Allen's eyes widened as she pushed the door open. It wasn't just beautiful, it was large and extremely comfortable like a suite.

“You…you mean this is my office?” He said, unable to believe what was in front of him. He rushed in, making himself comfortable on the chair. A card with his name was well–placed on the table—Allen Herondale(C.E.O).

“If you need anything sir, I’m just a call away,” Louisa said, stepping out. Allen almost forgot she was there.

As she left, his mind drifted back to her. It felt like his liking for her was growing by the minute. She was calm, helpful and kind to him even when everyone thought he was poor.

But then, the thoughts of the company swam in. If he had to be the president, there had to be new rules starting from today.

After chilling in his office for some hours, Allen was ready to retire for the day. While driving home, he sighted one of his favourite snacks at a street food joint but being rich wouldn't stop him from getting what he likes, would it?

“Stop the car, I need to get something across the street,” Allen said to Calloway, impatiently as his craving for it increased.

“Alright young master but be careful out there,” Calloway advised.

Allen nodded, rushing out of the car. Immediately he got to the food stand, he sighted a familiar car drive by and as expected the car came to a stop right in front of him. To his surprise, Katherine and Ryan stepped out, walking towards him with their hands locked.

“Well, well,” Katherine started. “If it isn't Allen, who would it be?” She said, throwing him a disgusting stare, followed by a giggle.

“I can see poverty is still rubbing off on you. Eating street food? Disgusting!”

Allen ignored them as he continued with his thing. “Little man, is this your new job?” Ryan mocked. “I could hire you in my company as a cleaner. It fits you better than this,” Ryan added and they both laughed.

“Don't tempt me, Ryan,” Allen warned, calmly. He didn't want it to escalate.

“You learned confidence huh. I guess the past few weeks have taught you a lesson,” Ryan said, staring fiercely at him.

“I told you he wouldn't amount to anything,” Katherine said slowly and they both laughed.

Allen's chest rose in anger. He tightened his fists, holding himself from doing anything.

“Katherine, can't you see Ryan is up to no good? You still have the chance to come back to me,” Allen told Katherine. Without a doubt, he still hoped they had a chance together.

“In your dreams Allen! Who do you think you are to tell me what to do?” Katherine screamed. “Our wedding is in two days and it will be the most glamorous—one you could only dream of but never have!”

“Katherine, tell me why you hate me this much!” Allen cried.

“Allen, it's too late. The least I could do is give you an invite,” Katherine added, with a disgusting stare. “The new heir of Silvercrest group would even be there. You don't even deserve to be in his presence!”

“The heir?” Allen muttered.

“But Kathe—

“Give up, little man. Your wife is mine now,” Ryan, who had been quiet, finally spoke.

Allen chest thumped. He tightened his fists, bit his tongue just to stop himself from causing a scene.

“Ugh Ryan baby. Let's get out of here. The smell of his poverty is already unbearable,” Katherine said, waving the air with her hands.

He watched them walk towards their car and leave. At that moment, his appetite died. He didn't want the food anymore so he stormed off angrily.

“Fuck!!!”

“I must teach Ryan a lesson he will never forget!”

“What happened back there, young master?” Calloway asked, when he shut the car door angrily.

“Prepare yourself Calloway, we will attend the wedding,” Allen said, angrily.

Without wasting much time they continued their journey home. When Allen got home, he decided to rest in his room when Calloway rushed in with an invite.

“An invite for you, directly from the couple.”

Allen collected the card from Calloway, reading its contents. “Mr Calloway, does the public know what I look like yet?”

“No, pictures of you haven't been released yet,” Calloway answered.

“Young master, do you plan on revealing yourself to them that day?” Calloway asked.

“Of course not. I want to remain unknown until it's the right time. In fact, prepare a mask for me,” Allen said. He wanted to be on a mask so he would attend the wedding without them knowing it was him.

Besides the mask, he also prepared clothes. He wanted to appear elegant and outstanding. He would never be the same Allen again!

Two days later—

It was the long awaited day, and the news stations wouldn't even stop talking about the most glamorous wedding in the city. Allen was fed up having to see Katherine’s pictures locked in with another man. But he had to let go and never look back.

He slipped on his expensive clothes and shoes. The black mask Calloway prepared was perfect. He slid it on, with a smile only showing behind the mask.

In no time, they were already on their way to the wedding. Getting there, Allen met a hall filled with people. As his name was announced and he walked up to the chair specially reserved for him, Allen couldn't help but feel on the top of the world.

The crowd murmured and cheers echoed. “I really want to know what he looks like,” someone said from the crowd.

“Why is he on a mask?” Another person asked.

“I bet he is not just rich but handsome.”

Allen beamed behind the mask. It was a great day to be alive. The wedding proceeded and the couple walked in as they were called. Allen's eyes locked on Ryan with disgust. All he could think about was making him pay. As for Katherine, she would definitely regret everything she did.

Michael slipped his phone out of his pocket as he dialed a familiar number. "I tried to ask him nicely but he refused. It's time for plan B," he spoke into the phone. He walked through the offices as he finally arrived at the one he was headed to. The words, Attorney Smith were boldly inscribed on the door. After he knocked on the door, a clear voice told him to come inside. As he flung the door open, an elderly man sat, writing seriously on some papers. "You asked to see me, Mr Herondale," the man started. "Concerning your grandmother's will." Michael nodded, then made his way to the nearest chair. "I really need to see the will. It's urgent." "Are you sure she gave permission for that?" the attorney asked to be sure. "Y...yes she did," Michael stammered. "I had even asked my adopted brother," he lied. The attorney looked at him through the upper part of his glasses for what seemed to be an eternity then walked into another room. Michael tiptoed quietly behind him wat

"As much as I want to spend it with you, I also know you didn't hurt Madam," Jose blurted, quickening his steps, a discerning look on his face. "No one would believe me now. Allen has already made up his mind," Olivia responded, the wine tasting bitter in her mouth even though it was made with grapes and other sweet things. "Running would mean I'm guilty so I can't do that either." Jose stared at the floor for what seemed like an eternity, then back at Olivia who looked like she had already given up. "Then fight! Prove that you're innocent. I'll help you, I promise," Jose said staring at her pitifully. Olivia couldn't even look at Jose. Guilt overwhelmed her. Even after how bad she had treated him in the past, he still wanted to help her? "I can't receive help from you. I don't deserve it, really," Olivia muttered. Before Jose could respond, policemen barged through the doors with Tony trailing helplessly behind them. "There was nothing I could do ma'am," he spoke, pantin

With tear-filled eyes, Olivia watched Allen storm out angrily. The tears rolled down her cheeks vigorously. "Miss Olivia, this would be all for today. You're free to go home," the officer's voice rang in her ears. "But, it's not over yet. If there's strong evidence, you'll be charged." She looked at the officer, nodded her head then stormed out, hoping she still had a chance to make Allen forgive her. The minute she stepped outside the building, she saw Allen's car at a distance. He was gone. Her knees weakened as she got lost in her thoughts. She was still sobbing when Michael's voice shot through the air. "I'd say instead of crying over a man, use your freedom well because you'll be behind bars soon," Michael said with a laugh. Olivia's eyes burned with rage. The tears immediately dried up. "What did you do?" she blurted, slamming her hands on his chest. "Do you really want to ruin my life?" Michael said nothing, only releasing annoying laughs that fueled her anger.

  • CHAPTER 37: Olivia's Arrest

Olivia sat in Hayfield manor, eating lunch while trying to fix some office work. She had planned to visit the hospital again, to see Madam Ophelia. "Ma'am, someone's out here making a fuss. He came with the police," Tony said, barging in. Olivia quickly dropped what she was doing, her eyes red with fury as they bored into Tony. "Police? For what? You're disturbing me, Tony. Papa is in Germany. The work is on me. Let me work!" "But ma'am, I'm not kidding," Tony said again. Olivia sheepishly yanked the curtain open to have a peek at what was happening outside. Tony wasn't wrong. About five policemen had established themselves outside. But wait, she saw a familiar face. No way! "Fucking H Michael!" She muttered. She had known Michael as a child. In fact, they used to be friends until she rejected his love proposal. Had he come for revenge or what? She remembered that day, under the shimmering lights of the Herondale manor. She had gone to visit Madam Ophelia as usua

  • CHAPTER 36: Poison

Allen had just dropped Olivia home. They waited for the doctor's report the whole day but were told it would be ready the next morning. He reached the Herondale manor in no time and as he entered the first person his gaze landed on was Michael. Not wanting to strike up a conversation, Allen greeted and walked past him. "Just like that? Brother?" Michael blurted out. "Come on, that's too formal." Allen scoffed. "You were the one trying to fight me some days back but here you are today wanting formalities," Allen responded. "Spare me the crap!" "Oh, that's what this is about," Michael said with a smile. "Well, I heard about the doctor's reports," he added. "Did they mention what type of substances?" Allen paused, his feet suddenly glued to the ground. "You didn't come to the hospital today. You didn't even ask about Grandma but all you care about is what kind of substance!" Allen raged. That seemed to be the only thing Michael cared about. "Chill, man," Michael spoke. "

  • CHAPTER 35: Black-eyed Katherine

His heartbeat quickened. "What did you say happened to Grandma?" Allen asked again, to be sure he heard well. "The doctor requested to see you. It seems he discovered something," Calloway informed him, calmly this time. Allen sighed. Morning didn't come fast. He needed answers about her condition. "What about Michael. Have you noticed anything suspicious?" Allen asked, his breathing rough."I haven't noticed anything. He's barely at home," Calloway explained. After their conversation, Allen made his way to his room. His mind wasn't at peace. He tried to sleep but he just couldn't shake the thoughts off. Soon, it was morning. He hurriedly made his way to the hospital. He stood outside the ward, staring at his grandma through the glass door. "Eh-ehm," a throat cleared behind him. He turned to see the doctor behind him. Immediately, his breathing slowed. "I heard you asked to see me, Doctor," Allen finally spoke. The doctor let out a deep sigh. "Yes I did. We've discovered somet
