Ethan shouted at the walkie-talkie he was holding. "Is anybody there? Marcus! Sandra! Can you hear me?" he shouted, hitting the table in frustration. "What the hell is going on?" Johnny looked at Ethan's face and didn't understand what was going on. "The zombies—did we burn them?" He asked, taking a part of the vile and strapping his back to his bag. "I don't think we did. We had them buried." Johnny replied

"Then we are fucked." Ethan said this under his breath as he walked towards the exit.

Johnny ran to his front and immediately blocked his path. "Are you trying to get us killed? I think you need to tell us anything if there is something wrong." He said, looking at but being thrown off by Ethan's reaction.

Back in his youth, Ethan had always gone on solo operations. He was better, faster, and could concentrate when he was alone. He doesn't need the help of any teammate, and he has always done fine on his own. He drew Johnny towards him and looked into his eyes.

"Did I ask you to come with me, boy?" he shouted in anger. "You are going to do exactly as I say, or I would have to push you out and let the zombies feast on you." Ethan threatened

Johnny's face became pale as he looked at Ethan, who seemed to mean every word that he said. "We need to blow off this place." Ethan looked at him.

"Blow off? Why do we need to do that?" Johnny asked again.

"You are doing that again. I just told you that no questions."Ethan looked back at him. "We need to leave this place as soon as possible too. The refuge is being swarmed with zombies, I think." Ethan's face showed he was scared.

He had just reunited with his dear sister, and now it looked like he was going to lose her all over again. Johnny looked around, and he saw a lighter. He walked closer to some of the glass tubes on the table and mixed some content together. "This should do the job." He looked at Ethan. "It seems like you know what you are doing." Ethan complimented him.

"I was the best science student during my school days, so yes, I definitely know what I am doing." Johnny replied

"So, how do we get the hell out of here?" He added, staring at Ethan's face.

"Where the hell is Clara?" She should be back by now." Ethan looked at the door, and they heard a sound. "I think that is her." Johnny said, slowly leaving the heavy metal they had used to barricade the door. "What are you doing? We need to leave now. Did you get what you came for?" She looked at Ethan, who walked out of the hospital without saying a word.

Clara looked at Johnny, who trailed after Ethan. "Are you coming?" Ethan looked at Clara, who was still standing at the entrance of the hospital. She entered, and the hospital blew off before they sped off towards the refugee camp. Ethan's face showed he was worried about why Johnny kept tight-sealed lips. Clara, on the other hand, glanced at both of them and wondered why the atmosphere was a bit tense, unlike when they first walked out of the camp in pursuit of whatever it was that Ethan was going after.

"Did you at least get what you came out here for?" Clara asked Ethan again. "The refuge is under attack. I think that is what you need to be worried about." Ethan replied

Clara looked at Ethan and then back at Johnny. "Are you kidding me right now?" She said it with a bit of a frightened face. No one talked, and she lost it. "What the hell is going on?" Clara sbiuted, making Ethan stop the car.

The snarl of the zombies could be heard getting closer to them. Ethan turned back to look at her. "The next time you are going to raise your voice at me, child, I am going to throw you out of whatever it is that you are in. Or shall I throw you out right now?" He squeezed his face.

"Yeah, he said that to me too." Johnny was looking out of the window when Clara looked at him. They kept driving back, as the journey was going to take them half a day's journey. The chirping sound of the cricket was all they could hear as Ethan kept driving at full speed. Marcus, Rachel, and Sandra were all he could think about. He prayed silently that they should be alive when he got back to the camp.

Clara looked at the map leading back to the camp. A sign of fear was evident in her face. Her mother was back at home, as was her little sister.

They got to the front gate of the camp, and Ethan got out of the car. "Give me the bow." He requested it with his arm stretched out. "Shoot anything on sight and make sure you are not killing any real humans." He ordered

"How do we know they are not real humans?" Johnny looked at Ethan, who had his eyebrow furrowed. "Did you just ask me that?" He looked back at him.

Clara dipped her hand into her back pocket and roughed out a dagger. "You need to protect yourself with this." She said she was walking behind Ethan.

The town was awfully quiet, as Ethan's ragged breath could be heard. He pushed the gate back gently, with the squeaking sound audibly heard. "Eyes sharp." He looked at Johnny and Clara, who were right behind him. A zombie came out of nowhere and charged towards Ethan. He quickly shot it down and kept walking. "Where is everybody?" Clara said, looking around. The place looked isolated, and she wondered where all the people they had left behind before leaving were. "Do you think they escaped?" Johnny asked, looking at Ethan.

" Look." Clara's voice made Ethan follow her hand to the horrible sight before them.

The blood didn’t stop flowing. Zack's lifeless body lay crumpled by the bunker gate, his rifle still clenched in his hands. Talia had gone down shielding Miles—only for them both to be torn apart by the enhanced. Barnet’s final scream still echoed faintly, swallowed by the screech of gunfire and the guttural roars of monsters that were once men. Ethan stumbled into the lab, bloodied and bruised, every muscle in his body trembling from strain and grief. The only thing that kept him upright now was Selena. She slammed the reinforced door behind them, bolting it with shaking hands. Outside, gunfire dwindled, turning into a chilling silence. “They’re gone,” Ethan said, voice barely audible. “All of them…” Selena didn’t answer right away. She was pacing the room like a caged animal, checking equipment, fumbling with canisters and tubes as tears silently streamed down her face. “You did what you had to,” she said finally. “No, I didn’t,” Ethan whispered. “I brought them here. I told

The tension inside the fort bristled like dry kindling near a flame. Ethan stood unmoving, eyes glowing an eerie, shifting blue. Across from him, Lt. Grayson didn’t flinch, but the way her hand hovered near the pistol at her hip betrayed her unease. Around them, the convoy group—Zack, Barnet, Talia, Miles, and the rest—stood close, weapons raised but uncertain. Soldiers from the fort, clad in a patchwork of old-world military gear and survivalist armor, responded in kind. One wrong word, and this fragile calm would shatter into blood and bullets. “Let me talk to her,” Ethan said quietly. “To Selena.” Grayson tilted her head. “Why? So you do want the serum for yourself after all!" “She never asked for this,” Ethan replied. “Neither did I. But we both had to survive.” Grayson’s mouth twisted into a bitter smile. “Survive? Don’t talk to me about survival, enhanced. You walk in here with glowing eyes and think you’re still one of us?” Zack stepped forward, rifle lowered but ready.

The tires screeched against the cracked asphalt as the convoy tore through the desolate outskirts of what had once been downtown Greenville. Dust billowed behind them, clouding the rearview mirrors like a curtain of smoke hiding whatever horrors chased them. Inside the lead vehicle, Ethan sat at the wheel, jaw clenched, eyes burning with that unnatural blue glow. Beside him, Zack braced a boot against the dashboard, weapon at the ready, eyes fixed on the side mirror. “They’re gaining,” Zack muttered, tightening his grip on the rifle. “I know,” Ethan said without looking. “Then maybe you’d like to explain what the hell Recon Team Bravo meant by ‘not normal’? We’ve fought dozens of infected before. None of them moved like that.” “They’re not wrong,” Ethan answered, voice grim. “There’s been a mutation. I’ve seen it. They’re calling them Phantoms.” “Phantoms?” Zack spat. “You waited until now to tell us?” “I didn’t think Selena could make the serum so fast. I was wrong.”

" Do you even know what you are doing?" Zack looked at Barnett. " Why?" He asked as they load the car with ammunition. " I have been doing the mathematics here. Have you?" Zack said throwing a AK-47 at him. " We don't have to follow him or his words? Ethan is doing all of this for his own selfish gain." Zack said in anger. " What if we are killed? Are you telling me our death would have been for nothing?" Barnet looked back, his eyes landing Ethan who was busy getting himself armed. " Don't be stupid! This could get us what we want. Haven't you always been jealous of him?" he said looking at Ethan yet again " He is strong, powerful and can move faster than any of us. Isn't that what you have always wanted? We won't be scared of walking even when the heard is coming. We are going to be worshipped. Imagine us taking control over the banks. The money, we could go anywhere we want to." Barnet said laughing. " Eye on the prize, Zack. Stay sharp!" " Really? What exactly are we going to

As the snarl echoed through the mansion, panic spread like wildfire among the gathered men and women. They scrambled back, eyes wide with fear as the door burst open, revealing a massive figure—twisted, bloody, and clearly infected. The berserk zombie, muscles bulging and eyes wild, lunged into the room, roaring with primal rage. Ethan’s instincts kicked in. “Everyone, get back! Form a line!” he shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos. But the crowd was paralyzed by fear, watching as the creature barreled towards them, its teeth gnashing. Zack and Barnet moved to grab the closest weapons, but the zombie was faster. It swiped at a man in the front, sending him sprawling to the ground with a sickening crunch. “We can’t let it get any closer!” Barnet yelled, firing his rifle at the creature. The bullets ricocheted off its thick skin, enraging it further. Ethan took a deep breath, grounding himself in the moment. “We need to distract it!” He grabbed a nearby wooden chair, hefting

"Are you alright?" Zack asked again, looking at Ethan, who was now standing rooted to a spot. "Is he?" Barnet looked at Zack, and both of them moved back again. Ethan. understood the message well and knew he had to save Selena. Benjamin was going to torture her with everything he has if she refused to spill the truth about where the serums were. "We need to go now! We are not having enough time to save her. The system. gave me just four days." Ethan said sweating. "The system? what system?" Barnet asked, looking at Zack, who was also confused. "What are you talking about, soldier boy?" Barnet asked, forcing the words out of his mouth. "We just need to say save her, and that is all that matters." Ethan replied "HHave you forgotten the part where you need to convince the men to join your cause?" Zack said scornfully, taking a seat."And don't forget you killed their fathers and sons. I wonder if they would like to join hands with a murderer." Barnet added Ethan's face changed as h
