“I will never understand why you choose to bear their unjust treatment all the time without reporting it.” The lady asked, scanning him from head to toe, seemingly searching for another injury.

Sebastian wiped his blood-stained mouth and asked, “Do you want a polite answer or the truth?”

The lady glared at him, “What do you mean?”

“Nothing Doyenne.” He bowed

“Speak”

“If you cared about the scholarship students, you would not turn a blind eye to their suffering despite knowing about it with the excuse of it not being reported. I dare not tell you how to run your school but if you insist on mixing high society with commoners, you have to be ready to bear the consequences that come with it, including death.” Sebastian kept his head low

“Excellent! One of my best students is actually so ruthless with his words! If it were not for me, you wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn from the crème de la crème! What would your genius mind amount to in the face of sub-standard education?”

“With all due respect Doyenne, not all the top achievers in the world went to prestigious schools, some rose to great heights without even undergoing formal education” Sebastian still had his head low. If the Doyenne could see the anger in his eyes, she would have long frozen in fear.

“Since you are so capable, why don’t you drop out right now?” The Doyenne was angry, but her anger was more at herself than Sebastian. His words cut deep.

“A Doyenne shouldn’t be heard asking a student to drop out, if words get out, it will ruin your reputation.”

“Are you threatening me?” Her tone was dangerously low now.

“I would never. Afterall, you just saved me and I do not repay favours with wickedness.”

“It’s good you can still recognize when someone does you a favour.” She eyed him and walked away.

Sebastian sighed, exhaling all the anger and frustration.

He had always wondered why the school management never did anything to address the incessant bullying in the school, leaving the poor scholarship students to survive in a wolf’s den by themselves, despite throwing them in its center! Now, it turns out it was all some feeble attempt at protecting their pride with the rich while showing their generosity to the world by giving out scholarships to commoners.

He resented the Doyenne, but it was a mix of resentment and gratitude. He was as grateful as he was angry, for indeed without the Scholarship, he would never have had the hope of turning his life around from being a maltreated orphan with no roof over his head to someone who could potentially be important in future and for the poor, hope meant everything.

He pushed his thoughts away. Walking down the hallway, he saw a familiar figure running up to him.

“Seb, are you okay? Are you hurt? I heard some students saying they saw the police cuffing you. Was it Leonard? It was him, wasn’t it? I heard…”

“I’m fine Gavriel.” Sebastian cut off his series of unending questions. If he let him go on, he would not reach home by midnight! “You look awfully chippy today; did you make a new invention?”

“You’re still able to read me like a book!” Gavriel smiled wildly, “I finally found a company willing to sponsor my invention and fees for the Starlight competition!”

Sebastian eyed him, “And you’re just telling me about this?”

“I would have told you the day after resumption but you were not in school!” His eyes widened like he just recalled something, “speaking of which, sorry about Gramps and sorry it wasn’t the first thing I said, I always lose my train of thought when it comes to tech.”

“I know, no hard feelings. Thank you.”

“When can I go pay my respects?”

Sebastian sighed, “I’ll let you know when, some things need to be settled first.” His eyes flashed briefly with a cold glint. “Yeah, Gav, will Leonard participate in the competition too?”

Gavriel looked around, acting like he was about to reveal a big secret, “Let me tell you something Seb, God has finally smiled down on me! This is my ticket out of poverty! This competition may look like an ordinary tech competition but the winner’s invention and the inventions with the best utility actually get to be produced immediately by top tech giants at no cost! Also, top tech companies will be in full attendance and if they pick an interest in your invention, winner or not, you’re assured of a smooth life from thereon.” He sighs in wistfully and continues,

“The price money for the winner is up to ten billion, half of it is investment on the product and half of it goes to the inventor. What’s more, it gets a special licence to be sold in Country B! I am not a greedy person, I only hope even one company can pick an interest in my invention, I will have no more worries till I die!” He sighs again longingly. “With such robust benefits, do you think Leonard would miss out on such a gold mine? The world’s best technologies are developed through competitions like this if you didn’t know”

Sebastian thinks for a bit then says, “How about I sponsor you Gav instead of that company? I promise I’ll give you the best terms!”

“Sorry Seb, my application has already been accepted. What kind of person would I be if I went back on my word?”

“Come on Gav, friends are always better than unknown companies with hidden agendas”

“Sorry Seb, no can do, we’re about to finalise the contract! Wait a sec, did you just say you will sponsor me? You, not someone you know?”

“Yes, me, does that help you change your mind?”

“No! It is very suspicious! How are you able to sponsor me? Look Seb, I’m not trying to look down on you but between us, you’re poorer than me. Tell me honestly, did you win the lottery? How much is it? Remember we’ve been together through thick and thin, you cannot abandon me when fortune smiles on you.” He leans in closer

“Says the person who wouldn’t even let me sponsor his invention.” Sebastian rolls his eyes.

“Ei, you know why! Tell you what, I’ll give you some shares in my product if a company picks it up! What do you say?”

“Forget it, I don’t want free money. Did you happen to see Cecile?”

“Nope, haven’t seen her since today. Speaking of a Bellisimi Tre, Zzemona was looking for you”

“Zebby was?”

“Yup.”

“I’ll find her later.” Sebastian moves to leave but turns after some thought, “If something goes wrong, my offer is still on the table”

“Why would you want to jinx my contract? Go away you scoundrel!” Gavriel kicks the air after Sebastian turned to walk away.

There was pin-drop silence and awe from the sheer magnificence of what they could see. Leonard’s awe quickly turned into gloom, then simmering anger!“This is the true nature of our project.” Cecile smiled at everyone, captivating the audience once more and Sebastian nodded beside her.“I had wanted to lay a foundation first before revealing the full model but things turned out the way it did, so here we are.”“Elemour is a rich land for any constructor who would be daring enough to make something of it – And we are those daring constructors, willing and ready to make something out of Elemour.”“The vast and beautiful sea Leonard mentioned earlier isn’t just any mere sea for speedboat races, it is part of a major ocean, ocean Titan. It’s perfect for international shipping and maritime trade. Picture cargo ships, naval fleets, massive Titanics, deep-sea fishing, on-sea facilities…” She added a dramatic flare with her hands as she enunciated each word; “…the possibilities are endless. I

  • 30. I would Never let you win Leonard, Never!

Expatriate Wilson held Sebastian’s angry gaze with his own, there was a mini-starring contest between the two as he considered all the possibilities.Brushing off the situation was not an option as news of what happened would still reach Country B. And if they knew he was here and did nothing about the situation, there would be a pound of flesh to pay.Secondly, if he used Sebastian as a scapegoat, the possibility of Cecile intervening was very high, judging from her disposition. If he used any other person, apart from Alexo as a scapegoat, he had a feeling Sebastian would do something to make the situation escalate even further. The only option was to do as Sebastian wanted. The boy weaved the trap perfectly and he could only dance to his tune as a pawn in his plan. With what just happened, if he had doubts before about Sebastian’s academic standing as he had heard, or even doubted his capabilities from the drama that was happening with his project, all the doubts evaporated with Seb

“How is it not the same thing? The scale model of Sebastian’s project is exactly the same as that of Leonard!”“Yeah!”“If it weren’t the same project, how is it possible that it has the same features as that of Leonard?”“Exactly!” There were mixed reactions among the students in the crowd.“I guess we’ll find out after my presentation if the two projects are truly similar or not.” Cecile gave a charming smile that sent millions of hearts melting, male and female. All their attention was fully on her now and the room was still.Everyone was paying rapt attention to hear what she would say, and how she would turn this project, which was a replica of Leonard’s own into something different.“I would like to point out a few things about Elemour. Just like Leonard rightly mentioned, it is indeed a hilly and mountainous terrain. One so scary-looking, it was written off as a waste land, laying bare for any constructor who would be daring enough to make something of it.”“However, the mounta

  • 28. Who said our Projects are similar?

The more Cecile thought about it, the stranger it was.Why would Leonard be so confident in presenting the stolen design without making any adjustments to it? The pairs were to be called up randomly, so how was he so certain that he would present before her and Sebastian? Her guess was, that Leonard didn’t just tamper with the timing of the presentation, he also tampered with Lecturer Grizzalo’s shuffling program. With that realization, she smiled as she wheeled up their prototype. It was covered with a white cloak.“Where is Sebastian?” One of Leonard’s minions shouted from the sidelines.“Yeah, it’s supposed to be a team presentation, not a solo presentation.” Yet another minion added.Cecile looked to Lecturer Grizzalo and he clarified, “Sebastian took an excuse from me this morning to get a report which he needs for this project. He mentioned he would be back before his partner was done so let’s wait and see, shall we? In the meantime, Cecile, please proceed. If he’s not back by th

  • 27. But they are not protecting you now either, are they? What’s the difference?

A distance away from Evertrise, Sebastian was running at full speed towards the location of the Ministries in Skymin City. It was located in the heart of the city but getting there required covering a considerable distance. And Skymin City was large.Sebastian’s speed, paired with his martial arts could surpass that of a horse at full speed, but even with that speed, it was nothing compared to the speed of a car which would have gotten him there in less than fifteen minutes. The distance he covered with his current speed felt like a drop in the ocean compared to the distance he still needed to cover. The city was just that large. He mentally laughed at himself upon recalling how he confidently told Cecile not to worry, and that he would be back on time.At this speed, if he made it back in time for lunch, then he was a living human rocket! Poverty wasn’t a good thing, and as Sebastian ran, the irritation of being poor gnawed away at him. In that moment, he began to consider the Guerri

“Leonard, what do you mean by you’re cutting all ties with me?” Anna asked, her anger and irritation from last night still simmering on her skin. She was physically recovered thanks to Wintore Hospital’s expert care, but the same could not be said about her mind.“Exactly what you heard. I have no use for a has-been, a violent one at that. You should be grateful I didn’t put you in jail for assault.” Leonard was still nursing the stinging pain on his bandaged right cheek from the injury Anna inflicted on him last night in Wintore Hospital.“You have no right to throw me out now!” Anna’s voice was rising in decibels, just outside the conference room to be used for the project presentation, “Not after everything you made me do for you! Now all of a sudden when I need you the most, you’re leaving me to hang dry?!!!” A mini crowd was gathering around them.Leonard dragged her away from prying eyes into a corner, he pinned her with his elbow at her neck to the wall, “Listen and listen caref
