Chapter Five

Jose Pelen was the richest man in the city not a single person could hold a candle next to him. It was impossible to possess even half of his wealth, every luxurious building around was owned by him. However with all his fortune the man was rather miserable. His first wife passed on shortly after delivering their daughter, his second wife met a similar fate leaving him with two daughters, Petra, his pride and Olivia, her father's nightmare.

Jose planned on passing his fortune to Petra but who would've known that she would suddenly lose her life in a car crash. Rather than make Olivia his heir, Jose would rather donate all his properties to charity. Beatrice Amell was the first woman he was supposed to marry, after a few months of being together, she fell pregnant and delivered a baby boy. Jose requested to have a DNA test done just to be safe, much to his dismay it came back negative.

Beatrice cried on her knees swearing on her mother's grave that she knew no other man and Jose was the father of her son. However, her pleas fell on deaf ears as he sent her packing and cut ties with her. Many years later, his best friend's daughter Irene who's a doctor let him know that the child could have been his, she asked him to bring a sample of the boy's DNA saying she could unravel the mystery. Jose immediately went combing through the city for Beatrice and her child but was unable to find them, as fate would have it the young man delivered himself to his doorstep.

Taking a good look at the man, Jose could tell that he was no doubt his son. Even his daughter's did not resemble him this much, he was an exact replica of how he looked back in the day. But in order to be fully convinced he needed solid proof.

"This is the man I told you about, the rest is up to you now." He said to Irene and she was more than happy to take on the task.

They headed for the hospital together, too impatient to settle back and wait for Irene to bring the test results. After a few hours of waiting Irene strolled off the lab in her doctor's coat holding a white sheet. She handed the paper to Jose who wasted no time in snatching it from her grip.

"It says that you are his uncle." Irene informed me.

"That makes no sense, I'm an only child." Jose argued.

"This was a hard case to crack, but I was able to get to the root of it. It turns out you had a twin who died in the womb. Instead of becoming a miscarriage you absorbed his DNA making him the father of this man, although he was never born."

Jose was too stunned and could only blink, is any of this even possible? He thought. it was too absurd to comprehend but the proof was standing right before his eyes.

"I'm sorry I ever doubted your mother." He said regrettably to Matthew. Looking at Matthew one could see how thin and frail he appeared. Who knows the kind of life he had been living out there. Jose was trapped in his guilt and could not even take a look at the boy, he promised to make up for his mistakes. Matthew grew up hating his father after hearing how he abandoned him and his mother but on discovering what happened he was forced to forgive and reconcile with man.

Diana had no news on Matthew as was beginning to grow impatient she could be seen pacing forth and back in her room biting on her nails, the door slammed open and Erica trailed in, "where is Matthew I've been trying to reach him all day to no avail what have you done to his mother?" She questioned. Diana had no time to listen to her daughter's rants pushing her aside, she stepped out of the room to go find the low life herself, taking with her the divorce papers.

In order to make him sign the agreement on the spot like she wanted Diana brought with her some thugs. If he refused to sign it she planned on beating him blue black until he gave in to her demands, she was tired of taking the easy way out she even took it upon herself to set him up however the man refused to show to the prosecution. What a really stubborn goat she thought, her first stop was his office. He had no place to stay and was probably crashing there.

Immediately Diana stepped out of her car she caught a glimpse of black hair that appeared to belong to Matthew. He was walking into the building with the two men by his side, their faces all covered from her. With a wave of her hand the thugs came running.

"Yes madam!" The head thug saluted. Diana pointed to the man in the middle and said, "make him sign the papers and if he still refuses to beat him until he does, as for the two men standing next to him if they choose to stand up for him you can do however you see fit."

He nodded and signalled for his men to follow him which they did while Diana leaned back on her car eager to watch the drama play out.

"Stop there." A voice boomed causing Matthew and the others to stop dead in their tracks, slowly they turned around and were met with the pack.

"Good day boss." The men immediately fell on their knees as they saw Jose.
