“We have to refuel every eight hours, and right now, we can't tell what airports are safe to land in or which are overrun.” Mr Celeste explained.

Just then, a figure stepped up to them.

“This is Alisha, our Pilot and Chief Engineer” Mr Celeste gestured and introduced, turning sideways to allow room for the newcomer

Alisha stepped forward in a red uniform with gold and yellow stripes, she reached out a hand to Celine.

“Hello,” she greeted as Celine shook her hand uncertainly.

“I think there is a way to solve our refueling issue, we are working on it now and I'll let you know when I have more reliable information”

Alisha had auburn-colored eyes, and she stood with a type of confidence that attracted Dave's attention.

Stealing a glance at Dave, Celine frowned and her gaze at Alisha turned colder.

“You promised me a ride for taking you to the airport. Can I trust your word?” Dave asked at this time, his mind still mostly fixed on his parents.

Celine glanced at Mr Celeste, who wore a displeased expression, then turned her gaze back to Dave.

“Yes, where to?” She asked.

“Can I get a map?” Dave requested, and Alisha produced a tablet that displayed a map on it.

“Here” she offered.

“Thanks” Dave smiled at her while Celine's brows creased again.

It took a moment for Dave to find his parent's farm on the map which he quickly pointed at and showed to Alisha.

“There's a large stretch of land here that we've been in dispute with the government for. Should be enough runway to land, can you drop me off here?” He asked glancing between Alisha and Celine.

Celine noticed the attention of the others on her and she nodded.

Taking back the tablet, Alisha turned and walked away without a word while Celine gestured subtly for Mr Celeste to leave.

Dave's mind wandered as he thought about his parents and their struggle with the Town Office. He stared blankly as scenes of his childhood flashed through his mind.

“Are you okay?” Celine asked.

Dave raised his brows and turned to her, smiling gently he nodded.

He found Celine to be more sensible compared to her friends. She was quite mature for her age.

“So… tell me something interesting” Celine shrugged, her gaze roving through his body as she smiled flirtatiously.

Dave frowned for a moment confused at her sudden interest in him.

After a few seconds of silence, he took in Celine's flirtatious smile and his eyes widened.

“Nope,” he shrugged and turned around.

As he walked away, Celine stood watching him with a smug smile on her lips.

Slowly, his feet came to a stop.

He turned around and shrugged defeatedly, “Where's my room?” he asked.

“Come, I'll show you”

It took some effort to convince Celine to leave him, but eventually, Dave found himself alone in a small room. Given that it was on a jet, the size of the room was impressive.

While there wasn't much space and the bed was quite tiny, Dave felt comfortable there. The sheets were clean at least.

“Money sure does make life more convenient” he muttered to himself.

Sighing, he sat on the bed and shook his head. The plane could not fly forever, even if it could, they would need to feed somehow.

The world down there was in chaos, but all hope was not lost yet. It was, for now, just zombies.

As soon as his thoughts got here, his heart skipped a beat.

What about the monsters that seemingly attacked the shelters of those elites? Given that they had expected this cataclysmic event and prepared for it, to lose Shelters to Monsters could only mean that things were worse than they had predicted.

He was, of course, resentful that they hadn't even tried to resist and had instead thought only of saving their own skins.

“Only my strength can assure the safety of my family” he muttered to himself in a low voice.

But his mind soon traveled; what if he gathered his family together? What then?

For the next few minutes, his thoughts raced with worries and concerns about the future, and for a moment, he even worried he would not get to his sister's in time.

Although hearing his parents spoke with them gave him some relief, he still hadn't talked with them himself.

Reaching into his pocket, he produced a shining blue orb with a tint of red even more intense than the one he got from Greyson.

[Discovered Level 3 Zombie Crystal, Absorb?]

Level 3?

Dave's eyes widened, and his heart picked up pace. No wonder it fought so fiercely and skillfully. There really were higher ranks.

Suppressing his worries, he concentrated on the crystal and felt a rush of energy as the system absorbed it.

[Storage Space +10 Cubic Meters]

[+5 SP]

“That's just unfair!” Dave exclaimed involuntarily at the numbers.

Why were the skill points still consistent?

“Status”

[Name: David Sawyer]

[Species: Hybrid]

[Status: Awakened]

[Level: 2 (Exp: 130/200 ]

[Rank: - ]

[Health: 100/100]

[Stamina: 100/100(evolving. . .)]

[Strength: 28 ]

[Endurance: 24 ]

[Dexterity: 39]

[Speed: 11 ]

[Available Stat Points: 5]

[Abilities: Spatial Manipulation]

[Skills: Spatial Blades Lvl 1(0/20) , Storage space(23 cubic meters)]

Knowing he would be in a fight soon, Dave willed the skill points to speed, his only lacking stats.

Reflecting on his last fight about it, this was probably the reason that Level 3 Zombie was faster than him.

Suddenly there was a knock on his door and he pushed a button on the wall. The door slid open revealing Hei Yu.

“We're descending” she announced.

Dave nodded expressionlessly but noticed Hei Yu still standing there.

“Where will you take your parents?” She asked.

She was in the car with him when he made the call so she knew where he was headed.

“I don't know. I also need to get to my sisters, but they're over 300 miles away,” Dave replied, shaking his head sideways.

He wasn't sure how he would manage but he knew he wanted to stay with his family.

“I'll come with you, we can bring them back here” Hei Yu suggested, her tone revealing some hesitance but mostly imploration.

Dave looked up at her in surprise and Hei Yu hurriedly avoided his gaze.

“My husband can't move so he has to stay on the plane. I don't want to leave the plane but I also think staying around you is the safest option. I know this is very selfish, but bringing your parents here is the safest option for you, too. And maybe if you ask Celine, she can take you to your sister's as well.” Tucking a strand of her red hair behind her ear, she explained, her tone shaky as she looked into space beside Dave as if he wasn't there.

When she finished, her gaze courageously met his but on finding him staring right at her, she quickly looked down.

Sighing, Dave considered for a while before looking back up at Hei Yu.

“The plane is already at full capacity, and I can't ask that of Celine; we didn't do much for them anyway.”

Suddenly, Celine's bubbly voice was heard from the side. “I think this is the part where I step in.”

Hei Yu’s eyes widened and her tone turned sharp. “Have you been standing there this entire time?”

“Nope, came to tell you that we touched down” Celine replied, a collected smile on her face.

Seeing that smile that made it seem as if she won something, Hei Yu felt a strong urge to strike the girl's face.

Celine walked to the door and stood facing Dave in the room.

“You can bring your family on the plane. Alisha figured out a way to steal fuel from the government refuel stations in the atmosphere. We still need to figure out what to do now. The world isn't shit yet”

“Are you sure about that?” Dave asked, his eyes squinting as lines formed on his forehead.

“Well, considering I just lost my Dad and all of my family in that Shelter, and whatever wealth I have left is dwindling in value by the second, I think I am,” Celine nodded, giving Dave a wide-eyed side nod.

Dave's lips opened and shut almost immediately, he turned to Hei Yu for a moment as if to confirm what he just heard.

Hei Yu opened her lips to offer some comfort, but the words just would not come out; all she could do was sigh as her face fell.

“Don't be so glum, just go get your parents as soon as you can, hurry back and let's get back up in the air where it's safe” Celine quickly attempted to recover the mood.

“Come I'll get you a phone so you can keep us updated”

Dave was sent to the infirmary where a makeshift sterilized room was prepared for him. Here, he finally saw why these soldiers could fortify the mall so much, they had an awakened. "So you just know how to craft things?" Dave asked curiously. He knew how his system worked, but Hei Yu confused him; she displayed inhuman dexterity, especially with her hands, despite having a precision system. It seemed more like she awakened as a gunslinger. His spatial ability has so far only given him the ability to manipulate space; all he knew about space were things he studied previously because of his obsession. If he learned the wrong thing and tried to use that inaccurate knowledge to manipulate space, it wouldn't work. For example, he learned that if he could look beyond the earth's curvature, he could see ahead of the present time and that by freezing space, he could manipulate time. Since he gained his ability, he had tried many times, but space seemed to have nothing to do with time.

The group safely returned to the mall where they met once again with Major Mallorie. "Trying out a new look?" she asked at the sight of Dave covered in a bathrobe. "Got my skin shaved off me" he shrugged. Major Mallorie smiled in reply, not taking his claim seriously. "They must be the ones you came for. I'm glad you could get them alright" she noticed Jessie and Ruth. "Yes, my sisters Jessie and Ruth" Dave introduced, the girls each nodding at the mention of their names. "Great." the Major clasped her hands and then glanced over her shoulder. "This way, please let's talk business. You three make yourselves comfortable, we won't take long. Over there, you can get a hot meal." She pointed in a direction and then motioned for Dave to walk with her. "I discussed with your Agent, Miss Celine, and learned a little about your. . ." she paused, finally noticing Dave wasn't walking. She looked him over, first at his hovering feet and then up at his face with her brows raise

"What are you doing?" Dave asked when he woke up strapped to Hei Yu's back. Not only was she carrying him, but she also had her rifle in hand, his over her neck. It was as if she felt he wasn't heavy enough. "Put me down" he groaned. He felt snug in the robe they wrapped him in but, at the same time, a little trapped. "Your skin is gone," Hei Yu replied and slowed down to a brisk walk. She glanced over her shoulder, but her face immediately met Dave's, and her cheeks reddened as she snapped her head forward again. "I know, put me down" Dave insisted. A rifle isn't as weightless as movies would have people believe not to mention the other pistols and ammunitions Hei Yu had strapped on her. She relented and stopped before releasing Dave from her back. "Dave" a gentle voice called as soon as he was free and standing on his feet. He turned to see Jessie and Ruth standing together and a smile appeared on his lips. "Playing a game?" He teased causing Jessie to roll her eyes whil

  • Chapter 28 - Immaterial Universe

"You seem baffled." Dom paused and tilted his head at Dave, who had teleported across the office to the other side. Indeed, Dave was baffled. For the first time, he found himself fighting a battle he knew he could not win. The only thing keeping him from losing and losing his life too was the thin spatial shield he had long learned to keep around his frail body after the car-plane incident. At this moment, he had to admit that he had no idea what to do next. He couldn't keep fighting, that was for sure; there was no way to win against Dom. "We can't stop now. At first, I wanted the girls, but now I want you." Dom smiled, his index finger pointing right at Dave. He strolled slowly to the middle of the room, spun the office chair around, and took a sit. Despite the high intensity of their battle, nothing in the room was actually damaged. "You see after I figured out how to fix my imperfection with my lighting, I thought I had reached the peak of power and found the best path t

"How do you know my name?" Gisele asked, temporarily ignoring the eerie similarity between the two girls. "I-" Ruth was just about to reply when she noticed Gisele's eyes widen and her mouth drop open. Before she could respond, there was a sudden tingle in the air and she could feel all her fine skin hairs stand on end. Sensing what was about to happen, she closed her eyes in acceptance, but in the next moment, a stunning scene took place before their very eyes. Space froze! It was only for a split second, but the experience could neither be missed nor forgotten. The twins exchanged glances and through each other's eyes, they saw that singular thought... 'Dave found us' Sure enough, at turning around, they saw Dave standing with a red-haired woman beside him, and ahead of them was Dom floating in the air with streaks of lightning lol over his body. From a very young age, Dave had been obsessed with space and its workings. From studying physics, a subject he hated to explo

  • Chapter 26 - Building Block D

Building Block D was just as described. The closer they got to it, the more humans they saw. Some people walked cautiously by the side of buildings, trying to keep low and not be ambushed by zombies, while others walked briskly in groups, rifle in hand. Occasionally, they would see sentries on rooftops with long guns as they kept watch. "They're trying to set up a resistance post" Hei Yu observed as she noticed the people transporting ammunitions between buildings. "How do we find them?" she asked. "I guess we can only ask around" Dave shrugged. He took out the phone Celine had given him and searched for his Instagram Page, where he found a picture of his sisters. "Hey," he called out to a group of people hurrying by. Startled, two from among them raised their rifles but held their finger on the trigger.Hei Yu released her rifle and let it hang over her shoulder as she raised her hands. If anything went wrong, she was confident she could draw and fire before they could even cli
