PART 13: AN UNSAFE OFFICE
It is a bright Monday. As usual on Mondays, BW Tech looks very busy. All the workers are busy with their own tasks. It is not uncommon for some of them to skip lunch just to get their work done that day. The Product Development Team is no exception. Nicholai is stunned as Detective Kim handed over a white plastic bag containing something black. “What is this?” Nicholai asks, confused. “Shoe fiber.” Detective Kim replies. “What do you mean?” Nicholai still does not understand. Detective Kim smiles. It is understandable that his client does not know what to make of his finding. It is just a black fiber that an ordinary person will probably throw away on sight, thinking it is unimportant. But he is a detective, so it is different. No matter how small, evidence is still evidence.“We did not find any suspicious traces at the crime scene. Then we tried investigating around, a bit farther, on top of the cliff. And we found this shoe fiber near a line of shoe prints. This fiber does not match Mrs. Brenda’s shoes; it seems like it is from a high-end brand. Today, as usual, Nicholai returns to the office, as if nothing had ever happened before. The man still looks fine, and he greets all the employees at BW Tech that he meets, making him the talk of the staff, including Arnold and Jessica. How can it not be? Just two days ago, the office was shaken by the news that Nicholai had been injured and had fainted, spending a whole day in the hospital, and now he is back at the office with a smile and no sign of burden on his face at all.“He looks really good even after fainting all day and almost dying.” Arnold whispers to Jessica, his eyes not leaving Nicholai, who seems busy in his office.“I guess he has an amazing charisma.” Jessica replies.“What charisma?” Arnold does not understand. “He has a charm I have never seen in usual tycoons. “You better leave and never come back here!”“Look, we are all so disgusted with you. “Good morning, World!” A woman in her 40s emerged from her house, beaming. She looks around and breathes a sigh of relief.
