"How could you forget? Everything I did!" Blake's voice cut through the polite murmur of the restaurant, sharp with disbelief. He gestured wildly, the motion encompassing Rose and the impeccably dressed Elizabeth beside her. "Before... and even when I was in prison."
Rose crossed her arms in a slow, deliberate movement. She shifted her weight as a faint hiss escaped her lips; her gaze was fixed somewhere beyond his shoulder. She didn’t reply to Blake’s plea.
Elizabeth stepped forward, her smile tight. "Blake, please. Not here."
"Not here?" Blake scoffed, the sound harsh. "Where then, Elizabeth? In private? Like you prefer to keep things?"
"That's enough!" Elizabeth's voice rose, carrying just enough to draw more attention. She turned to the small crowd that had begun to gather, her expression shifting to one of practiced concern, then that of a righteous mother. "He's lying! Every single word is a lie!"
She swept a hand towards Blake. "This man... he did nothing for my daughter. Nothing for our family. He was a burden! A pest! Dragging her down with him!" Her voice gained momentum and started painting a vivid picture for the crowd.
"The universe itself intervened to save her from his deadly grip! He was jailed for fraud!" She paused, letting the word hang in the air. "And sent to Bang Kwang Central Prison in Thailand!"
A ripple went through the onlookers. Bang Kwang. The 'Bangkok Hilton.' Known for its harsh conditions.
"Seven years!" Elizabeth declared, her voice ringing with false triumph. "And now he's back, crawling out and claiming he sacrificed everything for us? Now that Rose has secured a multimillion-dollar contract with Chels Corp!" She leaned in, her voice dropping slightly but still audible. "And is about to marry the trillionaire CEO of Days Corp!"
A collective gasp, then murmurs. The performance was flawless. Rose, for a fleeting second, looked genuinely stunned by her mother's conviction. An Oscar-winning performance indeed. Heads turned towards Blake, eyes narrowing, whispers following.
“Liar.”
“What a terrible person.”
Blake stood rooted, the words washing over him. Seven years. Bang Kwang. Fraud. Everything. This was the reward. The payment. The betrayal tasted like ash. There was nothing to say. No defense to offer here now. Not against this carefully constructed lie, delivered with such perfect conviction.
Elizabeth leaned close, her smile gone, replaced by a chilling hardness. Her voice was a low hiss, meant only for him. "Stay away, Blake. From her. From us. Or you'll be back in prison. And this time for good."
She straightened herself, linking arms with Rose, who finally met his eyes, a flicker of something unreadable there before she turned away. They walked off, a picture of triumphant grace, towards their 'new future.'
Blake watched them go, the sounds of their footsteps fading into the restaurant's ambient noise. He drew a deep, shuddering breath, trying to push the suffocating weight off his chest. He turned and walked out, the cool evening air a slight relief against the heat of his anger and hurt.
He walked, the city lights a blur. He still felt the pangs of betrayal from the only family he had. He had been orphaned since he was five years old; he grew up in an orphanage, and at seventeen years old, he ventured out into the world to hustle in hopes of a better life. He did all kinds of menial jobs just to get by. Life was hard as he was all alone, that is, until he met Rose.
The two fell in love and started dating. At the time, he was working as a retailer, so he was making enough money to take care of himself, Rose, and even her family. It was during this time that he met someone who appreciated his efforts and gave him insider tips on some businesses to invest in.
Blake was always a guy ready to seize new opportunities, and so he poured his entire savings of almost a million dollars into these businesses with the hope of a multimillion-dollar return.
As months passed by, the investments seemed like they were going to die off, with almost all the stocks he bought being wiped clean of the stock market; this new venture was poised to ruin him. Just when he thought life couldn’t get worse, he got arrested for a crime he didn't commit and was sentenced to jail in Thailand.
A few months in prison, he was visited by the director of the bank he had invested through, Crescent Investment Bank. The man informed him that he was now worth a hundred billion dollars and was officially the richest man in the world, thanks to a surge in the stocks he bought. This shocked Blake, and he couldn’t contain his joy.
The first thing he wanted to do was to inform Rose and her family, but the director cautioned him against it, saying that if the news got out that he was rich, his life might be in danger here in prison. From there, Mr. Donald, the director of Crescent Investment Bank, kept communication with him and helped him invest his billions into building Days Corp.
Seven years later, Days Corp had grown so much as to become the most profitable company in the country, with a net worth of over $5 trillion. Blake had become a trillionaire from prison and the most powerful CEO/man in the country. With Donald and Gerald's help, he influenced politics and every other sphere in the country.
He was the mystery boogeyman, and some even considered him a myth since only a few knew his true identity. Blake had built a business, an empire worth trillions of dollars, from prison and was influencing political agendas and government policies from behind bars in Thailand.
If only Rose and her family knew what or whom they had just tossed away for some imaginary fantasy. If only they knew they were fighting the wrong person. If only they had been a little patient.
Back in the present day. Blake's gaze drifted across the street, landing on a cafe. Through the cafe window, he sees Chelsea. And a guy. They were sitting at a dinner table, and it looked like a date. But something felt wrong. The guy was leaning in way too close to Chelsea, and her posture was too stiff for someone on a date. Just then, Blake noticed a flicker of movement under the table.
Blake didn't hesitate. He crossed the street, pushing through the cafe door.
"Everything alright here?" He asked, his voice calm, cutting through the cafe's quiet hum.
Chelsea looks up in shock, surprised to see the same man she met earlier. Blake met her gaze as he could see the panic on her face.
The guy sitting across from Chelsea looked up as well, startled, then scowled. "Mind your own business, pal." His hand tightened under the table.
"I think this is my business," Blake said, stepping closer to Chelsea's table.
"Get lost!" The guy's voice was sharp. He pulled his hand from under the table. A gun. Small, but unmistakable. Panic erupted. People scrambled, chairs scraping back.
"Transfer it, transfer the 100 million dollars to my account right now," the guy snarled at Chelsea, then flicked his eyes at Blake. "Last chance, buddy. Walk away, now!"
"Not happening," Blake said, his eyes locked on the gun.
The robber charged, lifting the weapon and aiming it at Blake. Before he could even tighten his finger on the trigger, Blake moved. A blur. Hand shot out, gripping the gun, twisting. A sharp crack. The robber cried out.
“Ahhh, my arm!”
He dropped the weapon as Blake wrenched his arm, dislocating the shoulder. Blake followed through, a swift headbutt connecting with the robber's face. A gush of blood from his lips. He crumpled to the floor, groaning.
Silence, then a wave of relief. Security rushed in, converging on the downed robber. A moment later, applause erupted. Cheers.
Chelsea was on her feet, rushing towards him. She threw her arms around him, holding tight. "Oh my god, thank you so much!"
Black smiled, “It's nothing much. I just hope he didn’t hurt you.”
“He tried to, but he failed. Thanks to you.” She pulled back, her eyes wide. "A little bird told me... what happened with... with you and your girlfriend."
Blake was shocked by how she knew so fast, but he managed a small smile. "Yeah. A little bird told me a few things about you, too."
Chelsea searched his face. "So... are you open to my offer?"
He looked at her. Chelsea London. Chels Corp. A multimillion-dollar contract. Rose was gone. This? This was a much better option.
"Sure, why not?" Blake said.
A slow smile spread across Chelsea's face. "Good. Get ready, Blake. It's time to get your revenge."

He was about to put this arrogant ex-con in his place and earn some serious points with Ms. Rose and potentially Ms. Chelsea. But just then... his name was called. He turned, along with everyone else. Marching towards them, looking completely out of place amidst the glittering crowd, was his younger brother, Jonah, and a few of his equally rough-looking friends. Captain Dowell had pulled some strings to get them invitations, a chance for his street-level brother to see how the other half lived, and maybe boost his own standing by association. The guests were noticeably uncomfortable with the arrival of Jonah and his friends, as they were not elites like themselves. “Who the hell let these guys in? I thought this ceremony was only for the prestigious folks.” A lady in a red dress said while clutching her drink tight.“Those are the chief se
