Roland handed over a tablet showing the photo of the scientist.

“Do you have any more information about him?” William asked.

“Apparently he is a renowned scientist from Wentworth City and was a major factor in the success of Lakewood Enterprises, but apparently he went missing about 5 months ago.” Roland replied.

William's eyes widened. “Missing?”

“Yes, his family filed a missing complaint for him after he never showed up from work.” Roland replied.

“Shortly after, his family was nowhere to be found either. If I had to guess, I'd say Ryker kidnapped him and is forcing him to work on the bioweapon.” Roland explained.

“I think right now our main objective should be finding this Dr. Frankenbaum.”

“I'm already on it. I've run his face through facial recognition software to see if he matches any CCTV footage anywhere in the world. I'll let you know once we get a hit.”

About two hours later, Roland returned. “I think I found him”

“Can’t you watch where you are going?” Sophia snapped even though she was at fault. Sophia was already prepared to insult him but quickly stopped when she saw him. He was tall, had broad shoulders and was impeccably dressed. Her anger seemed to suddenly disappear. He was still holding her arm gently, keeping her steady as if she weighed nothing. There was a soft concern in his eyes and adding his sharp jawline and well styled hair, Sophia felt almost star struck. “I’m really sorry. I hope you are okay?” he said with his smooth, calm, deep voice. “I… I’m fine,” she muttered, feeling a bit flustered. She shook her arm gently, but not too hard. A part of her didn’t want him to let go. “Let me buy you a coffee. It was my fault for standing so still in your path” he offered. She took a while to compose herself before speaking again. “Sure” she said as she adjusted her blouse. “There’s a place just down the street.” “Perfect.” They arrived at the little cafe, which was fin

Sophia sat stiffly on the leather sofa in the reception area. Her perfectly manicured nails tapped anxiously against her handbag. Ever since it was revealed at her birthday party that she was responsible for the scandal about Martha, she had lost jobs and no one would hire her. She had come to see a director she had worked with before in hopes that he could perhaps feature her in a movie. She didn’t care if it was just a side role, she had grown very desperate. The receptionist had informed her that the director was busy and couldn’t see at the moment, so she had to wait. She had been waiting for hours and there was still no word. People came and went. She watched as a younger actress walked in after her and was immediately escorted into the director’s office with a warm smile from the assistant. Sophia’s jaw tightened. Another influence-turned-actress walked in and was allowed to go into his office. She crossed her legs, checked her phone and tried to force herself not to g

The gunshot echoed across the cliffside like a thunderclap. William grunted as the bullet scraped his shoulder, a hot streak of pain flashing through him. Ryker stood, eyes burning with triumph, thinking he'd gained the upper hand. But this time, William didn’t hesitate. He pulled the trigger twice in quick succession. The first bullet tore into Ryker’s side while the second one hit his chest, forcing him to gasp in pain. His body shifted back from the impact as he stumbled back. He tried to gain his footing, but he slipped at the cliff’s edge. “No—!” Ryker screamed before tumbling over the edge, his scream swallowed by the crashing waves of water. William walked over to the cliff, Ryker’s body had hit the violent waves, he was surely dead. William's shirt had begun to slowly soak with blood from the shoulder injury. However it wasn’t a serious injury, and he was going to be okay. He turned and quickly made his back to the warehouse where the gunfight had broken out. By

“There’s nothing to deny,” William replied. Ryker stopped in front of him. “So you admit it? You betrayed me.” “I stopped you,” William said firmly. “I couldn’t let you murder thousands of innocent people just because you wanted to make money. That was never part of the plan.” Ryker’s nostrils flared. “The plan? The plan was for power. The plan was survival. You were nothing before I brought you in. Do you remember that, William?” “I remember,” William said. “And that is why I agreed to your deal, but I never signed up for something like this.” “You ungrateful worm,” Ryker snapped. “Everything you are, everything you’ve built, was because of me. And now you stab me in the back?” Ryker pulled out his pistol and aimed it at William’s chest.“I should’ve killed you when we found you on that island.” The tension in the room thickened. Suddenly, a click echoed. Natasha stepped forward, her pistol raised and aimed squarely at Ryker. “Don’t,” she said, keeping her voice steady. “

The night air was cool when Natasha returned to the safe house. William was already waiting. He stood near the window, arms crossed. She stepped in quietly, her expression unreadable. “Well?” William asked. Natasha took a breath. “He doesn’t know.” William’s brow furrowed slightly. “Doesn’t know what?” “That you were involved in what happened,” she said. “He has no idea that you were working with Rayner and Thomford. He still trusts you.” William exhaled slowly and nodded. “Good. That gives us an advantage.” Natasha hesitated. “He wants to meet with you. Alone.” William turned fully to face her now. “Why?” “He says he needs help,” she replied. “He knows the security agencies are after him, and he’s getting desperate. He thinks... if anyone has the resources to help him disappear, it’s you.” William narrowed his eyes. “Disappear?” “He wants to discuss a plan. A way out. Somewhere safe where no one will find him. He believes you can make that happen.” Natasha explained

William’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen. It was Rayner. He answered immediately. “Did you get him?” There was a pause before Rayner spoke, his voice heavy. “No. He escaped.” William’s eyes widened. “Escaped? How?” “He used a flashbang,” Rayner explained. “He caught us off guard.” William’s jaw clenched. “Alright. Did he find out I had anything to do with it?” “No,” Rayner replied. “We didn’t talk that much before he escaped.” William exhaled. “Good. That gives us a little time.” he said before he ended the call. “Ryker escaped?” Natasha asked as he ended the call. William nodded. “Yes. This makes things a bit more complicated.”A worried look formed on Natasha’s face. “Are you sure Rayner and Thomford are telling the truth? How could he have escaped them? What if they decided to side with Ryker and turn on us?”Roland shook his head as he entered the conversation. “I don’t think so. The international security agencies are already aware of the bioweapon, it won’t make s
