Chapter 10: Sweep Clean Relationships (2)

Five days later? By the bank of Willow Creek?

Confused, Marsha asked: "Really? You're going to attend Richard's ghost brother's memorial ceremony?"

"Spit on that! Who would watch such ghostly nonsense?"Edgar rolled his eyes at her: "I'm here for the demolition and relocation project happening in five days!"

"Oh?"

Edgar further explained: "I don't know why, but the demolition and relocation project along Willow Creek has been progressing very fast these days."

"In five days, the demolition and relocation work will conclude, and a ceremony to call for cooperation on the redevelopment project will be held on-site. If our James family can collaborate with them, we'll surely make a huge profit!"

"Elder sister, I'm not deceiving you, not just me, but even our grandfather must personally attend in five days."

Time swiftly passed, and five days flew by.

This morning, Serena woke up very early, dressed in a black suit.

After all, attending a memorial ceremony, one should dress properly, not too casually.

When she left her room, she discovered Richard was not home, and no one answered his phone, making her slightly suspicious.

Upon reaching the living room, she saw a nutritious breakfast prepared on the table.

As Serena sat down to breakfast, she picked up the note Richard had left on the table: I've arranged for a car to pick you up, arriving at ten in the morning.

Richard.

She smiled; he truly understood people's hearts.

At that moment, Edric also woke up and came to the living room: "Serena, do you really want to accompany Richard in making trouble?"

Serena frowned: "What do you mean by making trouble? Shouldn't Richard pay respects to his deceased brother?"

Edric coldly snorted: "Dad hasn't said it's not allowed, just that the current situation needs to be reconsidered.Dad has heard that the demolition and relocation process at Willow Creek's bank will be completed this morning, and Andrew's grave will definitely not be preserved.

At this time, Richard rushing there will certainly result in loss of face.Serena, listen to dad this time, don't go there."

"Dad, rest assured, I know what's in my heart."

Edric sighed: "Forget it, I'm off to work, call me if you need anything."

He picked up his briefcase and walked towards the main door, halfway through he stopped, turned around, and said: "Serena, I was wrong to insist on marrying you off to Richard before. If you feel that Richard is not trustworthy and want a divorce to remarry, just speak up. Don't keep it to yourself. Tell me, and I will do everything in my power to help you, as a way to make it up to you."

Serena was stunned.

Currently, Richard had nothing, not even the basic necessities like food and clothing; he was entirely dependent on the James family for support.

Any other woman might not have accepted such a useless husband.

Divorce seemed like the best option.

Serena remembered the promises Richard had made to her, her trust in him, and the joyful times they had spent together in the past two days.

She decided to give Richard a chance.

"Dad, I haven't thought about getting a divorce yet."

"I still hope to stay by his side."

"At least that's how things stand for now."

Edric shook his head reluctantly: "Alright, Serena, whenever you change your mind, just let me know, anytime, alright?"

"Yes."

"Then take your time eating, I'm off to work."

No sooner had Edric left in his car than a black Audi pulled up in front of the James' house.

A tall man got out of the car.

"May I ask whom you're looking for?" Serena approached and asked.

The man bowed deeply, smiling: "Hello, Ms. James, my name is Tristan Ramsey, the boss—no, Richard is my teammate. He asked me to pick you up for the memorial service of our younger brother."

"Oh, you're the one arranged by Richard?"

"Yes."

"Alright, then let's go."

Without any suspicion, Serena closed the door, sat in the car, and Tristan Ramsey respectfully shut the door before getting in the car, starting it, and driving towards Willow Creek riverside.

A white SUV was parked on the vacant land by the Willow Creek riverside.

Brian and his nephew Eric were sitting in the car.

One was smoking, and the other was looking at the riverside scenery.

Eric laughed and said: "Uncle, you're too talented, managing to get Secretary Jones to demolish and relocate the riverside area within five days. But, I don't understand why you didn't just demolish Andrew's grave directly?"

Brian replied with disdain: "You wouldn't understand.I want to wait for Richard to come here for the memorial service, and in front of him, dig up his brother's grave! Imagine how fun it will be to see him begging and crying then, and I won't stop."

Eric nodded continuously: "Uncle, your thoughts are always so thorough. Damn it, every time I remember being beaten by that tortoise Richard, I immediately want to beat him to death right there."

Speaking of this, Brian glanced at Eric: "Richard has been enlisted for many years, so he's quite skilled physically. This time you can bring more people, but it's best not to end up beaten by him like last time."

"Don't worry, uncle, this time I've called for three trucks full of people and even prepared weapons! I refuse to believe that with the power of the Arthur family in City A, we can't deal with a useless guy who has just returned from the military."

"Good, today we must teach that black turtle Richard a lesson, to show him what happens when he crosses us."

Both of them burst into laughter, as if they had already seen the image of Richard being miserably disciplined.

Meanwhile, Serena was being taken by Tristan to Andrew's riverside tomb.

Along the way, she noticed that the riverbank area had already been sealed off.

"Indeed, just as my older sister said, the entire riverside has been completely blocked off, outsiders can't get close to the riverbank."

"It seems today there’s no way to pay respects to Andrew."

At the same time, Serena also realized that there was not a single person on the street, no one from the James family except her had come.

Seeing this scene, Serena felt a bit heartbroken.

"Richard must be very sad, right?"

"It seems that today there won't be many people participating in this memorial service."

She was grieving alone when suddenly Tristan slammed on the brakes, the car squeezed through a gap and entered the sealed area, heading straight for Andrew's tomb.

Serena panicked: "Tristan, what are you doing? Turn back now!"

Tristan laughed out loud: "Why turn back? Aren't we here to attend the memorial service, so how can we not go to the tomb to pay our respects?"

"Don’t be reckless, today is the demolition and relocation day, this whole place has been sealed off, outsiders are not allowed in. If you barge in like this, if discovered, the police could detain us for investigation."

Tristan laughed even louder: "Ms. James, don’t worry, even if they had ten times the courage, they wouldn’t dare to arrest me!"

While they were talking, the car had already arrived next to the tomb.

Tristan got out and opened the car door, respectfully inviting Serena to step out.

Serena looked around, seeing no one, she urgently asked: "Where is Richard?"

Tristan pointed upwards: "Up there."

Serena looked up, seeing nothing in the sky.

"Where?"

"Three, two, one! Here it comes."
