“Wait! You haven’t collected your check yet.” Haylee spoke, but he kept walking.
“I don’t need it.”
As Haylee watched him walk away, she felt a strange sensation in her chest.
It felt like she was losing something valuable, but she refused to back down. She believed that she was doing what was best for her, so there was no need to feel guilty.
Roman walked away and put his hands in his pocket. That was when he felt the black card and the ring that were given to him by the blonde woman he spoke to earlier.
He put the ring on his finger and decided to visit the bank like she said. Even if the woman was lying about his true identity, he wanted to confirm for himself. After all, he no longer had anything to lose.
He had just gotten to the bank after several minutes and was about to climb up the stairs when he heard a familiar voice behind him.
“What is a beggar like you doing in such a prestigious place?”
He turned and saw his mother-in-law, Fiona, standing beside his sister-in-law, Marilyn. Then he remembered he was now divorced so they were now his ex-in laws.
He wanted to just ignore them in order not to cause a scene at such a public place, but of course, they wouldn’t just let him pass in peace.
“Paupers like you don’t belong here. I’m sure you came by to cash in the check you got from my daughter. You could have gone to a lesser bank. Aren’t you even ashamed to walk in a place like this while looking like you rolled in a trash can?” Fiona had a smug look on her face as he turned towards her.
“I’m so glad my sister finally decided to get rid of you. Having you around was such an embarrassment to our family name. You just kept dragging my sister down with your pitiful lifestyle. Make sure you pack all the garbage that belongs to you out of her house today, else I’ll personally make sure it’s thrown out into the streets.” Marilyn smirked and put her hands on her hips.
He was about to remind them that they had saved up to buy the house together, so the house didn’t belong to Haylee alone, but Fiona noticed the ring on his finger. Not his wedding ring, he had already tossed that in the gutter as soon as he signed the divorce paper. The antique ring that the blonde woman had given to him. Fiona’s eyes widened, and she immediately began to calculate the cost of such a ring.
“So you’re not just just poor, you’re also a thief. Where did you get that ring? You must have stolen it from my daughter. Give it back right now. I won’t let you take advantage of her. Also give me the check she wrote to you. Don’t you have any shame? How dare you try to take what doesn’t belong to you?” Fiona began to yell and tried to drag the ring from Roman.
He stepped aside and while she tried to turn around, she slipped and fell.
“I didn’t take a dime from your daughter, nor did I steal from her. I’m no longer a part of your family now that I am divorced from Haylee, so leave me alone.”
“Liar! Security! Security! This man just tried to kill my mother.” Marilyn began to yell at the top of her voice as she crouched beside her mother.
Meanwhile, Fiona began to weep, and pretend like she was in pain when she was fine. Two security guards stepped forward to assess the situation, and Roman put his hands up in a sign of surrender. He wanted to make sure they saw that he was unarmed and therefore not dangerous.
“I’m just here to conduct business. These women were the ones who stepped in my path and refused to let me be.”
Marilyn began to laugh. “What business could a penniless street urchin like you possibly have to do in a place like this? Do you think we’re stupid? You don’t even qualify for the lowest job position in a place like this. Go back to cleaning the gutters. It’s the perfect place for a tramp like you.”
“Sir, we’re going to need proof of your identity in order to verify if you’re truly a customer, or if what these ladies claim is true.” One of the guards said.
Fiona immediately interrupted, even though they were not speaking to her.
“Do you not see how dirty his clothes are? How could you possibly think he’s a customer? In order to get access to this bank, even a basic bronze card requires you to have a deposit of at least ten million dollars. Even if this man works for the next ten years from dawn to dusk, he would never be able to make such a deposit.”
Marilyn turned to Roman with an arrogant smirk as she took out a bronze card. “Hamilton helped us secure this bronze card with a twenty million dollar deposit, and he’s not even married to Haylee yet. Imagine what he will do when he finally becomes family. What have you been able to achieve in your years of marriage to Haylee? I’m sure the most expensive gift you’ve given to her will not even cost up to a hundred dollars.”
Her mockery made him angry, instead of making him sad. He had endured years of their ridicule just out of his love for Haylee. Now that Haylee had tossed his love aside like it meant nothing, he no longer had to take their abuse. He reached into his pocket and took out the black card that was given to him by the blonde woman.
“The supreme black card?!”
There were three types of black cards, the premium, which required a deposit of at least six hundred million dollars. The royal black card, which required a deposit of at least nine hundred million dollars. And the supreme black card, which required at least ten billion dollars deposit.
The supreme was the highest card available and only two people had ever been able to achieve that. Roman was holding one of the two supreme black cards available in the whole country.
Marilyn’s jaw dropped and she stared with her mouth open. Fiona stuttered, and her hands began to shake. They weren’t the only ones who were stunned.
The security guards stared at the card in Roman’s hand like he was holding a great treasure. And the supreme black card was actually a treasure. It was easy to identify because it was the only black card that had been engraved with gold.
They wondered how he could possibly have gotten a supreme black card.

She Refused To Team
As they had initially discussed, Roman's legal team had reached out to Annabel's own legal team. The call from Roman's lawyer reached Victor that mid morning. Martin had placed the call himself.“Good day, Mr Hosè,” he started smoothly with a professional tone, “I am calling from the Averne Company. I am one of Mr Averne's legal representatives. I have called to inform you that we would like to propose a collaborative approach, given as our teams are aligned in goal and burden. A united front may serve both clients — and this case — better.”There was a long pause on the other end of the line. Then, “Let me get in touch with my client, and get back to you,” Victor replied. “Thank you very much.” Victor immediately phoned Annabel. “Annabel, I just received a call from a legal representative of Mr Averne's, saying that they would like to join us in this case,” Victor said immediately Annabel picked up the phone. “No. I want nothing to do with them.” Annabel said flatly. “What if th

Kade had indeed called Martin as Roman ordered, to tell him about Lara being fired. Martin in turn called Roman and they arrived at the decision to further interrogate Lara and get more information out of her, should they need it. The interrogation was to take place the very next day. The interrogation was to take place in the boardroom. Already seated around the long table were Roman, Martin, and other lawyers in the team. Lara stood right at the center of the table. She hadn’t sat down, even though there was a chair there for her. She was fidgeting and stealing glances at Roman every few seconds. He had not spoken since she entered, and she knew how angry he was. It was the silver haired lawyer in their midst that started. Martin took his phone, put it on and pressed record.“Miss Morell,” the man started as he flipped open the small leather notebook in front of him, “You’ve already admitted to breaching internal protocols. But now we need specifics. Who approached you? What did
Fired And Disgraced
The next morning, Roman arrived at his office way earlier than usual. He didn’t greet anyone in the hallway or even nod at the receptionist as he usually did. He went straight to his office, shut the door, and told his assistant not to let anyone in unless he called for them. Ten minutes later, he called for someone."Get Lara Morell up here. Now.""Yes, sir." The assistant said immediately. Lara was sitting silently and shamefully at her desk when she got a call that the CEO wanted to see her. Immediately she heard the word 'CEO,' she knew she was in deep trouble. She got up and made her way to the last floor where Roman's office was situated. When she finally entered the office some five minutes later, her steps were very slow and had no confidence in them. She carried her tablet as support for her idle hands, but didn’t open it. Roman was behind his desk, staring at something on his screen. He didn’t look up immediately. "Sit." He ordered. She obeyed and sat down. A long silenc
The Easy Part
Annabel received the call from Victor early the next morning just as she woke up. Victor's voice on the other end was steady even though it was very early in the morning, which meant that he had been working the whole night."The injunction held," he said, skipping the pleasantries. "The court accepted our pre-filing position, and there will be no movement from their side to counter it, so we have that advantage now."Annabel nodded. "That's very good. What about the lawsuit?""Yes, about that... the final copy is ready. I have organized all the documentation, exhibits, and testimonial references. I will get them court stamped right after this call, and then when the judge approves the service, we can go live."Annabel sighed. "How long will this take?""Seventy two hours max," Victor said. There was a long pause. Then Annabel said, "Okay. Let’s do it."Victor let another bout of silence settle between them for a breath before he continued. "This means you’ll be public again. Once th
Cut Off
Victor Hosè arrived at Freya's apartment only a few minutes after noon. Annabel was already waiting near the entrance for him by the time he came. She greeted him with a kiss on his cheek and let him in. Freya had offered to stay in the kitchen to give them space, but Annabel had asked her to stay nearby. After all, everything they were about to discuss had been a joint effort.Victor was a tall man in his mid-forties. He was dressed in a gray suit, and had a quiet kind of authority that didn’t ask for attention. He was the type of man who commanded respect without making a sound, and Annabel trusted him because of it.He paused at the doorway, looked around the apartment, and then at her.“You’re thinner,” he noted without judgment.“long story.” she replied as she let him in.He nodded once, dropped his briefcase on the small table, and unbuttoned his jacket. “Let’s get started.”They sat together in the living room — Annabel and Victor sat on the couch, while Freya sat on the armre
Written Statement
Freya left Janice’s house just after seven the next morning. A taxi waited for her at the curb, while Janice stood and watched her go at the front door in her robe, and a cup of coffee in her hand.“You will keep in touch, won’t you?” she asked with a smile that did not reach her eyes.Freya nodded, forcing a matching smile. “Of course.”Janice leaned in and kissed Freya on the cheek before she went to the taxi. “You’ve grown so much, Freya. I’m glad you came back.”Freya said nothing. She smiled again and nodded. She got into the taxi, gave the driver the address to her apartment, and stared out through the window as the engine came to life and drove them away. When she arrived at her place, she was surprised to find the door already slightly open. She knew what it meant, because she had texted Annabel the previous night to let her know she would be coming back early. She pushed the door open and entered inside. The first thing she noticed was the smell of coffee that hit her immedia
