Charlotte stepped forward and pressed the 'open' button on the right side of the elevator door, but nothing happened.

Not only did the door not open, but the buttons also seemed to be dysfunctional.

After standing in front of the buttons, Tony took out his phone from his pocket, activated the flashlight mode, and used the light from his phone to help him see the numbers and letters on the buttons.
