“On a six months suspension after the heartbreak and bullying?” Rex groaned and dimmed his gaze in the void. He walked to Ethan and patted his shoulders, “I am sorry for the inhuman treatment and dishonor you have suffered all these years by misplaced identity.”
Ethan forced a smile, and tossed his head as the last event of tragedy replayed in his mind. Two names still stood in his mind, Jack and Ella.
“That school is still indebted to me,” Rex revealed, “Yeah, after what I did for them they owe you absolute loyalty. The school is still on mortgage in our bank. I loaned them ninety percent of the funds used in building it and they are still indebted to us.”
“Really?” Ethan wondered.
The news that had always made the round was that jacks’; father sponsored the school in their building project. Right now the cat was out of the basket and he knew who was the real money bag behind the school project.
“Father, can you please, explain more to me,” he demanded.
“Nathan, CEO Nathan Group, borrowed ninety percent of the funds he spent on sponsoring the school form our bank, and till now he and the school are yet to pay up. They are indebted to us.”
Ethan raised a thick brow.
Rex told him there was need to host a board meeting where he could get to see the board of members and get acquainted with them and the business in the bank. In the days ahead, Rex hosted a board meeting in the bank and took Ethan along.
Once they got in, all the staffers bowed and greeted them; even Ethan could recall a few staff that greeted them repeatedly. The reverence made him have the feeling of a demigod. He couldn’t believe the fate that was playing right now.
“God! Is this me?” he often asked inwardly as they took a grand tour of the bank.
The board meeting was brief and educating and Rex introduced Ethan as his heir and incumbent CEO. The boards were flabbergasted to see his son finally after all these years of loneliness and childlessness.
Most of them that thought he was childless changed their perception of him and even most couldn’t believe Ethan was his son.
He told them, “Whatever respect you would accord me I want you to accord Ethan Arthur. He is an intelligent young man and I can assure you his leadership will be greater than mine.”
They gave a standing and clapping ovation as Ethan took the stage and gave an opening remark in appreciation of Rex and his rise from misplaced identity. He indulged their expertise and cooperation as he ensured the swift running of the bank.
The days ahead, Ethan focused on mastering the business of his father. Since he was on a six months suspension, it would be time to master the secret and ethics of banking which Rex often showed him.
Then one day while reviewing documents of debtors in his office, he came across some names that struck his mind. First was Mr. Nathan Junior, of Nathan Group, which was hugely indebted to their bank.
“Nathan Junior,” he called and dimmed his eyes, before clicking his fingers; that name struck recognition in him as he thought about it. “Jack father’s company.” He retorted and cast a strolling glance at their debt. “Three billion dollars?” he gaped and rubbed his eyes. “So aside the school funding, Nathan Group owes us too.”
He looked further into the documents and saw another name that left him standing right now. Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Tony. “Maxwell Tony?”
Right now he wasn’t sure of the name until he reached out for their details on the system and realized that they were Ella’s parents. They were still on a mortgage of two hundred million dollars and a health loan of ten million dollars.
A mocking laughter left his breath as he cast a striking stare at the details and tossed his head in fury.

Ella was ready for school but before leaving he met her parents in the dining. Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell were already expecting her to join them.
“Oh dad I am already late for school and I don’t want Jack to come around and still meet me unprepared.”
Her parents gave an alluring deep smile and told her to have a seat. “What do you have to tell me, dad?” she asked and widened her gaze at them.
“Your mom told me something yesterday,” Maxwell said, “how come you got engaged to Jack and you dint let us know. You kept it secret. Why did you do that, dear? You know how much we have been expecting this thing to happen.”
She chuckled and hugged, “Oh dad, it is just a friendship engagement I know what you are thinking but it is not yet time for marital engagement. I know you can’t wait to see me get married.”
Her mother clicked her finger, “Steady and slow my dear,” she laughed, “Soon the next engagement will be marriage. I see it in his eyes whenever he comes around. Jack’s adores you so much. Don’t ever toil with his heart, especially because of that poverty-stricken Ethan.”
Maxwell raised a thick brow, “Yeah that reminds me. How is that boy? He has been a pest to you, sucking your purse dry all in the name of friendship. How is the pauper now? How did he feel about the heartbreak?”
She stroked her hair. “Does he have a choice, dad?” Ella sighed, “I am sick and tired of his low life. Although he felt bad but he had no choice. Haven’t I tried? It is either he is borrowing this or borrowing that from me. Till now he still owes me two thousand dollars, can you imagine dad.”“Oh let him die with it,” Mrs Maxwell snapped, “He is a scumbag and a gold digger that canner make it in life. He is just a hungry rat!”
They burst into a huge laugh.
“Yeah that reminds me, mom,” Ella cut in and silence hung over them, “Jack will be officially introducing me to his parents in a few days.”
“Wow!” they exclaimed at once. “That will be great, dear,” Maxwell sounded, his smile kept.
“It is indeed an honor to meet Nathan of the rich and affluent Nathan Group,” Mrs. Maxwell intoned, “Can’t you see we are fortunate, darling?”
Just then a car hooted a horn outside and Ella rose towards the window. “Jack is here, mom. I got to go.”
Once she rushed out to join him in the car, her parents stood at the widow peering through and smiling from cheek to cheek.
“We will never miss this opportunity, the Nathan family? They are great and mighty. I guess they will help us to pay off our mortgage and health debt in the Arthur bank,” Maxwell said and his wife smiled at him and placed her head on his shoulders.
“I just wish so,” she mumbled.
