Swordsman Chronicles: Art of the Sword

CHAPTER 5

After the introduction, everyone just went straight to the main event. And that is the sword choosing ceremony. In which the first-year students are now going to choose the swords they will be using for the rest of their live. Mrs. Hilty then gave them a reminder that the sword chooses its wielder, that is why when they are hearing a voice that are leading them into a certain sword, then that’s the sword they are destined to use forever as swords have their own will, they would find you worthy if they whispered to you and led you to it. There two types of swords. The devil sword and the holy swords. If a devil sword chooses a person worthy to wield it, the sword will immediately form a contract with that person. And the eyes of the person that will become their master will turn black with a hint of red as the devil will now form a contract. The holy sword on the other hand chooses its master by their pureness and heart. As it is a weapon of holiness and righteousness, only those who have clear intentions can wield them. In this world, most swordsmen and women who wield the holy weapons are far more than the ones wielding the demon swords. The demon swords are all fussy weapons. They choose those who have dark intentions and negative qualities it will feed on to get strong. Nevertheless, racks of swords were brought up the stage, and it was being put one by one on the tables that has been prepared. Sixteen swords in total. Five of the sixteen are placed on a separate table and is hanged on these chains. It turns out that these five are high quality swords that is meant to be used on higher demons that are outside the walls. That would only mean one thing. Whosoever gets one of these five swords shall have a future on being beyond the walls, and that is a fact. Because the first requirement of being able to become a slayer is to have a high-quality sword. The students were then asked to stand in front of the tables as they then must listen to the voice they will hear. The students went quiet as the only things that can be heard are the chirping of the birds perched on trees. The first-year students then concentrated as they are now trying to hear their weapons calling out for them. And it was not long before 5 students were chosen by the holy weapons. Their eyes and the swords glowed white as the students clapped as five new students have now been added to the collection of holy sword users. Mrs. Hilty congratulated the as they are then instructed to follow a teacher so that they can be registered.  The ceremony continues as there now five students left on the stage and are not being called yet by their swords. But then, a bright light glowed on Eleanor’s whole body and a holy sword that is hanging from the chains. She approached as she then took it out and the light stopped. Next was the eerie choosing of four more people that has been chosen by demon swords. And now, Kendrick is the only one that is left on stage and there is no voice calling out for him. The students started to holler as they are now making fun of Kendrick’s speech earlier that he would only make this school as a steppingstone. But then, as the students began to throw insults at Kendrick and Mrs. Hilty is now considering bringing him down to do his choosing ceremony privately, that’s when thunder suddenly clapped in the sky. And then, two of the remaining swords suddenly created some sparks. The sword on the left turned into a black with a hint of red sword as the other one glowed a light that was blinding. Thunder continued to roll throughout the skies. When Mrs. Hilty was now thinking this is a failure ceremony and that Kendrick is not compatible with any of the swords here, until he looked at Kendrick himself. His eyes are glowing but in two assorted colors. His left eyes were black with red while the right was glowing white. Both the demon sword and the holy sword have chosen him. This has never happened before. The headmistress was just glad that someone like Kendrick is now under her care. Because if she were not, it could be dangerous to leave a kid this powerful with only vengeance in his mind alone. And when she was thinking that was all, one of her teachers then patted her on the back as she then heard the students gasped,

“L-Look at h-his back.” Says the blond teacher as he then pointed at Kendrick’s back.

It was not that visible, and it was a little blurry, but it can be seen, all right. At Kendrick’s back was wings. The left one is black and the right one is white. This has never happened before. It was if Kendrick is the actual representation of both sides. This just means one thing. He has both darkness and pureness in his heart. And without any doubt, Kendrick approached the swords. There were no voices that was calling him, but it is just the swords giving him the feeling that they are his to use and they have chosen him because he is worthy. As Kendrick took the two swords off the chains, the dark and bright light stopped, his wings disappeared, his eyes returned, and the skies then returned to normal. Two scabbards then magically appeared on both sides of his waist, one black and one white. Every jaw of the people that have witnessed this has just been dropped. Kendrick Griffin is truly an amazing kid that has a so-so bright future ahead of him. Nevertheless, Mrs. Hilty grabbed a hold of herself as she then asked one of her teachers to bring Kendrick to the registration office as she will now hold a few more words for the students. A brunette teacher then nodded as she then assisted to the registration office. He arrived there with his fellow freshmen looking at him at awe. They saw what had happened, and they just cannot believe that all of them just witnessed a choosing ceremony of someone who is dual-blade wielder. Because Kendrick might be the only person in the world who holds two different kinds of swords. An old man wearing a lab coat then came out of the office and asked the students to come in one at a time. And they started with Eleanor. After an hour or so of waiting, it was finally Kendrick’s turn. The old man then asked Kendrick to sit on a chair in front of the camera as he will now snap a picture of him for his student’s swords license and his ID. Kendrick did what the old man told him as he then looked straight into a camera. The old man told Kendrick to smile, however, he just gave him a serious look. After the picture taking, Kendrick was then called forward so he can sign something, and his fingerprint will be collected for verification. After doing that, the old man then gave Kendrick his ID and license.

“Your dorm will be at the scholar’s cottage at the back of the school. You will meet your roommates there, thank you and welcome to Sword’s Academy!” the old man greeted as Kendrick took the ID and his license as he then went out the room.

He then went to the cottage that the old man was talking about because that is what the old man said. With his bags, Kendrick arrived at this two-storey cottage. It was simple one. Kendrick climbed on the porch as he then heard a couple of voice inside. As he opened the door, he was then surprised but was not showing it, that his roommates are the 4 that has been chosen by high quality weapons.
