chapter twenty

I opened my eyes wide and wondered what was happening. I saw my leg healing up. "Did the reapers have a change of mind? Aurora, are you doing this?" I asked, trying to connect with her, but no reply came. I stood up gently on my leg and walked about the room. Wow! I was fine. The thought of racing down to school crossed my mind, but I knew I had to be careful. It was what Derek had always told me. I don't know how I got healed. I took my phone and wanted to call Derek and his friends, but the thought of going back to being a cripple scared me. I decided to call Jonas.

The phone rang several times before he picked it up. I looked at his bruised face and saw that Darius and Zaco had not been making empty threats. "Are you alright?" I asked, looking into the camera before me.

Jonas managed to reply because his cheek was more like a round ball because of the constant beating he had taken from Darius. "I am sorry I brought you into all of this. I should never have." I said it pitifully.
