Chapter Forty One
“She’s about to go in!” Tyler said, sitting up in the car.Ria turned her gaze towards the windscreen and watched as a woman walked into a trailer.“What is she doing here?” Ria asked, narrowing her eyes. “Would they be hiding Raymond in a trailer?”Al could be illogical sometimes, but hiding Raymond in a trailer on the outskirts of town seemed too careless, even for him.“I don’t think he’d be that dumb,” Tyler said.Ria drummed her fingers against the steering wheel, her eyes fixed on the trailer. If Raymond wasn’t there, why would Dera come here? She couldn’t shake the feeling that they were missing something. “So what the hell is Dera doing here?” she muttered.“Let’s find out!”“How are we supposed to do that?”Tyler pulled out his cocked gun before responding. He ducked his head below the dashboard to put on his shoes.“We’re going in there. Let’s shake her down and find out what she’s doing here.”Ria pressed her lips together. She glanced at the trailer one last time, before
Chapter Forty
(This is written in third person POV)Al paced the room, his teeth gritted with rage. His footsteps echoed through the room like a slow drumbeat. Two of his men stood beside him. No one dared meet his eyes.“So none of you can explain where the fuck he went?” Al stopped pacing. “What do I pay you motherfuckers for?”Dera walked in with two other men.Al’s face tightened when Dera got closer. A vein pulsed in his neck. “Where the fuck is he?” he stepped into Dera’s space. Dera shook her head. “I don’t know!” Dera’s voice cracked. Her eyes darted towards the exit. “Where the fuck were you?”“I stepped out to get some food. And he was still here when I left.”Al let out a loud breath and continued pacing the room.He suddenly stopped.“Check the CCTV footage,” he said. One of the men stepped out of the room.Al swept a cold stare across the room and continued pacing.A couple of minutes later, the man walked back in.“Boss, we have a problem,” he said, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Wh
Chapter Thirty Nine
“For how long were you going to hide?” the man said as Ria opened the door for him.Ria rolled her eyes as he brushed past her and walked into the apartment. She already regretted opening that door. “What are you doing here, Damien?” Ria asked. She stood behind him, her arms crossed over her chest.“You’re not going to offer me a drink?” Damien said, raising a brow. “You should treat an old colleague better than this.”Ria kissed her teeth and stepped toward Damien.“What do you want from me?”He sat before she’d invited him. “So you think being fired from the FBI will make me stay away from you? Come on, you and I still have unfinished business.” Damien peered into her deep blue eyes.Ria shrugged, shifting her weight. Maybe because she didn't know which emotion to express first.Maybe shame.Because she had been fired from a job she claimed to love.Or maybe she was ashamed that an ex co-worker came to mock her.And maybe she was kind of happy because she had been on house arrest
Chapter Thirty Eight
This is written in First Person POV (Raymond)Do they have beds in heaven? No!I can’t be in heaven! This has to be hell. Because for all the evil things I’ve done, I don’t think I deserve eternal life. And even if this was hell, I should be lying on a wooden surface—maybe. But this feels like a bed.The last thing I could remember was the conversation I had with Al. And after he went out of the room, it was just darkness. But before the darkness engulfed me, I saw the faint figure of someone walking in. Maybe I was hallucinating, but that figure looked kind of familiar. I just couldn’t place it.And now where the fuck is this?I can’t even move a muscle. And my eyes are shut!Is this how tightly dead people shut their eyes?I forced my eyes open, and pain shot through my head. It took a minute before I could identify the chandelier in my line of sight. I still don’t know where this is, but it’s not a hospital either. The room swam for a split second, before everything slowly settled
Chapter Thirty Seven
The air felt a bit too thick. The room was empty, dark, and silent—except for the faint breaths of Raymond as he jerked back to life. Numb wrists. His shoulders ached from being tied. A cough darted out of his lips. Criminals aren't tied down like this. His hands were tied behind his back as he sat on the wooden chair. He couldn't see any form of light. And that's when he felt the soft tinges of fabric on his skin. Ria’s hand doesn’t feel this soft. It's a freaking blindfold. He tried to move his feet.Pain shot through them as the chair clanked beneath him. Then it occurred to him to utter a word. He realized his mouth was taped too.And no matter how much he mumbled—it didn't seem like anyone was going to hear him.But whoever did this might have his lawyer to contend with, because even the guy who tried to kill Donald Trump was not treated like this.A huge amount of liquid splashed on Raymond's face. His blindfold was taken off, and he saw a masked guy beside him, holding a b
Chapter Thirty Six
“Captain Elias demands that you see him right now in his office,” a male colleague said to Ria.Ria rolled her eyes and slammed a pen on her desk.“Alright. Thanks,” she muttered through gritted teeth. The colleague walked away.Ria’s heart pounded faster, and it felt like the world was going to crash at her feet. There was no way she was going to survive it either.“Damn it!” Ria breathed, tightening her sweaty fist as she walked towards Elias’ office. She slowly pushed the door open. The enraged blue eyes of Elias welcomed her nervous gaze. The fluorescent lighting made her squint a little. His gaze settled on her as she stood across the desk.“You sent for me, sir,” Ria said, hunching her head. Even if she stood at attention, her knees felt weaker than jelly. Silence. Except for the humming air-conditioner. Elias still had his eyes on her, like he was a predator about to swallow its prey.“Sir, I—”“This is the end of your three days, Ria,” Elias said, leaning closer to his desk
