"Dave, come on, just one step," Hei Yu urged as she tried to encourage Dave, who ran with gritted teeth.

Filled with guilt as she watched him, Hei Yu fired freely at the incoming horde of wolves chasing behind them. For the first time, she saw exactly to what lengths Dave was willing to go to protect, and it made her feel fatigued and guilty at the same time.

They had just come out of the woods and were now well past Dave's childhood home. It would only be a few minutes to the open field where the Plane could land. But all of a sudden, before them appeared a creature unlike any they had seen until now.

Sporting the usual red eyes of all mutant beasts, this creature had the physique of a man except for the jagged spikes all over its naked black skin. It seemed like it had just walked out of a fire after having been burnt to a crisp in it. Holding a large sword, it stood on their path silently watching as they approached, behind it, a pack of wolves chased.

About fifteen feet away from this new strange creature, Dave and Hei Yu stopped and glanced behind, where the wolves stopped too.

It wasn't that they were too afraid to approach; they did not seem to care for the man, but we're very cautious about Hei Yu. While mutation did nothing to change their animal and hunting instinct, it seemed to instill in them a strong desire to feed and live.

And knowing Hei Yu could kill some of them, caused them to hesitate, but they needed to feed, so they also would not leave.

"Can you hold off the wolves?" Dave asked suddenly, and Hei Yu turned sharply to him.

"No!" she replied incredulously. This wasn't the time to fight, and he was in no shape to engage that creature before them.

Something about its stance and sinister gaze gave her a chilling feeling.

"Hei Yu, we cannot escape this time, that thing is sentient." Dave shook his head, keeping his gaze trained on the figure with the broadsword.

"How can you tell?" Hei Yu asked, her voice lowered.

"Its stance and amused grin are a giveaway, don't you think?" Dave replied, and Hei Yu finally settled to observe this strange creature.

Two horns jutted out of its blackened face, red at their tips as if still burning from some intense heat.

"That's a demon!" Hei Yu exclaimed all of a sudden, earning a displeased glance from Dave.

"You think something so ugly can be a master of temptation?" he asked, sneering.

As if offended by Dave's words, the creature grunted and tightened its grip on the broadsword as it adjusted its stance.

"It really is sentient," Hei Yu muttered.

"Take care of the wolves, don't try to push them back, go for the kill." Dave urged, and before Hei Yu could ask why, he rushed towards the Demon, a buzzing blue spear materializing in his hand.

Dave ran, ignoring the crippling pain in his leg. Halfway through, he twirled the spear to his left side and performed a sweep as he made to run past the Demon.

But this strange creature would not simply stand there and wait for death. It smiled, its white teeth almost blinding Dave in bafflement as it raised the broadsword before itself in a block.

The sword and spear connected, and Dave's eyes widened in shock.

His spear was not material, it could not make physical contact with anything material. It was merely a manifestation of a disturbed region of space that only he could touch. At contact with any material object, it would tear the very fabrics of space through the object, effectively tearing said object in two regardless of its toughness.

Yet, this broadsword could touch his spear as if it were material.

"Surprised?" the creature spoke, sending more shock through Dave as their weapons pushed against each other in a tug of war.

Standing across from each other and staring sideways at the other, they exchanged glances.

"What you control is a fundamental natural principle that is present in every region of reality. Many can do what you can, but you have found a way to do it with such intensity that you manipulate reality itself at almost no cost. You are an anomaly, and must not exist," the figure spoke some more, its voice deep like a growl but also smooth and soothing like the voice of a male opera singer without any inflections in tone.

"What are you?" Dave asked hesitantly as he formed a whirlpool of space in front of his face to shield himself from the ash coming out of the Demon's lips as it spoke. He had no idea if it was poisonous.

"Edmond is my name, and I am an Apostle of Entropy."

Dave squinted in confusion.

"Edmond," he called in a serious tone.

"Your breath stinks," he smiled, and his spear vanished, sending both of them past each other as inertia acted on their forms.

But Dave covered himself in a bubble of space and spun around against inertia, sending a Spatial Blade at Edmond's back. Then he teleported to his front and materialized a shield, holding it in front of Edmond to bash it into him.

All of a sudden, there was a sharp blink, and then a burst of enormous energy folding and twisting space itself, and it rushed forward to swallow everything around it.

Dave immediately teleported to Hei Yu, who was entangled with furious wolves, and touching her, they both vanished into the small dimension he had carved out of space earlier in the bunker.

They didn't stay long, though. Following Hei Yu's calculations, they appeared back on the path, the wolves now only dried husks of themselves, and right in the epicenter of this heatwave was Edmond the Demon.

"Neat trick," Dave sneered at the creature who stared at him with a frown.

"Where did you go?" the creature asked, feeling a rush of confusion.

"Somewhere you cannot exist," Dave replied, although he knew he was bullshiting. While he was not a stellar student in school, he was very well aware that entropy occurred everywhere, especially in outer and chaotic space.

"Since my inception, I have never been outplayed. I will find you again, and you will die."

Dave was sent to the infirmary where a makeshift sterilized room was prepared for him. Here, he finally saw why these soldiers could fortify the mall so much, they had an awakened. "So you just know how to craft things?" Dave asked curiously. He knew how his system worked, but Hei Yu confused him; she displayed inhuman dexterity, especially with her hands, despite having a precision system. It seemed more like she awakened as a gunslinger. His spatial ability has so far only given him the ability to manipulate space; all he knew about space were things he studied previously because of his obsession. If he learned the wrong thing and tried to use that inaccurate knowledge to manipulate space, it wouldn't work. For example, he learned that if he could look beyond the earth's curvature, he could see ahead of the present time and that by freezing space, he could manipulate time. Since he gained his ability, he had tried many times, but space seemed to have nothing to do with time.

  • Chapter 30 - Shooting Her Shot

The group safely returned to the mall where they met once again with Major Mallorie. "Trying out a new look?" she asked at the sight of Dave covered in a bathrobe. "Got my skin shaved off me" he shrugged. Major Mallorie smiled in reply, not taking his claim seriously. "They must be the ones you came for. I'm glad you could get them alright" she noticed Jessie and Ruth. "Yes, my sisters Jessie and Ruth" Dave introduced, the girls each nodding at the mention of their names. "Great." the Major clasped her hands and then glanced over her shoulder. "This way, please let's talk business. You three make yourselves comfortable, we won't take long. Over there, you can get a hot meal." She pointed in a direction and then motioned for Dave to walk with her. "I discussed with your Agent, Miss Celine, and learned a little about your. . ." she paused, finally noticing Dave wasn't walking. She looked him over, first at his hovering feet and then up at his face with her brows raise

  • Chapter 29 - Interlude

"What are you doing?" Dave asked when he woke up strapped to Hei Yu's back. Not only was she carrying him, but she also had her rifle in hand, his over her neck. It was as if she felt he wasn't heavy enough. "Put me down" he groaned. He felt snug in the robe they wrapped him in but, at the same time, a little trapped. "Your skin is gone," Hei Yu replied and slowed down to a brisk walk. She glanced over her shoulder, but her face immediately met Dave's, and her cheeks reddened as she snapped her head forward again. "I know, put me down" Dave insisted. A rifle isn't as weightless as movies would have people believe not to mention the other pistols and ammunitions Hei Yu had strapped on her. She relented and stopped before releasing Dave from her back. "Dave" a gentle voice called as soon as he was free and standing on his feet. He turned to see Jessie and Ruth standing together and a smile appeared on his lips. "Playing a game?" He teased causing Jessie to roll her eyes whil

  • Chapter 28 - Immaterial Universe

"You seem baffled." Dom paused and tilted his head at Dave, who had teleported across the office to the other side. Indeed, Dave was baffled. For the first time, he found himself fighting a battle he knew he could not win. The only thing keeping him from losing and losing his life too was the thin spatial shield he had long learned to keep around his frail body after the car-plane incident. At this moment, he had to admit that he had no idea what to do next. He couldn't keep fighting, that was for sure; there was no way to win against Dom. "We can't stop now. At first, I wanted the girls, but now I want you." Dom smiled, his index finger pointing right at Dave. He strolled slowly to the middle of the room, spun the office chair around, and took a sit. Despite the high intensity of their battle, nothing in the room was actually damaged. "You see after I figured out how to fix my imperfection with my lighting, I thought I had reached the peak of power and found the best path t

  • Chapter 27 - Battle

"How do you know my name?" Gisele asked, temporarily ignoring the eerie similarity between the two girls. "I-" Ruth was just about to reply when she noticed Gisele's eyes widen and her mouth drop open. Before she could respond, there was a sudden tingle in the air and she could feel all her fine skin hairs stand on end. Sensing what was about to happen, she closed her eyes in acceptance, but in the next moment, a stunning scene took place before their very eyes. Space froze! It was only for a split second, but the experience could neither be missed nor forgotten. The twins exchanged glances and through each other's eyes, they saw that singular thought... 'Dave found us' Sure enough, at turning around, they saw Dave standing with a red-haired woman beside him, and ahead of them was Dom floating in the air with streaks of lightning lol over his body. From a very young age, Dave had been obsessed with space and its workings. From studying physics, a subject he hated to explo

  • Chapter 26 - Building Block D

Building Block D was just as described. The closer they got to it, the more humans they saw. Some people walked cautiously by the side of buildings, trying to keep low and not be ambushed by zombies, while others walked briskly in groups, rifle in hand. Occasionally, they would see sentries on rooftops with long guns as they kept watch. "They're trying to set up a resistance post" Hei Yu observed as she noticed the people transporting ammunitions between buildings. "How do we find them?" she asked. "I guess we can only ask around" Dave shrugged. He took out the phone Celine had given him and searched for his Instagram Page, where he found a picture of his sisters. "Hey," he called out to a group of people hurrying by. Startled, two from among them raised their rifles but held their finger on the trigger.Hei Yu released her rifle and let it hang over her shoulder as she raised her hands. If anything went wrong, she was confident she could draw and fire before they could even cli
