The room they’d stumbled into was small,and enclosed,no windows,no visible exits beyond the door they had just sealed behind them.
And worst of all,no sound,no movement,no enemies,as good as that sounded it wasn't really comforting
Zayn slowly pushed himself upright, gripping the wall for balance. His legs still felt unsteady, like they didn’t fully belong to him anymore.
“…Where are we?” he asked.
Lira moved cautiously toward the center of the room. “I don’t know.”
That alone was unsettling,she always seemed to know something.
A faint hum began to fill the air.
Zayn froze.
“…You hear that?”
“Yes.”
The sound grew louder.
Then….
A flicker of light.

Zayn blinked. “…Safe?”
Soft white light filled the room, washing away the oppressive darkness. The tension in the air shifted instantly,less suffocating, more… controlled.
Contained.
He exhaled slowly.
“…I don’t trust it.”
“You shouldn’t,” Lira said.

Zayn stared at the timer as it began counting down.
“…Ten minutes.”
“That’s more than we’ve had,” Lira said quietly.

Zayn slid down against the wall, sitting heavily on the floor,his muscles protested, but he ignored it.
For the first time since this started—
He wasn’t running,wasn’t fighting,and wasn’t about to die.
“…This is weird,” he admitted.
Lira didn’t sit.
She stayed standing, eyes scanning the room like she expected it to turn on them at any second.
Zayn let out a quiet breath. “…You can relax a little.”
“I don’t relax,” she replied.
“…Yeah. I noticed.”
Silence settled between them,not tense this time,but filled with a little bit of familiarity and understanding
Zayn glanced at her again.
“…How long have you really been here?” he asked.
She didn’t answer immediately,her gaze shifted slightly, like she was looking at something far away.
“…Long enough to forget what normal feels like.”
Zayn frowned.
“…You don’t remember anything? Before this?”
“I remember enough,” she said. “Just not the parts that matter.”
That didn’t make sense.
“…What does that mean?”
Lira finally looked at him.
“…The system takes things.”
Zayn stilled.
“…Like memories?”
“Yes.”
“…Why?”
“To keep you functional.”
He let out a short laugh. “That’s messed up.”
“It’s efficient.”
Zayn shook his head slowly.
“…So the more you survive… the less you remember?”
“…Yes.”
A heavy silence followed.
Zayn looked down at his hands.
“…Then what’s the point of escaping?” he asked quietly. “If there’s nothing left of you when you do?”
Lira didn’t respond.
Because there wasn’t a good answer.
A flicker broke the silence.

Lira moved to the door, placing her hand against it,waiting,and listening.

He blinked. “Yeah?”
“…Don’t hesitate next time.”
His expression shifted slightly.
“…I didn’t hesitate.”
“You did,” she said. “When you used your skill.”

“…I saw too many options.”
“That’s the point,” she replied. “You pick one.”
“…And if it’s wrong?”
Lira looked at him,cold,and honest.
“Then you die.”
