Lein was still standing in the same spot.

His shirt collar was still in Arthur's grip. The middle-aged man's hand was still straining, his veins still bulging, every ounce of his strength still being poured into pulling a man who stood like a mountain.

But Lein didn't even turn his head.

His eyes dropped to Arthur's hand clutching his collar, then rose again to the man's face with an expression that couldn't be called angry. Couldn't even be called annoyed.

It was closer to: pity.

"Someone like you," Lein said quietly, "is trying to drag me out?"

He didn't brush Arthur's hand away. He didn't need to.

A faint smile appeared, one without any warmth in it.

"You'd need ten thousand years of hard training just to move me a single centimeter." His eyes didn't blink. "But honestly, that won't even be necessary. Because ten years from now, you'll already be dead."

Silence.

Arthur let go of the collar. Not because he wanted to, but because his hand suddenly didn't feel like his own anymore.

"Wh... what the fuck are you talking about, you bastard?!" The words came out, but his voice wasn't nearly as loud as before.

Lein glanced at him briefly. He looked at Arthur like a doctor reading an X-ray, not like someone in the middle of a fight.

"Your heart," he said. "There's enough plaque built up in your coronary arteries to start being a real concern. Your blood pressure's high, has been for a long time, but you've never had it checked because you feel fine." He paused for a moment. "Your liver's worse. It's already starting to harden in a few places. That's what you get from years of nonstop drinking, eating like garbage, never moving for more than ten minutes a day, and popping sedatives you clearly bought without a prescription."

No one spoke.

"You can't feel it right now. Maybe not yet. But your body's already starting to collect on all of it." Lein gave a light shrug. "Any doctor who actually gave you a thorough exam would tell you the same thing. Ten years is a generous estimate."

Arthur stepped back.

One step. Two steps.

His face was no longer red with anger. It was pale, and in his eyes was something Arthur Caldwell rarely ever had: doubt.

Wh... who the hell is this bastard?!

No one had ever told him this. No one could have said it in that much detail, because he'd never actually had a medical checkup.

But every word coming out of this man's mouth was something he'd known for a long time and refused to admit.

"Bullshit," he muttered. But his voice wasn't convincing, not even to himself.

On the other side of the room, Daniel couldn't hold back anymore.

His face was flushed, not from embarrassment, but from rage that had been boiling for far too long. His hands were clenched at his sides, nails digging into his palms.

This son of a bitch... how dare he sentence my father to death?!

He says my dad's going to die in ten years?!

Bullshit!

Daniel ground his teeth.

You motherfucker... you're the one who's dying first tonight!

Daniel took long strides toward Lein, shoving aside a few people in his way without a word of apology. His eyes were locked on a single target.

One punch. Just one punch.

He'd shut that bastard's mouth for good, and drag his corpse out of this house with his own two hands.

His fist rose.

And flew toward Lein's face with every bit of strength he had.

But with perfect reflexes, Lein simply tilted his head.

That was it. One small movement, barely visible, and Daniel's fist sliced through empty air with full momentum. Daniel stumbled forward a step, the force of his punch carrying him too far.

And in that moment, while Daniel's body was still pitched forward, Lein's left hand moved.

One strike.

Light. Casual. Like someone patting an old friend on the shoulder. Like there was no force behind it at all.

PAK.

It landed on Daniel's right shoulder.

That was all.

But it was enough to drop him.

He didn't stagger, didn't stumble back. He fell straight down like a puppet with all its strings cut at once, hit the marble floor with a heavy thud, and didn't move again.

Out cold.

The room froze.

No one screamed. No one moved. A dozen pairs of eyes stared at Daniel sprawled on the floor, then at Lein, who was still standing in the same spot with his left hand already back at his side, as if nothing had happened.

Lein looked down at Daniel.

"Pathetic." His voice was flat, emotionless, like he was commenting on the weather. "Bad reflexes, zero technique, and you attack with your anger instead of your head." He let out a quiet snort. "You can't even throw a single punch right."

Then a mocking expression crossed his face, and he delivered his final line. "Honestly, if Sera had already given the order, your right arm wouldn't be attached to your body right now."

"Sera."Tristan turned his head without lowering his raised hand. His voice went soft again, like someone coaxing a child away from a fire."Step back. This is the guy who wants to marry you, right?" His smile was thin. "Then please, don't get involved just yet. Let him prove he's worthy right here. If he really deserves to stand beside you, he'll make it through this."Sera opened her mouth. She wanted to say something. Maybe to refuse, maybe to warn him, but before a single word came out, her eyes met Lein's.He turned his head slightly toward her and smiled.A small, easy smile, like someone about to step out to grab some tea. His eyes said one thing very clearly: I'll be fine.Sera looked at him for a moment. Then nodded slowly. She stepped back a few paces, leaving plenty of space in the middle of the hall.Lein turned to face forward again. Ten huge men stood in a half circle in front of him, their shadows falling across the marble floor like a moving wall. He looked at them one

"You only see what's on the outside, Tristan."Sera's voice wasn't loud, but it was sharp enough to make the smile on Tristan's face slip a little."That's the only thing you ever see, and that's exactly why you'll never understand." Sera took a step to the side, standing shoulder to shoulder with Lein. "Lein is a good man. He promised to protect me. And I trust him."A moment of silence. Then Tristan laughed.Quietly at first, like someone trying to hold it in. But the longer it went on, the more it broke loose, until his shoulders were shaking and he had to press a palm to his chest to catch his breath."Protect you?" He wiped the corner of his eye with a fingertip. "*Him?*"His index finger rose, pointing at Lein without even looking."Sera, Sera, Sera. Listen to me." His tone softened again, full of fake patience. "I know the people from the other branches of the Caldwell family want your fortune. That's no secret. That's exactly why I'm here today, offering to protect you. The Ka

The front doors of the Caldwell estate were wide open. In the doorway stood a man whose presence seemed deliberately designed to fill the room. He was about 185 centimeters tall. His brown hair was slicked neatly back, not a single strand daring to stray out of place. Thin-framed glasses sat on his sharp nose, giving him a polished, intelligent look. The dark gray suit he wore wrapped his athletic build in a perfect cut, broad shoulders, slim waist, not a single wrinkle in sight. He was handsome. His smile was warm. His posture was upright and confident. In short, he looked like the kind of guy any mother would want to set her daughter up with. In his hands was a massive bouquet of white and pink roses, at least a hundred stems. Behind him stood five maids in matching, neatly pressed cream uniforms. Each one carried a velvet-wrapped gift box tied with a perfect gold ribbon. And behind those five, ten men in black suits stood in two rows. Shoulders as wide as doorways, necks as

"You don't need to cook anything," Sera said, throwing off her blanket. "Let's head downstairs. They've already made breakfast for us."Lein nodded. "Alright."They left the bedroom and went down the stairs to the ground floor. The corridors of the Caldwell estate were full of busy staff. Some were carrying laundry baskets, some were wiping down the stair railings, some were straightening vases in the corners of the hallway. All of them were working diligently. But not a single one of them greeted her.A young maid passed them at a corner. She just stepped aside, eyes fixed straight ahead, then went back to her work as if what had just walked by was nothing but a breeze. Two other maids near the living room door didn't even turn their heads. No respectful nods. No "good morning, Young Miss."Lein glanced at Sera. She walked with her back straight and her face blank, as if nothing about this was strange at all. She's not bothered, Lein thought. Or more accurately, she's too used to it

Sunlight poured in all at once. Wide and bright, it hit Sera square in the face without warning the moment the curtains were pulled aside. Sera scrunched her forehead, squeezing her eyes shut tighter before finally giving up and slowly opening them. It took a few seconds for her vision to adjust, for the shapes in the room to come into focus. The open window. Morning light slanting in. And Lein, standing there with his hand still on the curtain, looking at her with an expression that was not the least bit sorry. Sera let out a slow breath. Relief. Not because Lein was there, but because it meant everything that happened last night wasn't a dream. It was real. This man was real. And she wasn't alone anymore. But it also meant something else. Uncle Caden was really gone. Sera swallowed the feeling for a moment, let it linger, then tucked it away somewhere it wouldn't bother her until she was fully awake. "You were really out cold," Lein said, his tone light. "It's already six

Ten minutes later, the bathroom door opened.Sera turned from where she lay on the bed, half asleep, the TV remote still in her hand.Lein stood in the bathroom doorway, his hair still wet, and the only thing covering his body was a white towel wrapped low around his waist.Sera stared. And didn't stop staring right away.Because the body in front of her didn't exactly make it easy to look away.Lein's shoulders were broad but not overdone. His chest was wide and solid. His abs were cleanly defined, and not like a bodybuilder's, but like someone whose body hadn't been built in a gym, but by something far harsher than that. Not a single inch felt like too much or too little. Everything was exactly right, and perfect.Absolutely perfect.So... this guy had a body like that?Sera swallowed.Once. Silently. But it felt incredibly loud in her own throat. Her cheeks had been flushed since the very first second, and instead of getting better, they only got worse with every passing moment.Th
