Chapter 14: Fred’s Viciousness

Arabella held his arm in a comforting manner and Maxwell blinked.

Sienna glared at the couple in front of her. With a huff, she walked out, slamming the door behind her.

Arabella fell back to the bed, bursting into tears, feeling betrayed by her own family. Maxwell held her as she cried softly on his chest.

“It seems we are both orphans now, Max,” She said with a sad laugh.

It was the morning of the second day and Arabella’s parents were panicking. George had called them to remind them of the deadline and the consequences. Arabella hadn’t come down from her room either and Maxwell was occupied with trying to make her feel better.

Suddenly, furious knocks sounded at the door of the house. Theodore walked towards the door and opened it timidly. Fred and Xander were standing out with sneers on their faces.

“What… what are you doing here? Has father sent you here?” Theodore stammered, staring at them both.

“Won’t you let us in, brother?” Fred said with a fake smile plastered on his face.

Without waiting for a response, Fred pushed his way with his son. Sienna stood up from the chair, a timid look in her eyes.

“What do we owe this visit, Fred? Would you like tea?”

Without even acknowledging her, Xander pulled a roll of bright red stickers inscribed with SOLD from his pocket. He walked towards one of the sofa and glued one of it to the headrest.

“What are you doing?!” Sienna shrieked.

“Marking the inventory, Auntie,” Xander said with a mocking grin, moving towards the mahogany dining table and pastering another sticker on it. “Since you will be out by tomorrow, we wouldn’t want the good things to go to waste, would we?”

Fred turned to the two housemaids standing by the kitchen door. "You two. Pack your things and leave by noon. The Zade Group doesn't pay for staff to serve failures. You're fired."

The maids looked at Theodore, who stood paralyzed, his face a mask of shame. He wanted to speak, but the sight of the red stickers seemed to choke the words in his throat.

“Not only the maids. They should all pack their backs and look for a new place to stay,” Xander added.

“48 hours isn’t up yet,” This time it was Theodore who spoke, finally finding his voice. “There’s no need for us to pack our bags.”

“Oh really?” Fred gloated. “You people really think you would be able to get the contract? Haven’t you heard about what happened to Nathan?”

Sienna’s hands trembled by her sides. “What… what happened?”

Xander glanced at his father before shrugging. “We don’t know but what we do is, Nathan isn’t in the country anymore and can no longer help you. So do well to start packing your bags and leaving,” he sneered.

“And don’t worry brother,” Fred said with a smirk. “Once I get the contract, I will try to put in a good word for you so father can allow you and your family to work at the company as janitors.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Arabella’s voice sounded from the stairs and everyone looked up to see her and Maxwell descending from the stairs.

“Your good for nothing son in law is still here?” Fred laughed. “Theodore, I thought you would have learnt by now. But it seems you will never be wise enough and this is why father hates you so much.”

Arabella watched as her father turned red from Fred’s insults and her jaw twitched, her hands curling back by her sides.

“I think that’s enough, Uncle Fred! You have said your piece. Please leave…”
