They entered the boarding house. Their footsteps stomped roughly at the same time along the corridor.
They simultaneously raised their steel machetes straight ahead, aiming at Barra's chest without the slightest hesitation. "System, can you find the weaknesses of these five bastards?" Barra asked in his head. The holographic blue screen buzzed softly and projected data right in front of his retinas. [Scanning five targets...] [Target 1 (Scar): High agility, poor balance on the left leg. Weapon: Carbon Steel Machete.] [Target 2: Short body posture, focused attacks from the enemy's blind spot. Swing strength below average.] [Target 3: Tanker type. Dense muscle mass, slow movement. Vital point exposed on the right stomach.] [Target 4 & 5: Support positions in the back row, low awareness level.] Barra smiled. Now he already pocketed the list of the enemies' weaknesses and strengths. So, there was no reason to be nervous. He stared sharply at them, then slid his right foot backward. Barra lowered his shoulders, taking a low stance position to minimize the enemy's attack area. "You guys are very enthusiastic, even though you are just dogs," Barra said flatly. This hallway position provided a tactical advantage for him. The five enemies could not possibly launch deadly slashes simultaneously. Behind the door of room number one, Valerie peeked from the narrow glass gap with bated breath in her throat. This man in front of her just saved her from anesthetic poisoning, and now was risking his life fighting a gang of armed killers. "Barra, dodge!" Valerie shouted. The first horizontal slash came striking from the scarred man in the front row. The man twisted his waist, aiming for Barra's neck. Barra ducked quickly downward in one smooth footing jerk. "Damn it!" the scarred man cursed roughly. The enemy's machete hit the brick wall surface on the right side hard. Barra prepared to straighten his body back up. He clenched his right fist, targeting a fatal counter punch to his first enemy's solar plexus. However, the holographic warning screen from the System suddenly appeared right in the middle of his line of sight. [Tactical Warning! Follow-up attack movement anomaly detected from the Host's left blind spot.] The voice coincided with the appearance of the second man's shadow. This short attacker appeared very agilely from the narrow gap on the left. The second man lowered his shoulder, then swung his rusty weapon from below upwards toward Barra's solar plexus. "Die!" the second man shrieked. Barra immediately tried to twist his shoulder away to avoid the deadly slash. Unfortunately, his body position was still half-ducked. His movement was restrained by the tightness of the hallway wall on the right side. The sharp tip of the rusty metal successfully scratched Barra's left shoulder squarely. A bloody red line appeared instantly on his shoulder's skin surface. Fresh blood dripped down slowly, wetting the fabric fibers of his undershirt collar. Seeing that sight, both of Valerie's knees felt weak instantly. The conglomerate group heir covered her own mouth with both palms. Her eyes widened extremely seeing Barra's dripping blood falling. Barra lost his body balance for a moment. Barra's back hit the hallway wall right behind him hard. The white paint they just applied a few minutes ago instantly stuck to the back of Barra's leather jacket. "Aarghh... bastard!" Barra hissed. "I will chop off your left hand right now!" the second man shouted with a victorious smirk. The man pulled his weapon back behind his chest, preparing to deliver a second, much deadlier slash. Barra gritted his jaw tightly. He pressed his right palm to the wall, trying to push his body forward to ruin the opponent's attack distance. However, the third man utilized Barra's shock gap very perfectly. This most stocky man stepped quickly past his partner. He immediately kicked Barra's stomach area hard using the tip of his thick steel plate boot. That leg attack speed was outside the System's calculated predictions. Barra crossed both his muscular arms in front of his chest to reduce the impact. Unfortunately, the power from that steel boot strike was too great. The attack penetrated his hand defense and hit his stomach squarely. The brutal kick forced him to kneel helplessly on the cold cement floor surface. His right hand gripped his stomach tightly, enduring the dull pain spreading quickly to all his internal organs. In three seconds, three sharp machete tips now stuck closely surrounding his position, pressing Barra's neck and face skin layers from three different directions simultaneously. One blade locked right above his artery base on the right. One blade held his chin from below. The last blade stuck tightly touching his left temple. The three attackers tightly locked every escape gap in that narrow hallway. Valerie pounded her room's glass window using her tiny fists very desperately. "I will pay all his debts! However much you ask, I will give it! Please, let him go right now!" Valerie shouted hysterically. The arrogant woman threw away all her prestige and pride. She was willing to pay Barra's debt as long as the man was not killed. "Stay inside your room and shut your mouth, Valerie!" Barra ordered with a low tone. The scarred man laughed dismissively hearing Barra's order. He stepped slowly from the back row, approaching the helplessly kneeling Barra. "A very touching sacrifice," the scarred man sneered staring at Valerie's panicked face from behind the glass window. The man turned his neck back, looking down at Barra. He spat right falling next to the man's knee. "Our boss asked for your head to be brought using a black plastic bag tonight, not money," the scarred man said smirking. Barra stared straight ahead penetrating the man's gaze. His gaze was sharp and did not show the slightest fearful reaction. "System, find a way so I can dodge," Barra commanded in his mind very calmly. The System's AI voice buzzed loudly responding to his question. [Tactical calculation complete. Movement space locked. Physical maneuver probability: 0 percent. Vital organ damage risk: 100 percent.] The scarred man stepped back half a meter. He pulled his machete away from Barra's neck slowly. The man raised his weapon very high. Both his hands tightly gripped the roughly polished wooden handle. The muscles in both his arms tensed stiffly. He prepared to slash Barra's neck using all the last strength he had. The red lit warning screen from the System blinked quickly. The System displayed a three-second countdown before the fatal attack destroyed his body. [Fatal Threat Warning! Weapon collision detected in...] [3...] [2...] [1...]Latest Chapter

"Step back and do not leave this kitchen area!" Barra ordered without turning his head back at all.Valerie stopped her movement."You want to go out front alone? What if that gang of men with machetes comes again bringing more troops?" Valerie prevented him with a thick tone of worry."Exactly because of that, you must stay here. Lock the door from the inside and turn off this light," Barra answered."Do not die foolishly out there, Barra," Valerie said softly, half-whispering, squeezing the edge of her shirt."Dying is not part of my plan tonight," the man replied flatly, stepping away. The well-built man stepped quickly down the pitch-black long hallway."System, calculate the number of enemies outside," Barra ordered.[Scanning obstructed by local storm interference. Target estimate outside the gate: One passive physical entity.]Even if it was only one person, Barra did not lower his alertness level in the slightest. When he opened the door, Barra was surprised because
Chapter 13
Barra stared through the panic in the beautiful woman's eyes, confused about what to explain. He took a deep breath. "Do not overthink it. I called a friend earlier to buy this furniture. Those couriers are human, they just work specifically for my friend's store," Barra said, making up a casual excuse.Valerie frowned. "When did you call?""When you were busy grumbling," Barra answered.Valerie scrutinized his expression, looking for a lie. However, Barra's face was entirely unreadable. She looked back at the corner of room number two. The previously dusty, cracked space now looked much better. She stared at Barra with growing awe."You have weird logistics connections for a rundown boarding house owner," Valerie muttered, crossing her arms.Barra did not reply.Valerie approached the dressing table to check its varnish. Suddenly, a transparent blue screen blinked before Barra's eyes.[Emergency Renovation Mission Complete!][Room Number Two Status: Livable Level 1.][Can

Barra wiped the sharp gravel shards from the wall hole's edge with the back of his hand.He shifted his large body closer to the brick wall, blocking Valerie's view as she tried peeking from behind."Go back to painting the wall, Miss Sinclair," Barra scolded, turning his head briefly with a warning look."Do you think I am stupid? You are hiding something in that hole," Valerie retorted suspiciously. The woman crossed her arms, refusing to step back.Barra ignored her protests completely. His focus was entirely on the black steel safe inside the wall. The safe's rust-free surface indicated expensive high-grade steel. The digital keypad on the door blinked slowly with a dim red light."System, help me check this safe," Barra ordered inwardly.A bright blue light shot from his pupils, scanning the dusty metal buttons from close range. A transparent information screen appeared seconds later.Faded reddish fingerprint traces appeared clearly under the invisible light. The finge

Barra stared at the blinking System notification screen. Two choices appeared in his head. He could let his body weaken from blood loss, or obey the System's strange order.Barra made his decision. He pulled Valerie closer in one jerk."Hey! What are you doing?!" Valerie protested, eyes wide. She fell onto Barra's broad chest. The beautiful woman struggled softly, trying to break free. Pressing her elbows into the mattress, Valerie supported her weight to avoid crushing him."Take your hands off my waist right now, Barra!" Valerie raised her voice. "Do not make me scream!""Be quiet and stay still. I just need warmth to stabilize my heartbeat," Barra replied flatly, holding her with his right hand.Valerie's exposed stomach directly touched Barra's abdominal muscles. Warmth flowed constantly between their skin. A thin golden light radiated from their touch, creeping up Barra's ribs and slowly closing the torn flesh on his left shoulder.Valerie's face instantly turned red fro

Barra's calf muscles tensed sharply. He accidentally maximized the twenty percent physical enhancement effect from the System fully across his entire neural network."Talk too much!" Barra cut in flatly with a dismissive look in his eyes.He kicked the half-full paint bucket lying right near the tip of his left knee hard. The thick white liquid flew, hitting the scarred man's face squarely."Argh! My eyes! Damn it!" the man screamed in pain. The scarred man instantly let go of his machete in a panic. He staggered backward hitting his partner while rubbing his face covered in thick paint.Barra did not waste that opportunity. There was an open gap to be exploited. He rolled forward. His right hand picked up the steel machete that just fell near his shoe."Now it is my turn!" Barra said rising on one knee.He swung the machete hard. He slashed the ankles of two other attackers in one full rotation."My leg! Bastard, my leg is cut off!" the stocky attacker screamed hysterical
