“Maxwell, did you steal this?” Arabella muttered, staring at her husband with a raised brow and conflicted emotions on her face.

Maxwell’s gaze softened as he shook his head. “I didn’t steal it. They have belonged to my family for generations. But, I seem to have forgotten that if someone wants to remain blind, they will remain blind no matter what help is offered to them.”

“How dare you call us blind!?” Fred thundered. “If you don’t tell us the truth now, I will call the police!”

Nathan stepped in and grabbed the beads from Holloway’s shaking hands and held them up for everyone to see. “Look at them. They are just wood, anyone can get a piece of wood and crave beads out of them and announce it to the world that it’s a treasure. Master Holloway is probably unwell and just needs rest. Security, Take the master to a side room to rest.”

“No! Let me go! Give me back the necklace!” Holloway shrieked, trying to get hold of the beads but was restrained.

Nathan turned to Maxwell while Holloway was being dragged away, a vicious smile on his face. “Nice try, Mr Green. You almost had us, too bad Master Holloway was only unwell and I’m trying to respect Mr Zade here or else I would have had you thrown out of here because you don’t belong here.”

Maxwell scoffed. “I think you should be more concerned about the state of your painting rather than where I belong.”

Nathan raised a brow at his words and the shout of one of the guests piqued his attention as he glanced at his painting, his eyes widened with shock.

A drop of blue liquid fell from the Phoenix wings, followed by another, then another. The painting was melting, turning into a puddle on the floor.

“What… what is happening?”

Nathan’s face turned pale. His painting wasn’t real. He knew that. He had ordered his guard to get a knock off to present today but he hadn’t predicted this!

The guests were in a state of panic as they shot gazes at Nathan, most of them covering their nose with napkins because the stench of the melting chemical dyes from the painting was becoming unbearable.

“Silence!” George’s voice loomed over the murmurs, stopping them at once. “Nathan has always had this family interest at heart and there’s no way he would have brought a fake painting knowingly. This had to be a mistake.”

Maxwell sneered silently. Of course, George would do everything just to save face. Even if it meant bending the truth before him.

“Moving on, I would like to make an announcement,” George continued. “I have begun to age and I need most of the responsibilities weighing me down to be handed over to someone else. It is time for me to step back and give the chairmanship of the Zades Group to someone else.”

A collective gasp echoed in the room. Fred straightened up, ready to be called upon.

“But,” George raised a finger. “You all know I have two sons, one is very capable and the other isn’t but now, the company will go to the one who can secure a partnership with the Forest Hills Group.”

The hall went dead silent. The Forest Hills Company was one of the greatest companies in the corporate world, having only existed for four years their reputation as a multi dollar successful business speaks for them.

No one here even knew anything about the President of the company. It was said that the company was run by the assistant president in his stead. A woman who held the company’s affairs with an iron fist.

Arabella hurriedly entered her car, turning on the ignition. Then, her phone rang beside her. It was Maxwell. “Where are you?” His voice came through, calm but firm. Arabella pursed her lips for a while before responding. She wondered if he knew about what happened with Victoria. But that wasn’t important now. “I’m… leaving the gala,” She replied, already pulling out of the parking lot. “Mum texted me that Mike has been arrested.” A pause came from the other end. “Don’t go there.” Her grip tightened on the steering wheel as her brows furrowed. “What?” “Don’t go there,” he repeated. “Go home.” Arabella frowned. “Maxwell, my brother is in trouble. You don’t expect me to just go home and do absolutely nothing?” “Arabella, just trust me. Do not argue, go home and leave it to me to handle.” Arabella shook her head as she drove, overtaking a car. “No. Not anymore. You have been fixing my family’s mess all on your own without telling me, I can’t put this on you as well!” A deep

Arabella raised a brow, staring at Victoria. “What did you do?” “Security!” Victoria smirked, raising her hand and snapping her fingers in the air. “I believe Mrs. Zade here—who can’t use her husband’s name for reasons best known to her—is using unorthodox methods to—” “That’s enough, Victoria!” A voice sounded within the crowd. It was loud but was enough to attract attention. The crowd parted instantly as a woman stepped forward. Seraphina Vance. The same woman who had acquired Zade’s Group from Fred Zade. Victoria’s brows furrowed. Ev

Everyone ignored Sienna’s statement and went on to keep eating. Sienna and Mike exchanged peculiar glances throughout the whole breakfast which didn’t go unnoticed by Maxwell. … Theodore sat quietly at the back seat of the taxi, the envelope on his lap. He had read the letter more times than he could count, yet it still didn’t feel real. Forest Hills. A place people talked about with respect. A company which controlled industries. The owner wasn’t well known—yet. Elena Hatfield was in charge of the company, although Arabella had swore that she had nothing to do with the letter, he had second thoughts and right now, he was nervous. His fingers tightened around the envelope. “This must be a mistake,” he muttered underneath his breath. The taxi slowed down and came to complete stop. “We’re here, sir,” the driver said. Theodore looked up. The building stood tall and proud, glass shining under the morning sun. People in clean suits walked in and out with purpose. Expensive car
