The officer yanked Javier’s arms behind his back, fingers pressing firmly as he began searching his coat. The second officer moved with practised efficiency, scanning the seams of his clothing, patting down his sleeves, his chest, his beltline.

Everyone leaned in. Faces were tight with suspicion, eyes narrowed like they were watching a public execution.

“There!” the younger officer exclaimed.

The room gasped.

In the officer’s hand gleamed a brilliant red-and-gold wristwatch—sleek, flawless, and instantly recognisable.

“No way,” an employee muttered in disbelief. “That’s a Faleur ChronoRed. That’s... that’s impossible.”

“Are you kidding me?” a customer said, blinking rapidly. “There are only five of those in the world.”

The older officer examined it, his brows lifting slightly. “Confirmed. Serial number... yes. Limited edition.”

The shop exploded.

“I knew it!” the older employee shouted, stepping forward. “He’s a liar and a thief!”

Javier paced to the wet bar, poured himself a glass of water—no liquor tonight. Not until his mind was sharper than the blade he kept hidden beneath his coat. He took a sip, then turned back to Amara.“Start from the beginning,” he said. “How did you find out Sable was in the city?”“I intercepted chatter on a secure channel,” Amara replied, pulling a tablet from her bag and placing it on the glass table. “Encrypted, but sloppy. He’s getting arrogant. Someone referred to him as Dr. S—that’s the same alias he used in Prague.”Javier’s eyes narrowed. “And the lab?”“Abandoned pharmaceutical facility. East River district. Last used five years ago. No electricity on the grid, but the thermal scans I ran last night show movement. At least four people inside. Possibly more underground.”“So he’s building something.”“Or someone,” Amara said, her jaw clenched. “If it’s another subject like—”“Don’t.” Javier’s voice dropped, almost a whisper. “We don’t speak about Subject 12.”Amara lowered h

The elevator hummed softly as it ascended. Amara stood beside Javier in tense silence, stealing glances at him every few seconds. His hands were in his pockets now, his posture calm—but she knew better. The stillness in Javier Montalvo always came before a storm.“I didn’t expect to find you here,” she said finally, her voice low.“I didn’t expect to be humiliated in front of a lobby full of parasites,” he replied, eyes fixed on the elevator numbers. “But life’s full of surprises.”Amara winced. “They didn’t know who you were.”“They didn’t need

"Mr. Montalvo. We need to speak. It's urgent."Every voice in the lobby fell silent. Heads turned toward the woman who had just burst in—tall, striking, dressed in an immaculately tailored navy coat and heels that echoed sharply on the marble floor. Her hair was pinned back tightly, her face pale and strained, yet full of urgency. The man behind the reception desk blinked, flustered. "Do you... Do you know this gentleman, Miss?"She ignored him entirely. Her gaze was locked on Javier.Javier didn't move from where he stood—arms crossed, jaw tight, still reeling from the string of humiliating remarks hurled his way only minutes earlier. He’d tolerated the sneers, the laughs, the thinly veiled contempt from the hotel staff and a handful of self-important

The hotel lobby buzzed with well-dressed socialites and businessmen, each flaunting their wealth as if it were a contest. Marble floors gleamed under the golden chandeliers, and classical music floated gently through the air. Javier stood near the entrance, wearing a plain black shirt and dark slacks—unassuming, modest, and far from the designer-laden crowd that occupied the room.He approached the reception desk with quiet confidence, waiting patiently behind a group of guests who eyed him with visible disdain. One woman in a tight red dress glanced over her shoulder and scoffed.“Looks like security’s getting real lenient these days,” she whispered to her friend, not bothering to lower her voice. Her friend laughed, flipping her blonde hair. “Maybe he’s lost. Or looking for the kitchen entrance.”Javier said nothing, simply waited. The concierge, a tall man with a stiff posture and too much cologne, frowned when he finally looked up and saw Javier. “Sir,” he began, voice clipped and

The chandelier above the grand lobby of Hotel Caravelle sparkled like crushed diamonds, its soft golden light casting a warm glow over the marble floors. Guests in tailored suits and glittering gowns milled about, sipping champagne, chatting, laughing—the wealthy elite in their natural habitat.Javier entered quietly. He wore a simple dark blazer, pressed slacks, and a muted gray shirt. His shoes were polished but lacked the designer insignia most guests flaunted. No cufflinks. No flashy watch. No entourage.Just him. Alone. He crossed the lobby to the concierge, pausing politely as two women draped in designer gowns finished speaking.“I don’t care what

Valeria stood tall, but her throat tightened as Javier’s calm words pressed into the air between them. Around them, the board members scattered in silence, some slipping out of the room without daring to meet Javier’s gaze. Others pretended to busy themselves with their phones, too afraid to witness the incoming storm.Heather remained by the door, lingering for orders, but Javier gave her the faintest nod. She slipped out quietly, leaving only Javier and Valeria in the room.Seconds stretched. Javier’s steady, quiet demeanor didn’t change. He didn’t raise his voice, didn’t frown. But his silence was sharp enough to slice through steel.Valeria swallowed, her perfectly poised composure flickering. “You’re letting Sable manipulate you,” she said, voice steady but
