The night was filled with screams, fire, and the sound of bones cracking. The altar glowed with a strange red light, and the air smelled like ash and blood.

Axel knelt on the cold stone floor, holding Chloe in his arms. Her skin was pale, her breath was weak, and her eyes fluttered as if she could not keep them open.

“Chloe, stay with me,” Axel whispered, pressing his forehead to hers. His voice shook. “Please don’t leave me. Not now.”

Chloe gave him a faint smile. “Axel… it’s too late. I can feel it. The curse is taking me.”

“No!” Axel shook his head, tears falling on her face. “I won’t let it. I’ll find a way. I swear to you, I’ll find a way.”

From across the altar, Mason laughed. His laugh was sharp, cruel, and it echoed like the voice of a demon.
