Chapter 8
Jake spent the following day searching for an appropriate place to get suits from for Katy’s birthday ball he was attending. A lot of people treated him poorly because he was familiar to them as a delivery guy. He got to a particular boutique and stopped. Something about it just attracted him to it. When he entered the boutique, the store attendants took one look at him and decided they didn’t want to have anything to do with him. “Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you please? He was greeted by an intern. “Hi,” he said brightly and flashed her a smile. “I need help in picking out some suits for a masquerade ball.” “Oh that is really nice, so would you like a dark-themed suit, something within the lines of midnight black and maroon?” “Yes, exactly. That would be just perfect.” They heard a sudden burst of laughter and both raised their heads up to look but they could not seem to find the source of the humor. “Please ignore them.” the intern told him in a nice low voice, she was whispering, almost as if she couldn’t talk freely with them around. He tried on a lot of suits all the while receiving jeers from people that he couldn’t afford any of the outfits he had tried on. One of the other store attendants bought a defective suit for him to try, a button came off it and she accused him of ruining it and asked him to pay for damages. “I will not pay any money for a crime I’m being accused of without sufficient proof.” “What other sufficient proof do you need? Is it not obvious enough to you that you and your misfortune ruined that expensive suit.” she crooned “There is no way the button would have come off so easily unless he had some sort of blade with him, which obviously he doesn’t because he has tried on other suits and nothing went wrong with them. Have you checked to see if it was defective?” “Shut up Anne-Marie, what would you know, you are just a new intern and I have the experience to know people like him.” “Don’t you dare shut her up like that,” Jake roared. “She has the right to speak and voice her suggestions. And if you really know my likes, and have no problem with it, I would like to see the surveillance cameras.” “Why would you…?” “No objections please. If you want to accuse me then let there be evidence to back you up. Anne-Marie? Who is in charge of the footage?” “There has been a shortage of staff, so I am managing it for now.” “Okay, great, call up today’s footage and let’s see.” Jake said. After twenty minutes of reviewing the footage it was found out that Susan, the older store attendant, brought a defective suit to incriminate him. The manager was brought to address the issue, because Jake was not just going to let Susan get away with what she had done even after she had apologized. “Do you even know who he is? He is the heir to the Group Buildings and only very few people know that and by extension this store belongs to him. As a lesson to other people like you I am going to have to fire you because what you did was damaging for the reputation of the store.” “I want Ann-Marie to take up her former position, she has so far shown the most exquisite customer service skills.” Jake was assisted in carrying out the things he had purchased, and people still whispered that he had stolen the card. He just shook his head and kept walking, people would always talk whether or not you show them proof of who you are.
