Megan continued, her tone firm and unwavering.
“According to the calculations and projections, everyone is going to make more money this way. Simon already assured me that they’ll use premium, high‑quality materials for the vehicles. That alone will increase the overall value and profit margin.” She lifted her chin slightly. “I discussed it with my family. We sat down and looked at everything carefully. And we all agreed that giving the contract to Simon was the smartest decision.” She gave a small shrug. “So yes, I did it. And instead of standing there acting proud like your pride alone is going to take you somewhere greater you should be grateful.” At that moment, Simon adjusted himself in his seat, sitting upright with quiet confidence. He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The faint smile on his face said enough. It was a smile of victory, of ownership, of someone who knew he had already won. Megan’s parents remained silent, watching Raymond as though his outrage was nothing more than an inconvenience. Raymond stood there, utterly stunned. The shock rooted him to the floor. He couldn’t speak. He couldn’t even process the words properly. He tried to make sense of it in his head. Tried to justify it somehow. Maybe she was being pressured. Maybe her parents had blackmailed her. Maybe Simon had forced her into it. Maybe there was something he didn’t know. Maybe she was protecting him in some twisted way. He wanted to hear that. He expected her to say she had no choice. That she had been manipulated. That she was threatened. But instead, she stood there boldly, telling him to his face that his company wasn’t good enough that they had all made a decision behind his back and handed over the very thing he had worked tirelessly for to Simon. That was what he couldn’t comprehend. For Megan’s sake, he had pushed himself beyond exhaustion. He had sacrificed sleep, pride, comfort everything just to build a future where she would never lack anything. He couldn’t believe it. At that moment Raymond finally spoke, his voice low and hollow, as though the strength had been drained from it. “I thought you were being blackmailed,” he said, looking at Megan. “I told myself there had to be a reason. I kept thinking maybe someone threatened you, maybe you were forced to do it. That was the only way I could explain why you would give my idea to someone else.” He let out a bitter breath. “I kept making excuses for you in my head. I wanted to hear that there was something anything that made this make sense. But what you’re saying now… these excuses… I can’t accept them. Not like this.” Before Megan could respond, her father cut in sharply. “Enough. Keep your mouth shut, Raymond,” he said coldly. “This is exactly who you are always prideful, always trying to prove a point, always acting like you’re some kind of savior. You pretend not to care about your ideas, yet you cling to them like they’re your entire identity.” He stepped forward, his voice rising. “Yes, we saw that your idea was good. It was for the benefit of everyone. That’s why we took it without telling you. You’re part of this family, and that means we can make decisions for you without your consent. It’s not a big deal.” Immediately his eyes hardened. “What have you ever done for this family? You’ve been making decisions for yourself all these years, and no one interfered. No one stopped you. But the first time we make a decision on your behalf, look at the result. Success is finally coming our way.” He scoffed. “Ever since you married into this family, it has been one disgrace after another. Now we finally have a chance to move forward. The York family has been declining for years ever since you became part of it over three years ago.” He shook his head in disgust. “All the people we used to associate with have moved on. They don’t want anything to do with us anymore. I can’t even go out with my friends they’ve outgrown me, because their daughters married into respectable, successful families.” He paused, letting his words sink in. “And you Raymond, in the past three years what have you done? You’ve done nothing. Absolutely nothing.” Megan’s father wasn’t finished. He let out a dry laugh and shook his head. “Didn’t you hear what Megan just said?” he continued. “Simon is going to double the money. Double it. So what exactly is the problem? Why are you so angry? Why are you acting like the sky is falling simply because your idea was used?” He spread his hands mockingly. “An idea you probably wouldn’t even be able to execute. An idea that might have collapsed under your own limitations. Who knows? You might have lost the contract halfway through and embarrassed all of us in the process.” His tone turned sharper, almost taunting. “If you weren’t so blinded by pride, you would see the opportunity in front of you. Instead of shouting here, you should be thanking Simon. In fact, you should swallow that pride of yours and beg him for a position in his company.” Simon’s smirk deepened, but he remained silent. “Yes,” Megan’s father pressed on. “You could work under him. At least that way your so‑called brain would finally be put to use. You have ideas, but you don’t know how to turn them into anything profitable. You create concepts you cannot sustain. So why not hand them over to someone who actually knows how to maximize them?” Them he leaned in slightly, his words cutting like glass. “Maybe it’s time you accepted that your ideas are only valuable in someone else’s hands and you're born to follow others.”Latest Chapter
Chapter 10
Raymond walked toward his car alone. Each step felt heavier than the last, as though the ground itself were resisting him, trying to pull him back into the wreckage he had just left behind. The noise from the building faded, the voices dissolved, and all that remained was the sound of his own breathing and his thoughts.“I never knew,” he murmured to himself, staring at the cracked pavement beneath his feet. “I really thought starting afresh would be better. I thought relying on my own potential earning everything genuinely would finally set me free.”He let out a slow, bitter laugh.“I thought walking away from the shadows of my past would bring relief. I thought finding true love would be enough. I thought keeping my past separate from my present would be a blessing.”At that moment he stopped beside his car, resting a hand on the door without opening it.“But I was wrong.”His eyes darkened.“The past doesn’t disappear. It waits. And no matter how far you run, it always finds a way

At that moment, something shifted in Megan. For years, she had told herself that everything she did was for Raymond. Every painful decision, every difficult compromise, every sleepless night had been justified in her mind by one belief that she was helping him climb. That she was shaping him into the man he was meant to become. But standing there now, absorbing the weight of his rage, his accusations, his refusal to bend it no longer felt that way.To her, it no longer looked like a man fighting for his dignity, It looked like ingratitude. And that realization cut deeply. She had expected resistance, yes. She had anticipated stubbornness. But she had never expected him to stand in front of her family in front of everyone and look at her as though she were his enemy. As though every sacrifice she had made was something to be ashamed of. As though she had spent years plotting against him rather than fighting for him.She couldn't condone it. She refused to.Her lips trembled. Her eyes f

However Raymond didn't let her finish. “Say no more.”The words came out sharp and final, cutting through everything like a blade through silence. His voice was low, but there was nothing quiet about it. It carried the weight of a man who had just watched the last thing he believed in crumble to dust. He looked at Megan really looked at her as though seeing her clearly for the very first time. “Since you don't see me as a person,” he began, his voice tight with barely contained fury, “since you never believed in what I was capable of, since you never trusted me enough to fight beside me when things got hard—”He stepped back, as though the distance between them was already inevitable. “You want me to hand everything over? To bow my head and surrender what I built with my own hands and give it all to him? You want me to strip myself of every ounce of dignity I have left and crawl into Simon's company like a defeated man?”His jaw tightened. “Never. I will never work for this

Almost immediately, without allowing Megan to say anything Megan’s father stepped in, his voice calm but heavy with authority, as though he were delivering a final judgment. “I honestly don’t understand why you’re making things so difficult for yourself,” he said, shaking his head. “Why you insist on turning your own life into a battlefield like this.” He studied Raymond coldly. “Have you even stopped to think about what you’re walking into? Instead of doing the sensible thing getting down on your knees, just as my wife advised, and begging Simon properly you’re choosing stubbornness. Pride. Trying to prove some point that, frankly, I don’t even understand.” He scoffed. “You think this is strength? This is self‑destruction.” Then his tone shifted, turning sharp. “Or have you forgotten something very important? Something City Hall will not forget.” He took a step forward. “You know very well they’re going to fine you for forgery. You won’t win that case. We submitted the co

Simon didn’t stop there. As if his words alone weren’t cruel enough, he slid his hand around Megan’s shoulder and pulled her a little closer to his side. The gesture was deliberate calculated, intimate, impossible to misunderstand. He made sure Raymond saw it. Every second of it. Then he looked up and smirked. “Tell me, Raymond,” he said, his voice laced with mockery, “if not for love, what would Megan be doing with a poor orphan like you? A man so lost he doesn’t even know his left from his right.” His smile widened. “You should be grateful. In fact, you should be thanking your stars that Megan has already divorced you.” For a moment, Raymond thought he had misheard him. The words rang in his ears, sharp and unreal, yet Simon’s face showed no trace of humor. He wasn’t joking. Not even a little. And that was what made it worse. Raymond stood frozen, staring at them as disbelief settled heavily in his chest. All this time, he had believed Megan loved him. Truly loved

At that moment, Megan’s brother suddenly cleared his throat, the sound sharp and deliberate, cutting through the tension in the room. His expression was hard, his eyes fixed on Raymond with open hostility. “I don’t even understand why everyone here is trying to convince him to accept compensation,” he said angrily. “Why should we compensate Raymond at all? He doesn’t deserve a single cent.” He took a step forward, his voice rising. “What about the three long years he’s wasted in this family? Three years of nothing. Three years where he achieved nothing meaningful for us. Three years of empty promises promises upon promises while this family became a laughingstock because of him.” He scoffed. “Those three years should be the compensation. This contract we’ve secured is us collecting what we’re owed for the time he stole from this family. Raymond deserves nothing. Absolutely nothing.” He gestured toward Simon. “Just listen to what Simon said. He’s already secured the city co
