Were zombies really coming?

Everyone was completely shocked as turned their eyes towards downstairs. They saw many swaying black shadows appearing outside the barbed wire used to isolate the danger.

These dark shadows were all dressed in rags, with dark green faces, skinny bodies, and terrifyingly ferocious looks.

Following the trend of the spreading fog, they approached the barbed barricades, step by step. Some had already reached the edge of the barbed wire, stretching out their rotten claws and scratching at the wire aimlessly. What's worse, some even opened their big mouths and started gnawing on the metal wire on the isolation net.

The thick fog was slowly approaching the warehouse, and the number of zombies hiding in the fog was also slowly increasing.

At first, there were only two or three, but gradually, the number began to grow to ten, fifteen, twenty...

"Damn it, why did so many zombies appear here all of a sudden!"

"Could it be that what Ryan said is true?"

Looking at the zombies in the depths of the fog and still approaching the isolation net, the faces of the people present changed again.

The apocalypse had lasted for so long that they had of course encountered zombies many times. In fact, almost everyone in the entire gathering point had experience fighting the undead before, but the appearance of so many zombies at once was extremely rare, and the atmosphere instantly became tense.

"There are many..." Now, even Wallace's expression changed, and he subconsciously glanced at Ryan who had no time to pay attention to him.

At this time, Ryan had already found a suitable vantage point and was also silently staring at the zombies that continued to pour in downstairs.

These damn creatures that walked crookedly and seem to have no offensive power were the biggest challenge facing humanity after the apocalypse.

Every zombie that perceived the human scent would become extremely crazy in an instant, and there were so many human survivors in the gathering point. With so much human scents concentrated in the air, it was likely that the bloodthirsty genes in the bodies of these zombies had already been ignited.

The zombies were continuously gathering, and their movements were getting faster and faster.

More than twenty undead came to the isolation net together. They stretched out their rotten claw-like hands, and shook the protective fence, while making growling roars.

Before long, the guardrails began to shake wildly because they could not withstand the damage from the zombies. Judging from the situation, they would fall down soon.

"Damn it, everyone, get ready. Grab any weapons you can find!" Finally, someone couldn't sit still anymore.

With a cry of fright, almost all the survivors began to look for weapons, grabbing steel pipes, sticks, machetes and other weapons in their hands, and gathered together again, looking at the zombies nervously.

The atmosphere was becoming more and more depressing.

Under the dark night, the thick fog was spreading faster. In the depths of the fog, there were more zombies walking crookedly, gradually approaching the survivors.

"There are too many of them. The isolation net won't hold up for long. We must spread out and guard all entrances to prevent the zombies from breaking in!" Wallace came to the crowd with a trepidation and began to arrange the defense. At the same time, he fixed his eyes on Ryan, who was acting alone, and whispered, "Ryan, you are also a member of this gathering point. You need to help out."

"What do you want me to do?" Ryan responded without even turning his head, his eyes still fixed on the downstairs.

"I want you to form a team with Martin, Lucas and two others. You'll be responsible for the defense of the back door. Once you see any zombies, your job is to eliminate them before they reach here. Is that clear?"

"No, the back door is too big to be guarded by few men, and there's no isolation net there at all. It is impossible for the four of them to guard it!" Without waiting for Ryan to give an answer, Yasmin immediately stood up and shook his head repeatedly.

"Impossible for them?" The corner of Wallace's mouth twitched slightly in anger, and he seemed to be somewhat dissatisfied with Yasmin's words. He turned around, looked at Ryan, and then said. "Were you not here when Ryan easily dislocated Lucas's arm? He's quite stronger than most here, and he has combat training. Same for the rest. So, they should be fine. Moreover, I distribute tasks according to everyone's abilities. Any more objections?"

Wallace had always been brooding over Ryan's miraculous survival and drastic change in personality. He really couldn't understand why this guy suddenly became like this. He made this designation deliberately to test the guy's ability.

But Yasmin didn't know what Wallace was thinking. She paused and was about to say something when she heard Ryan's cold response.

"Okay, we'll take care of the back door. The rest of you just need to guard the front door." After saying that, Ryan stood up silently and walked straight to the back door of the gathering point.

"What's wrong with this guy?"

"Why is he so cooperative this time?"

"Something strange is going on inside his mind"

Seeing Ryan agreed so readily, everyone was surprised.

Although the back door was narrow, it did not have barbed barricades or any other solid obstruction. So, asking Ryan to guard the back door was simply a death sentence if the zombies breached the defense.

Yasmin thought for a moment, and stomped her feet again, "Hey, Ryan, wait a minute, there is no barricades at the back door, it's too dangerous for you guys to go there by yourselves, why don't you just... I'll go with you."

Ryan, who had already walked halfway, stopped on his track, feeling a little surprised. In fact, he knew very well that Wallace arranged him to guard the back door in order to settle personal grudges with him, but he didn't care about it. After all, he was different now. As long as he didn't face a large number of zombies at the same time, self-protection would not be a big problem for him.

But he never thought that Yasmin would take the initiative to step forward at this time and offer to help him guard the back door. Wasn't ’t she Wallace’s girlfriend? Why was she trying to protect him?

Not to mention Ryan, even Wallace, who was arranging tasks, was visibly stunned. He looked at Yasmin in astonishment, "You want to go too?"

"Well, the back door is too dangerous to guard when it comes to zombies. Ryan and his men alone can't guard it. I can help at least a little bit." Yasmin acted decisively. He grabbed a fire axe and strode towards the back door.

"You can't. ...." Wallace's brows were knitted together in a big frown, but due to the situation, he had to swallow his words back. However, his anger towards Ryan became deeper. "Okay, you can join them."

In addition, there were more and more zombies outside the gathering point, and many zombies had begun to dismantle the isolation net. Everyone felt a tense and oppressive feeling, and no longer cared about the little conflict just now. They all took action and prepared for defense.

After a while, Ryan, led by Yasmin, arrived at the back door of the gathering point.

As soon as they arrived at the place, Yasmin began to prepare for defense. She closed all the air vents very skillfully and guarded the passage with an axe.

Ryan, who followed closely, looked at Yasmin's back with some suspicions.

Just as he was about to say something, Yasmin spoke first, "Ryan, can you tell me why you deliberately provoked Wallace?"

"Probably for leaving me behind?." Ryan was slightly surprised, then smiled and shook his head. He did intend to provoke Wallace in order to distance himself from the others and find a place with fewer people to complete the trial. After all, he didn't want to reveal his strength too early.

Yasmin certainly didn't know what he was thinking. Seeing that Ryan still looked nonchalant, she immediately came over aggressively and glared at him fiercely, "Are you trying to get yourself killed?. You know Wallace better than that. He will kill you if you continue doing that and we won't be able to do anything about it."

"Sir, I want to tell you that this experiment is very important to us, extremely important. It is our most important task this year! I hope you can assist us in completing it!" The doctors were also anxious. If the military abandoned this experiment, they didn't know what would happen next time they needed to apply."But I can't guarantee your safety right now! Do you understand? I need to be responsible for your safety. Otherwise, if we can't even protect your safety, this experiment is meaningless!" The officer refused without even thinking. If they couldn't guarantee the most basic safety, even the best experiment would be a death sentence."But we can't give up!" The doctors rushed forward and surrounded the officer, repeatedly emphasizing the importance of their experiment. If they canceled this time, it wouldn't be so easy for the military to agree next time. They had already used many connections to get the military's cooperation this time."I need to guarantee your safety! Com

  • 356. Accident

The roar of engines filled the sky as the helicopter flew rapidly close to the mountains. Several huge black shadows flew through the deadwood forest, scattering a large number of seeds. From time to time, streaks of blue and white light shot up from behind them. Under the pilot's superb flying skills, the helicopter jumped and circled back and forth, each time just barely missing its own fuselage."Damn it, take them down already! Our fuel can't keep us flying like this!" a helicopter pilot cursed. They had been bombarding the enemy the whole way, and if they weren't so skilled, they would have already been thrown down to feed the mutated beasts."Here we come!" The two armed helicopters quickly turned around and pounced. Rocket launchers mounted on their short wings spewed flames, and one 57mm rocket after another streaked across the sky and crashed into the forest, bursting into flames. It was clear that the enemy was wiped out."We're running low on ammunition. How much longer do

  • 355. On the Road

"Alright, let's take this one! It looks alright!" Everyone looked at the road that led the way, and they could only nod in agreement. The main reason for avoiding it was that there were no bridges to cross and no other towns. Why avoid it? To prevent large numbers of mutated beasts from gathering in towns.Whether people like it or not, these mutated beast armies are indeed relying on the original human towns to operate. These towns are mainly located on various transportation routes. Just as an army needs roads to move forward, so do these towns. Otherwise, if you expect everyone to scatter and run through the forest, who knows where they would end up before they can regroup into a large army? However, this also raised another concern for them. This road doesn't have any bridges, but they mainly travel through mountainous areas. After so many years, they can't be sure whether these mountain roads still exist or if there are any landslides blocking the roads. These are all unknowns.

  • 354. Recruiting Soldiers

"Therefore, we need to increase our forces and comrades." Ryan thought for a moment. Currently, their total number of people is only nineteen, and after excluding him, there are only eighteen people. If they encounter a large group of mutated beasts, it will be the end of the game of collecting corpses.“Commander, we need more than just more troops; we also need more transport vehicles. Judging from the current capacity of the mining trucks, we can only manage a maximum of thirty people. If we need more, we would have to build a large mining plant.” The peacekeeping infantryman thought for a moment and, given that no one suggested making the space too small, fifteen people per mining truck would be fine."Then let's make thirty men, and add an infantry squad!" Ryan thought for a moment. Adding an infantry squad would make it exactly twelve men. As for the extra man, well, let's just put him in the mining truck turret. The mining truck turret can also accommodate one man for routine t

  • 353. Currency

"Sir, are you really not going to take a look? They're all genuine goods!" The other party greedily looked at the equipment on Ryan and his group. Seeing that they were so well-equipped, he figured they wouldn't be short of money. This batch of goods had been stuck in his hands for a long time, and if he couldn't sell them, he would suffer huge losses."I said, I'm not interested!" Ryan pushed the other person away. The peacekeeping infantry and conscripts gave the other person a warning look and ran over without looking back.Ryan took a few deep breaths silently and said nothing more. He simply led the group to wander around the streets below. They hadn't forgotten their goal: to find a complete map, or at least to know their current location."Hmm?! This is the only store." Ryan and the others saw a general merchandise store on a street corner. It was piled high with all sorts of odds and ends, and there was no one buying anything in front of the store. This made them feel a littl

  • 352. Slaves?

"Hey, what are you pretending to be so proper for?" The older sister in the shop was very unhappy and gave Ryan and the others an international hand gesture. A conscript turned around and saw it, but ignored it and walked away as usual.Ryan didn't have such thoughts. What kind of person would dare to open a shop in such a dog-eat-dog place? If they really thought that way, they would probably be dead outside, their bones already buried with nowhere to rest. The grass on their graves would be at least three meters high. If they couldn't control themselves, they wouldn't even get a moment of pleasure before their heads were gone.A middle-aged man sat on a sofa with more than a dozen tubes inserted into his body. He was surrounded by men in black suits, each with a pistol on their waist and a submachine gun hanging on their chest. Outside the door, more than a dozen soldiers were patrolling fully armed."How is my father?" A young man walked in, looked at his father sitting motionless
