Everything looked like a dream to Desmond . He wished he could wake up and realize that life just played a prank on him and all wasn't true.
Twenty four hours ago, he was happily preparing for his wedding and right now, he is inside the cell.
He heard the sound of footsteps but didn't look up since he had no family to look after him.
Until his uncle voiced out, then he knew the footsteps were that of his visitors.
"Guess you are getting used to this already. I saw the officer in charge of this case and he told me that you are getting charged to the court tomorrow. Moreso, he advised that I should get a lawyer to defend you. What do you think about that?" Uncle Josh asked.
One could think he was trying to help his nephew with the seriousness in his voice.
Desmond , who still looked shattered, raised his head up. He was looking miserable right now. He was trying to read his uncle's facial expression but it seemed impossible.
"What are you trying to do? You ain't helping the matter right? You are here to mock me, so just go ahead. You don't need to fake concern when it's obvious that you dragged me to this level even when I did nothing wrong. If it's because of Ana, you don't need to lock me up, I have completely let go of her" he mumbled as he didn't have more strength left in him.
"I'm only trying to teach you a lesson which you can only learn by force. I noticed that you are very stubborn like your late father and my sister also did a bad job in raising you. I brought you to the city and took you under my wing, hoping that you would be useful to me. Well, it's not too late. I can still help you out of this place and retain your job at the hospital. Just a word from me, everything would be sorted out within twenty four hours, only if you are ready to dance to my tune" Uncle Josh finally expressed his thoughts. He finally said what has been dangling inside his mind
Desmond was brought back by hearing that! He was astonished that his uncle was punishing him just to get something from him? Who the heck does such a thing? He could have conversed with him in a calm way and it would be sorted out
Desmond stood up and walked forward.
"What do you want from me? I'm sure it's not something easy to see, for you to go miles to ask me. What is it?" He questioned.
"The healing book. I know you have it. My sister told me about it the last time I paid her a visit before her demise. I brought you to the city, all because of that book but I didn't see it. I searched everywhere possible but it was nowhere to be found. I once asked you of it but you shun me off. Just tell me where you kept the book and everything will go back to normal" Uncle Josh requested, chuckling at the same time.
"What! The healing book? It was passed to me by my father, who said his grandfather generated all the herbs inside the book. It's my hereditary and I promised my late father to utilize it well. I promised to heal people with it. I only went to the medical field, just to have both modern and Herbal knowledge of healing people. You want me to give it to you? Gosh! I can't believe you right now" he scoffed after getting surprised that Josh was asking for the healing book.
"Ain't you selfish? Don't be stupid like your late father! I asked him to cooperate with me and together, we will rule the world with the book but he refused. Yet, he died like nobody in your village. If you can give me the book, I'll bail you out and give you a percentage of whatever money I Make with it. You are just twenty five and I'm sure that you wouldn't want to spend the rest of your life in jail, getting punished for an offense that you know nothing about" Josh uttered, trying to reach an agreement with Desmond .
"I'll build a hospital and make you a director there. We will both rule the world together!" He added, trying to convince him.
"It's already late, uncle. I would have trusted you if you hadn't gone behind me that snatched my fiance and also lied, landing me in this position. I'm sure you would not hesitate to kill me if I give you the book or break the agreement. Thanks for bringing me into the city but I'll would rot in jail than allowing someone like you to get hold of the book" Desmond said, which annoyed his uncle more
"I promise you, you will rot in jail and I'll make sure to find the book at all costs. Idiot!" Uncle yelled as he finally lost it , then vacated the station.

The court was filled with people that wished to know what fate had in store for Desmond . As Expected, his uncle was included and came with a lawyer for Desmond .
Desmond didn't reject the lawyer, he knew he wouldn't be of any help and Uncle was only doing eyes service, trying to let people think he was the best Uncle ever and if Desmond concluded to let go of the book, his lawyer would defend him in the courtroom.
As Desmond has made up his mind, his uncle could only waited for a Anacle to happen
"I hereby sentence Desmond Maxwell into three years imprisonment for his negligence and his medical certificate should be renewed if he comes back and eligible to work again" the Judge passed his judgment after hearing from the two lawyers, which Desmond 's lawyer did nothing to help him.
Desmond closed his eyes as his heart was pierced with a dagger upon hearing the judgment but still, it was much better than bowing to his uncle's pressure.
As the prison officers walked in to take him away, his uncle stepped forward to approach him.
"Enjoy your stay at the prison, dearest Nephew. I love you but your stubbornness makes you embrace the prison, which is good anyways but I'll make sure that your medical certificate would not be renewed" he pledged and was about to go but Ajex stopped him.
"Uncle, I appreciate all you have done for me but I promise you, you will kneel down to beg me in the future. I might even be considerate enough to have you working under me" Desmond promised and signaled to the prison officers to take him away.
"Hey! What did you just say? Come back here!" Uncle vexed and kept yelling till Desmond was no longer in sight.

The Rules of the Shadow Healing
The morning after Selene's visit, Desmond arrived at the laboratory before sunrise.Researchers moved between workstations carrying trays of dried herbs. Extraction units hummed steadily in one section of the building. The sharp scent of crushed leaves and medicinal roots lingered in the air.For a few minutes, Desmond enjoyed the quiet, then his office door opened. Dr. Paige entered carrying a tablet. She looked too tired to greet him and that alone was enough warning."Morning, Dr. Paige"She placed the tablet on the table with a little more force than necessary.“ There is nothing good about the morning, Don”.“ Wow!, that's harsh”Paige ignored Desmond's dramatic expression, then she pulled out a chair and sat down."I spent half the night reviewing inventory reports. If anyone says good morning to me right now, I might become violent.""Is it that serious?", Desmond asked“ It's worse”, she answered as she slid the tablet across the table.Desmond picked it up, and the smile on h
The Midnight clinic 2
A nurse led Selene through the underground corridor. The deeper they went, the more questions formed in her mind. The facility was too organized to be temporary. It was too well staffed and too well supplied.People moved with the familiarity of those who had been working there for some time. Eventually, the nurse stopped outside an office."Mr. Liam is inside""Thank you", Selene said. She knocked once, "Come in"Desmond glanced at her with a straight face, "Dr. Selene""Mr. Liam"The door closed behind her. For a few seconds, neither spoke, then Selene took a seat."I just had a conversation with your friend outside"Desmond nodded, "I assumed you would""He told me this facility is connected to the cartel"There was no point dancing around it, so Desmond decided to come out clean."Yes"Selene watched him carefully, "What exactly does that mean?""It means the people funding this place aren't saints"The answer didn't satisfy her, "I don't think that's what it means""No, It doesn'
The Midnight clinic 1
The investigation continued even after the Ministry cleared the clinics. The public pressure had eased, but inside the operations room, nobody was celebrating.Analysts stayed at their desks through the day and often deep into the night. Every financial trail they followed opened into something larger than the last. Every company led to another intermediary, and then another, until the structure stopped looking like a chain and started looking like a web that had no clear edge.Three days after the clearance announcement, Scorpion didn’t show up for the strategy meeting.Ezra noticed first, but he didn’t say anything right away. When Scorpion missed the second meeting, Ezra finally spoke, “That’s twice now, he is acting suspicious” Desmond gave a quiet chuckle, “ Every one of his actions is always suspicious. Maybe it's related to his company anyways”Ezra shrugged, but the concern stayed with him. By the next day, he finally called him."Where are you?", Ezra asked."I'm busy", Scor
The Point of Corrections
Desmond finally understood the pattern. The headlines, the fake medication, the bribed media, and the pressure on the Ministry were all part of a coordinated effort, not aimed at Liam personally but at the system he represented. His humanitarian model was disrupting powerful interests, and what they were seeing wasn’t a personal conflict or political dispute, but a coordinated pushback from an industry threatened by its success."So what now?", Scorpion uttered.Ezra pushed off the desk and straightened, "We have enough to fight back”Desmond didn't agree, “Not yet”Scorpion was also impatient, “Why?”“ None of this reaches the people who made the decision”, Desmond explained.Ezra understood first, "They’re middle layers, so they're disposable.""Exactly. So, if we go public now, they will take the fall. Every one of them. And the system keeps moving""The companies will deny it. The contractors disappear into it", Scorpion mentioned "And nothing sticks," Ezra said.Desmond looked d
Beyond the Clinic
The next trigger came sooner than Desmond expected. It was barely seven in the morning when Ezra walked into the office carrying a stack of reports."We found it", he suddenly announced.Desmond tore his attention away from the clinic records spread across his desk"Found what?""The break in the pattern"Scorpion left the window and walked over. Ezra placed the reports on the desk and opened the first file."Every region that experienced panic received calls from media contacts within thirty minutes of the first reports appearing"Scorpion reached for the documents, “That’s not unusual in cases like this”"It is when the same communications agency is connected to all of them"That made Desmond go still for a moment. He pulled the file closer and started reading:The first few pages contained call records. Further in were internal communications gathered overnight. The names attached to the reports changed from page to page, but the language barely did. Journalists working in differen
The First Casualty
“Are you telling me a child is dead because of Liam Andrew's treatment system?”“I'm telling you that's what the reports currently say”“Reports from who?” one analyst asked immediately. “The hospital hasn't released a final statement”“A child is dead,” another replied. “Are we supposed to ignore that?”“Nobody is ignoring it”“Then stop acting like people don't have a right to be angry”“Being angry and assigning blame are two different things”The host tried to intervene, “Gentlemen….”“No, because this is exactly the problem.”“The problem is that everyone wants a verdict before an investigation.”The argument rolled on while the headline remained fixed at the bottom of the screen.HOLISTIC TREATMENT UNDER INVESTIGATION AFTER CHILD DEATHBy afternoon, the story had spread across the country. Reporters were already camped outside the regional clinic, pushing microphones toward anyone who looked like they might have answers. Inside, it was mostly movement without clarity; staff slip
