"What are you saying, Dumebi, do you think this is a joke? I am talking $10,000 here and you are saying you can pay it, common man.” He replied.

"You don’t believe me, well I don’t actually blame you but what if I can?” I asked again.

"If you can? Well first of all I am going to ask where on earth you got such an amount from, secondly who are you and what have you done with my friend.” He laughed.

"Nice one though, it really helped lighten up the mood.” He said as he got up from the pavement and stretched.

“I have to get back to work, can’t afford to lose my job like someone I know.” He said as we both laughed knowing who he was talking about.

“Alright then Dumebi whatever path you are heading to, always remember to look forward. I wish you luck.” He said as he waved me goodbye.

What is the first thing people do when they become rich is to buy a new house or a car, change his appearance, go to fancy restaurants or try to get richer where should I live though and what exactly should I…….

“Oh shoot my bag. I can’t leave that bag in that house, especially not with those people.” I exclaimed, after realising I left the bag that was in my possession after my accident three years ago, it was the only thing I had left after my amnesia.

"Damn I wanted to have nothing to do there again, got to order a ride.” I muttered.

I ordered a cab, I was a bit hungry but I just had my mind on getting my bag.

We got to my former house in exactly 45 minutes due to a mild traffic.

“Thanks for the ride, giving you a 5-star rating for the cool ride.” I said as I hooped down from the Cab.

Looking at the compound of my former house made me feel a bit nostalgic. I remembered Mr. Dalton and how nice he was helping me find this building back then when I had just gotten married to his daughter.

How I wish the rest of them were even a quarter of what that man was, but no they are just annoying, ungrateful witches whose joy are to cause others sorrows.

I noticed the same red car Lizzy drove a few hours ago packed at the gate, Uloma’s elder sister. The thought of how she responded to that small boy then and how mannerless they all can be, I shaked it off and took bolder steps, as I got to the front door which was slightly opened for reasons I don’t know, I could hear and see all three of them conversing.

As usual they were gossiping about me.

"I am telling you mum; he even came to the Martze bank to withdraw money with a stolen ATM card.” Uloma was screaming at the top of her voice.

"Don’t mind him my darling, that guy was nothing but a rough in, a thug, I just knew from the moment I laid my eyes on him that he was nothing but bad luck.” Mama replied.

"Mama ehh that man needs to understand his boundaries, if not if he dares to talk to me, much less look at me again, I will give him a dirty slap.” Lizzy added.

"That man always gave me the vibe of a criminal, that is why I made my beautiful Uloma to divorce him quickly before she gets involved with all his dirty works, only God knows what would have happened to you, if you were still with him.” Mama said.

“Mama, do you know that it’s because of that useless man, my car got a dent on it.” Lizzy added.

"A dent? “mama asked.

"Yes mama o, a dent, as I was on my way here from work, would you believe that the stupid man purposely stood in front of my car, before I knew it, I hit a tree and that tree scratched my car.” She said lying between her two teeth.

“You see it now Uloma, what have I always told you about that boy and his bad luck. Thank god we have gotten rid of him before his bad luck comes to any of us." Mama said happily.

"I am pretty sure he did it on purpose just so he could ask you for money, you know to tell you that he got hit and needed money for the hospital bill.” Uloma added as they all laughed.

I couldn’t take their cheap insults anymore and decided to just go in for the reason which I came for in the first place.

I was more than happy that after this moment I would have nothing to do with their crappy family again. I walked in boldly and started marching straight to the room.

"Stop, stop there Mr. Man and who do you think you are? Barging into our house like this, are you mad or have you just lost your sense of reasoning? Mama asked, shocked and angry.

As I turned back towards her I could tell that both Uloma and Lizzy were also shocked by my appearance but I didn’t even care one bit.

“Look ma, I am just here to get my things I left here and then I will be on my way.” I replied nonchalantly.

"What? Do you own anything, do you even have anything? Family you don't have, wife you don't have, money you do not have. You are now here saying property or you think that we don’t know?” she asked.

“Know what, mama what are you talking about again?” I was even more irritated than before.

"You thief, you want to come and steal from us, like you stole that ATM card right? You want to steal here again?” She said as she got up and started to drag me by the shirt.

"Leqave now, will you leave this house or I call the cops and I will make sure they arrest you, you thief.” She started to shout.

"Mama look I don’t know what you are talking about. I am only here to take a bag I left here that is all.” I replied trying to not let my nerves get the best of me at the moment, suddenly I heard Lizzy laughing.

"I am sorry but I just can’t help it.” she said as she evenly laughed harder.

"Uloma, this man you married must have truly been a curse to you because, I mean just look at how much value he places on a mere bag, bag that you can see and buy anywhere, this man here came all the way to his ex-wife’s house just to get a bag, A Bag!" she said as she continued to laugh.

"No wonder my sister couldn’t afford to properly take care of herself when she was with you, if one bag made you come back here, sooner or later you would start sleeping in the front door.” She continued to laugh.

"You know what Dumebi? I am not that bad of a sister in law, I can still help you, even though you are no longer my brother in law. You know my company CELL? Yes I can get you a job there at least that way, you won’t have to sleep at the front of the door. You can work there as a level 3 cleaner, as you see you are not caught off to be a level 1 cleaner, so level 3 will be just fine for you after all you have a lot of experience already.” She said as both Uloma and Mama joined her to laugh.

"Wait, come to think of it, I think I recall seeing a scruffy looking bag, while I was re-arranging the room, that must be the useless bag he is asking for because that bag is certainly not mine.” Uloma said all of a sudden.

"Just wait here.” She added as she went inside and came back a few seconds later with the bag.

"Here, please take it and get out, please abeg don’t you ever come to my house again, I don’t even want to smell you here, much less see you, what do you want my future husband to think. Please don’t ever show up here again.” She shouted as she threw the bag on me.

I bent down, picked up the bag and chuckled.

"Hmm, I guess they are really somethings that never change and indeed blood is thicker than water, Uloma how much you have changed anyways I promise three of you one day you will all look back to your actions, the words you have spoken and how your behaviour towards me and wish you could take it all back, but by then it will be too late. Have a nice family reunion.” I said as I stormed out of there with all of them looking speechless.

I could hear their loud laughter as I walked out on them. I ordered another ride and while at it, I could only think of two things, getting myself a new house, starting my life over and dealing with all those who have insulted me today.

They have no idea what I am going to do to them. I picked up my cell and immediately dialled Maggie’s number.

"Hello Maggie, I am so sorry for calling you so soon but, it’s just that I need your help with something and I have no idea who else to turn to except you.” I said, feeling strong willed in my heart.

"Mr. Dumebi, please I want to remind you that answering to your every need is a privilege for me to serve, my most esteemed customer. If you are ever in need of anything no matter how big or small, we will do our best to attend to it with immediacy. Please don’t ever feel you are a burden.” She replied calmly.

“I need you to do two things for me, first buy me a nice and comfortable house for me, make sure it's in my name, send all the documents and everything to me. As for the second one can you help me find out how much the company CELL is worth.” I asked.

“CELL? It's a subsidiary of a general company called BRADON, although the company is small, it does have a lot of potential. I will send an enquiry regarding the price to the National Director and the MD of the company, as for the house it's already done"

"I will be sending all the details you ask for earlier in regards to the house, please do check for any correction and confirm if you have received.” She said.

I checked my phone which kept buzzing with information, the house was exactly to my liking. Looking at my balance I was really surprised that my balance wasn’t that much affected compared to the house picture I was seeing.

I was really thinking if I can adjust to this life, besides this used to be the life I used to live I thought to myself. Uloma and her family have been a real pain in the ass, so hence it was time to give them double the pain back.

“I have seen the house, it’s very lovely and to my liking too now as for the buying of CELL, I want to extend it, get me the price the whole BRADON and do arrange for me all the necessary document I need for the purchase, Maggie I want to buy it all please.” I said happily.

“I will do that right now, just give me a few minutes, let me just handle all the confidential matters. Well out of curiosity, well why do you want to buy BRADON?” she asked.

“Well I have my reasons, Maggie you don’t have to care about this.” I replied.

"Ok, anyways the address to your new house has been sent to you. Do enjoy your day. A pleasure always doing business with you sir.”

Buying BRADON is just the start, what I will do next no one knows.

My dear ex-wife, mother in law and sister in law, oh I will work at Lizzy's company but not as the cleaner oh no, definitely not. Let’s take on the world, damn this is what power tastes like, isn’t it? They have all stumbled into the lion’s den, let’s see how they come out of it. I feel different from how I was, from now on anyone who looks down on me, will look down at my shoes and that’s a promise.

I wanted to save his face the disgrace of his past life. I asked him to walk to the cafeteria while I follow him behind and he did as I commanded him. The cafeteria is a big one with so many serving tables here and there. Some of the costumers were eating some Kenyan delicacies and you needed to see how they were devouring the "sumptuous" meal. It had a good aroma that would cause anyone that is famished to salivate but this wasn't the time to try their food. Douglas and I had something important to discuss. We sat at the nearest serving table as I signaled the waiter to get us soft drinks. My kindness caused Douglas to fear the more. He thought I was doing him a favour that he would pay back in a thousand folds. But this wasn't so. He wasn't thinking well enough. I wanted to hear his story. Everything about him. The waiter had served us the drinks. It was enough to calm my nerves down. I gulped it as I was thirsty. Douglas felt very reluctant to take his drink. But I asked him to tak

  • Chapter 226: Guess Who I Found?

I wasn't too sure if the idea of naming the child George was a good one. How will John and his wife take it? Will they be happy about it? Will I be mocking them with the name? I hope my son will not die prematurely like the late George? My mind was preoccupied with these thoughts so I had to relax for a while. When there wasn't any other name that my heart desired, we named the child George. Sometimes, our fears only threatens us but if we shun the threat, we would be heading for success. The christening was a success and to my greatest surprise, John and his wife were happy about it. The way they snuggled the child in their arms read a million meanings. Lyda said that he looked like George during his days as a toddler. She smiled and hoped that he lived long. Thank Goodness I didn't change the name. After another week or so, I travelled for a leadership conference at Nairobi - the capital of Kenya. It was hosted by one of the most accomplished business man in the world and it was hel

  • Chapter 225: The Return of George

Maggie and I were having all the fun in this world. It was just she and I. No disturbance. I kept the news of Mama's death at the back of my memory. I wouldn't let it interfere with the nice time I was having with the love of my life. The wailing was for Uloma and Lizzy to do. I wailed enough while she was alive. Even in her wickedness, I loved her. I hope that her soul find rest in heaven or wherever! It's God's choice not mine. It was the first time Maggie had a sexual experience. She was a virgin. No one would believe she was because she was a full grown up lady. All through her years with Malid, they maintained "sexual distancing". Malid must have his own good sides too. Waiting till after marriage before such an experience must have come with a lot of patience. But maybe he wasn't patient enough so he loose his girl and not only his girl, but now, his life. I wonder what explanation he was going to give his creator for taking the life that was given to him on a platter of gold. I

  • Chapter 224: Farewell to a Miserable Life

In as much as we all enjoy peace, no one desires an eternal peace or say rest. But this wasn't the case for Mama - Uloma's mother. She desired death even though her children rebuked her severally. "Mama, don't say that!" "Mama, stop!!!" They cautioned. They warn her on a daily basis about her pessimism but she turned deaf to everything they ever said to her. She wanted a ticket to hell or wherever because life was teaching her hard lessons. She suffered from chronic fever, an illness one would consider "minor" or "ordinary" but it was getting worse by the day. There wasn't any kind of treatment Mama didn't receive. They did one thing or the other to ensure they meet up with the bills. They sold some of their properties and even their bodies for money to take good care of Mama. They went out of their comfort and did some menial jobs and secured something profitable for themselves. There was virtually nothing they didn't do. But their efforts were not amounting to any positive result.

  • Chapter 223: Peace Comes After Justice

I danced David's dance at the reception of my wedding. We were so elated and fulfilled. I now had a woman I could call mine with confidence. Friends and family joined in our dance. The bridal train were not left out too. The songs were so melodious. I mean, it was remedy for any broken heart. The musical instruments synchronized without any flop and we were just taking different steps - from left to right. We heard of the tragedy. It was as though we didn't hear the right thing. But it was true. Zero lies. It was so pathetic - the untimely death of Malid. No one could have thought that he would kick the bucket so quickly with the life of wealth he lived in. It was no news that he killed himself with poison right inside his room. He just wasted his life for nothing. He threw his poor family into mourning and complete bitterness. They hearts were heavier than the stone that was used to cover Jesus' tomb. The rumor was all around the place. It was everywhere that the founder of El-Tech c

  •  Chapter 222: The Last Drink

Nobody would believe that I "snatched" Maggie from him. After all, I didn't do that. She simply got too tired of him so she "kicked" him out of her life and will not allow him back. Thank God for Thunder who stopped him right at the gate perhaps he would have done something worst. He was such an animal. I think God assigned some angels to create him and that day, they were too tired to add a pitch of calmness in him. He just liked to burn everywhere he is found. But the fire from a lantern is not same as the one that erupts from a cooking gas. Thunder's punches were enough lessons for him and a warning never to thread the path of lions like us. Malid got home badly injured. He collapsed on his couch in tears. He had sacked all his staff and some of them resigned because they could no longer be patient with him. He was acting like a demigod and they wouldn't let another man trample on them like a snake Malid hates to see. He was growing more wild by the day so they all had to leave him
