Karvel lowered himself into the chair opposite his grandfather, the leather creaking softly under his weight. He reached for the glass of brandy, but did not drink immediately. Instead, he let the heavy silence between them linger, as if waiting for Jackson to draw the first blade.

The chairman swirled his own glass, the amber liquid catching the lamplight. “You surprised them today,” Elias said finally, voice low and measured. “They expected a boy to stumble. Instead, you spoke like a man who has already fought wars.”

Karvel’s lips curved faintly. “I have fought wars, Grandfather. Just not in boardrooms.”

A sharp chuckle escaped Elias. “Hah. Confidence perhaps arrogance. Both can serve you, if wielded properly.” He took a slow sip of the brandy, then fixed Karvel with a piercing gaze. “But tell me, what did you learn today not from their words, but from their eyes?”

Karvel didn’t hesitate. “That some want me to fail, others are waiting to see if I’ll prove myself. But none of them tr

Patricia’s hands clenched at her sides as she turned to face him fully, her eyes glistening with restrained tears.“You talk about consequences,” she said quietly, her voice trembling with both anger and pain. “But have you thought about the weight she carries? Every day she’s mocked, belittled, judged for every choice she makes. And instead of protecting her, we let them tear her apart.”Her husband’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t look away. “Patricia… shielding her every time will not make her stronger. You’re a mother, I understand that. But life will not always give her comfort. Sooner or later, she must learn to stand alone.”Patricia shook her head, her voice breaking. “She doesn’t need to stand alone she needs someone to stand with her. And if no one else will, then I will. Even if it means going against all of you.”The two stood in silence, the sounds of laughter and music spilling faintly from the hall behind them. The contrast was sharp inside, a party trying to pretend all

“You all came tonight to witness the young master, didn’t you? To see the great man Margaret promised would grace us with his presence. But he’s not here. And yet, look at how much noise they make about my husband. Strange, isn’t it? That the man they call useless still threatens them more than the one who never even showed up.”The guests exchanged looks, some nodding slightly, others whispering behind their hands. Elena’s confidence shifted the balance of the room suddenly, it wasn’t her standing in shame, but Margaret, Liza, and Sarah, their faces stiff with humiliation.Elena folded her arms, her smile calm and victorious. “So go on, Grandmother. Go on, Liza. Keep talking about my husband if it helps you sleep at night. But remember this every word you speak only proves how much space he takes in your minds. And trust me… he doesn’t even think about you.”The hall erupted into hushed gasps and murmurs, the weight of Elena’s words settling heavily on the air. For once, she had turn

Margaret was about to reply to Elena when someone suddenly stepped closer to her, leaning down to whisper something.“Madam… the young master and Mr. Morrison will not be able to attend the birthday party,” her assistant said carefully, his voice low as if afraid of the reaction it might spark. For a moment, Margaret stood frozen, unable to process what she had just heard. The words echoed in her ears, stripping her of the perfect composure she had maintained all evening. Her lips parted, but no sound came out. Finally, when she managed to steady herself, her voice broke in disbelief.“Why?” It was all she could manage, a single word drenched in confusion and suppressed fear. The assistant shifted uncomfortably under her piercing gaze. “I… I don’t know, Madam. That was the exact message Mr. Morrison asked me to deliver. Nothing more.”The hall grew tense. Guests who had been eagerly waiting for the grand entrance of the so-called young master began whispering among themselves, curiosi

“Mother, what the hell are you talking about? Which place?” Elena’s voice trembled with frustration, her patience thinning. “I told you all to stop talking about this. I don’t want to hear it again especially not today.”Patricia raised her hands as though in surrender, her expression calm but her words deliberate. “I am sorry, Elena. I only mean you shouldn’t ruin your birthday party over him. Tonight is about you. Forget about him for now. He will be fine. Go and greet the important guests, they’ve come here for you, not him.”Elena shook her head, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. Forget him? How could she forget the one man who mattered most, the one who had promised to stand beside her tonight? The thought twisted painfully in her chest.Just then, the sound of heels clicking against the marble floor drew her attention. Sarah and Liza, both elegantly dressed but with smugness written across their faces, walked over. Their smiles didn’t carry warmth—they carried venom.“This party

Karvel lunged forward despite his restraints, his shoulder slamming into the man’s chest. The guards rushed in instantly, raining blows across his back and ribs until he was forced down again. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, but his glare never wavered.“Touch her,” Karvel spat through clenched teeth, “and I swear, even if it’s the last thing I do, I’ll tear you apart.”The man wiped his coat where Karvel had struck him, then straightened with a chuckle. “Fiery, aren’t you? I like that. It’ll make breaking you all the more satisfying.”He turned to his men. “Lock him up. No food, no water. I want him weak by the time I’m ready.”Two guards dragged Karvel down the corridor, shoving him into a small, damp cell. The heavy iron door slammed shut, the sound reverberating like a final insult.Karvel sank against the cold wall, his breaths ragged. Pain clawed through his body, but his mind stayed razor sharp. He couldn’t give in. He couldn’t let Elena be left waiting, not when s

"I'll come meet you there later. I’ve already arranged people and a car to take you safely," Karvel said gently, adjusting the cuff of his sleeve as his eyes lingered on Elena. "I need to stop by the office first Morrison is waiting for me, and there are matters I must handle."Elena pressed her lips together and gave a small nod, though her heart sank a little. She wished he could stay, even for a moment longer, but she knew his responsibilities were heavy and important. "Alright," she whispered softly, trying to hide her disappointment behind a faint smile.Karvel studied her face for a brief moment, as if memorizing her expression before leaving. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair away from her cheek. "Don’t worry, I’ll see you there. Just enjoy yourself until I arrive."With that, he turned and walked out. The cool breeze outside carried the scent of fresh rain as he stepped into the open air. A sleek black car was already parked at the curb, the driver standing respectfull
