He had said it belonged to his family but she remembered the whole house was being looted before being set aflame and Maxwell didn’t take anything from the house while he was leaving for the army except the bracelet his father had given him during his departure.

Just as she was about to question him, the door bolted open.

“Arabella, what the hell are you still doing on the bed?!” Sienna screamed out her lungs. “You ran away from the meeting Nathan had arranged for you and you are here in the arms of the man who has ruined our family!”

“Mum, what are you saying? Are you aware that Nathan drugged me? Maxwell came just in time before he could do anything to me!” Arabella responded.

“And so?!” Sienna hollowed. “You were being stubborn. If only you had arranged to divorce this good for nothing and gotten married to Nathan, none of this would have happened. And now, we have turned into a laughing stock and it’s all your useless husband’s fault!”

Arabella’s eyes watered as she listened to her mother. “So, mom, you knew about it?”

Sienna stared blankly at her. “Knew about what?!”

“You knew about everything. You knew about Nathan’s plans, you were in cohorts with him that was why you kept urging me to go there. Isn’t it?” Arabella muttered, hoping she was wrong.

Sienna trembled slightly, her gaze everywhere but on Arabella. She glared at Maxwell. “You, what did you tell her?!”

Arabella chuckled sadly. “Maxwell didn’t have to tell me anything. Mum, I’m so disappointed in you.”

“You are disappointed? What right do you have to be disappointed?!” Sienna snarled. “I did what was right. You were being selfish and you didn’t think about your family only yourself and I was only doing what will benefit this family but you fumbled it!”

“Even if Nathan resorted to such means, it was surely because you were being rigid and obsessed with this stupid man. A real woman knows what to do to get what she wants! And you should be thanking me for giving you a chance with a real man!”

Maxwell watched the mother and daughter, his jaw tightened as Arabella shuddered in his arms as she listened to her mother. He couldn’t believe that Sienna won’t even be remorseful.

“And you!” She glanced at Maxwell with disgust. “You have brought nothing but shame since you returned. My daughter and my family have suffered for the past four years. You didn’t return but now that you have returned, you have suddenly had Arabella smitten that she can no longer think straight!”

“I want you out of my house. You aren’t welcome here!” She reached out to grab him but Arabella stood in between them.

“Maxwell isn’t going anywhere!” Arabella retorted. “If he’s not welcome here, then I will leave as well. Besides, with the look of things, I am not supposed to be here in the first place.”

Maxwell’s chest swelled with pride as he stared at his wife in front of him.

However, Sienna’s eyes widened, her mind was in turmoil. If Arabella left, how would they get the contract? She was still needed here.

“Why are you so stubborn?!” Sienna hissed. “Haven’t you seen the damage he has inflicted already?! Open your eyes, Arabella! There are better men out there ready to have you but you are here fighting for a foolish man!”

“I have said my piece,” Arabella replied curtly.

Sienna huffed, about to reach out to pull her away before Maxwell grabbed her hands and roughly pushed her away from them.

“How dare you!” Sienna growled, trying to gain her stamina. She tried to walk towards them again but the cold look in Maxwell’s eyes made her blood dry and she stopped dead in her tracks.

“My wife is trying to rest so keep your voice down or I will be forced to throw you out!”

“Let her go.”“Not yet. I’m not done with you, once I am, maybe I will finally let her leave until then, she stays here.”Maxwell narrows his eyes at him.“You know we all thought you were dead, especially when your family was attacked. And then suddenly, you appear again just ruining my plans over and over again,” Gilbert’s smile vanished instantly. “You should have listened to your father begging that I let your sisters stay alive but what was the use? They might decide to gang up against me but I think I made a mistake.”Gilbert smirked on seeing Maxwell’s hardened expression as he clenched his fists. “I should have sold them to merchants or kept them for my own entertainment. After all, what are pretty women good for? Entertainment yet and ownership that is why you have one. We are more alike than I think.”“I am nothing like you,” Maxwell said.“That’s what you think,” Gilbert said with a tilt of his head. “My father thought the same about your father and gave everything to him

Arabella noticed the changes in the atmosphere and for the first time since her kidnap, a surge of hope reignites in her heart. She didn’t know long she had been tied up here but she knew someone was coming for her. Gilbert sensed the shift in her expression and gave a knowing smile, he gave the tablet back to the men and said, “You can feel it as well. Maxwell was always going to come for you because that’s the kind of man he truly is. But don’t worry, my men here are still capable of holding down a commander.” He waved at the man to leave. “We just have to see just how prepared he really is. You were never the target dear, just the bait to bring your husband to me and now, my plans are slowly coming together.” Arabella stared at him blankly despite the turmoil going on in her head. Deep down, she still felt a surge of guilt down there. ‘How I wish I had listened to Maxwell,’ she thought. At that point, another guard rushes in. This time, his face was covered with panic, each s

Arabella frowned slightly. For some reason, the smile on Gilbert’s face seemed unsettling more than the situation she was currently in. The man before her didn’t behave like a criminal, he behaved like his actions were already justified.Gilbert chuckled softly as he noticed her silence. “You’re analysing me, I guess. I can see it all over you.”His fingers tapped lightly against the whiskey glass.“Maxwell choose well.”Arabella’s jaw tightened. “What exactly do you want from him?”“Everything dear,” he smirked. “But don’t worry, I won’t harm him but that will depend on if he doesn’t prove to be stubborn like his father was…” “You know, I have watched you both for the longest time and I can say you really don’t know your husband or what he has been hiding away from you. Were you that daft not to notice subtle changes?” He asked with raised brow.Arabella’s lips pursed as she thought about his questions. Truly, she didn’t know much about her husband. Time had slowly begun to reveal t

My whole family is missing and you want me to go to work? I seem to the only one missing out on all the details right now. Can someone just tell me what’s going on?!”“Don’t speak to the commander in that manner!” Hardin said in a menacing tone.“Hardin,” Maxwell called out and the man backed away. Maxwell looked up at Theodore and said calmly, “Your wife decided to rope herself in with my enemies and took my wife down with her and I’m going to get her back but whatever happens, leave it to me to handle.”Theodore’s jaw twitched as he sighed. He knew how his wife could be but he didn’t know how Maxwell would handle this situa

Brought her here?“Mom, what are you talking about?”Sienna plastered a smile and then slowly looked back at her. “Bella dear, please don’t be angry at mom. I had to choose between you and Mike and looking at you, you have enough money to bail yourself out of anything but Mike is alone and only has me. So I had to make this choice but trust me, it was too hard to choose between my children but I had no other alternative.”Arabella’s eyes widened in realization. Her

His cold voice sent a chill down her spine, and she found herself nodding as she opened the car door and slowly walked out of it. Surrounding her car were several men dressed in black, masked as well, each holding guns pointed at her. Her lips trembled as she stared at the sight. A soft whimper came from beside her.
