Rejected

"Divorce my daughter and this would be yours." A feminine voice said staring into the eyes of the young man in front of her with disdain.

She felt repulsed talking to him, but at this moment, she has no other choice but to do so. She was sure he was going to be able to refuse her offer since he needed the money rather badly.

Max the young man with handsome features stared at the woman in front of him not knowing what to say. The woman in front of him was his mother-in-law and she was demanding that he divorce her daughter so she would give him the money.

Couldn't she have some sense of responsibility? He was going to use the money to save his mother and needed it rather badly, but yet she was trying to make things hard for him.

He should have known this since the time she asked to meet him at the restaurant. Max felt his anger boiling but there was nothing he could do about it.

He couldn't afford just a million to save his mother who was critically ill and needed the money. The delivery job he was doing couldn't get him such an amount and he had to resort to his mother-in-law to help.

The clothes he was watering were worn out and cheap. His shoes and everything were just out of place. He looked like a beggar in the extremely expensive restaurant and even the waitress looked at him in disdain.

"Max, do you agree or not?" The feminine voice came again bringing him out of his thoughts.

Max raised his head and looked at his materialistic mother-in-law, Rachel, he could see the disdain she held for him but he could care less. There was no way he was going to see his wife for money.

"I'm sorry, but I can't divorce my wife." Max shook his head.

"Who do you think you are?" Rachel fumed standing up as she banged the table.

"You're just a scum who couldn't find a proper job after you finished your degree and you think you can hold onto my daughter."

"My daughter is not for the likes of you, her future is limitless while you're just a trash who's destined to be at the feet of others. You're just a toad trying to eat swan meat."

Max furrowed his brows looking at his mother-in-law. Finally, she showed the disgust she has always held for him. He loved his wife and she loved him even with the fact that he was just a delivery boy. She had endured all kinds of taunts just because she was married to him. There was no way he was going to agree to his mother-in-law's ridiculous request

"He's just a poor loser, he should just accept the money and leave that woman's daughter."

"From the looks of it, I guessed he must have Bewitched her daughter for her to fall in love with a penniless man like him."

Voices of the guests in the restaurant drifted into Max's ears. All looking down on him with disgust.

Rachel had a smirk on her face hearing what the people were saying, she was sure that Max would have no other choice but to listen to her. She looked at Max waiting for his decision as she was sure he would have no other choice.

Max on the other hand was at a loss and didn't know what to do. He was in a very perilous situation. He has always thought he didn't need money to acquire things in this world, but it seems he was wrong.

"Accept my offer or else you'll end up losing everything." Rachel banged the table in anger when she could no longer take Max's silence.

Max glanced at his mother-in-law and shook his head slowly.

"How dare you?" Rachel raged, banging the table as she stood up. Her eyes were red from anger and her stare would have killed Max a thousand times.

"You useless scum bag! Do you think I'll allow my daughter to be tainted?"

"You're just a person whose potential is bound to be withheld by others, you're bound to be trampled on by others. You'll leave my daughter alone and file for a divorce immediately, I've already set up her engagement with the young master of the Carols family, let's see how you stop it."

"Also, you're not going to receive a dime from me again."

Max looked at Rachel and couldn't be bothered by her anymore, she despised him so much so there was no point in replying to her. Well, he wasn't bothered by her threats. At the very least, if his wife didn't agree to the engagement set up by her mother there was nothing she could do about it.

"Useless...."

"Blrrr....."

Max's phone rang at the moment, cutting Rachel off from what she was about to say.

Max frowned and looked at the caller's ID, he was even more confused as it was a strange number. After hesitating for a while, he picked up the call.

"Max Ambrose, your mother's condition has just gotten worse and your attention is needed." A voice from the other end said and immediately, the call was disconnected.

Max looked at his phone in shock not knowing what to do next. He just couldn't process what was happening.

"It seems like your mum's condition has just gotten worse, are you going to refuse my offer?" Rachel Snickered, staring at Max.

She was sure that Max would agree as he wouldn't want his mother to die no matter what. After all, blood was thicker than water.

"I'm sorry, but I can't." Max shook his head and stood up rushing out of the restaurant.

There was no reason to wait any longer, his mother's health was in danger so there was no need to stay any longer.

"He can't even give up the love of his life to save his mother, what a heartless being?"

"He's so foolish, he thinks the woman he loves will continue to love him forever. There was no way she was going to stay with someone as poor as him."

The other guest's voice drifted into Max's ear as he rushed out of the restaurant.

"You're bound to be back." Rachel fumed as she watched Max rush out of the restaurant.
