Eric had no idea who his mother was since he never got to meet her. He grew up with his father and had no memories of who his mother was or what she looked like.

Every time Eric tried to ask his father about her, he would always reply by saying she was beautiful and had died a natural death.

Eric noticed that if he tried to go deeper with the questions concerning his mother, his father would always find a way to change the topic.

Eric didn't think too much about it since he couldn't imagine his father lying or hiding something from him, so he chose to never ask again.

However, what was going on right now made him want to know more about his family's background and who exactly his mother was. "I never met my mother. My father said she died when I was only a child, and her death was natural and not something painful." Eric finally replied after a few minutes of silence.

"I see. And you do not have any memories of her? A photo, maybe?" The elderly man known as Ali inquired.

"No, I don't have anything relating to her," Eric responded. "Wait, this bracelet." Eric then slid his hand into his pocket and took out a silver bracelet with the marking of a phoenix on it.

"My father said this bracelet belongs to her. He said that she left it behind for me on her dying bed, and when I come of age, I will learn the truth about it." Eric informed, while stretching forth the bracelet towards Ali.

Ali retrieved the bracelet and took a closer look. "This marking belongs to the Magical Phoenix goddess. A magical goddess who was able to conjure fire out of nowhere, a very powerful magical goddess who was feared by all. If this bracelet belonged to your mother, then your mother was the magical phoenix god, and you are a descendant of her!" Ali explained in a serious tone.

Eric stood there in silence as he struggled to digest what he had just heard. He has heard so much about the magical phoenix goddess.

A goddess who had the power to wipe out a whole planet with a snap of her finger. A goddess who could make a whole world go down on its knees and worship her.

Her power was on another level, and even the rest of the magical gods feared her.  "So, you are saying the goddess was my mother?" Eric muttered after a few minutes of silence.

"Most likely. The goddess must have had an affair with your father during her stay on Earth. Some rumors say that magical gods shouldn't get attached to humans, and if that should happen, the god would lose all power and evaporate into thin air."

"That must have been what happened. The Phoenix goddess must have had deep feelings for your father that were impossible for her to let go, even when she knew the risk. She must have evaporated into thin air right after she gave birth to you; that's why no one heard about the goddess again, and you never met your mother." Ali enlightened in an audible tone.

Eric went mute once again after hearing the words of Ali, as he began to digest the new set of information.

The fact that his father kept something this huge from him made his blood boil, and he couldn't wait to confront him and ask him the reason why he did it.

All his life, he had thought he was a mere commoner from a poor home, but he wasn't a commoner after all. In fact, he was a descendant of a powerful goddess.

Seeing that Eric wasn't saying anything, Ali spoke further. "You said you heard a feminine voice call your name from this temple, correct?" Ali inquired, and Eric gave a nod in response. "That was your mother calling you."

"She must have sensed you were close by, and since she knew you were old enough to learn the truth, she directed your path to this very temple. Any god who finally passes away after centuries, their souls would always remain here, so it means your mother's soul still dwells in this temple; that's why she brought you in here. A place where you won't leave until you gain enough information and awaken the power that resides within you." He added.

"Wait, what?" Eric blurted out. "What do you mean I won't get to leave until I awaken my powers?"

"The door is shut, Eric, and the only way to leave is if you open it with your fire ability," Ali replied.

"How do you know my name? You know what, forget it, just let me out of here. All that you've been saying has been nothing but bullshit. You don't know a thing about me! I am no descendant of a god, man. I am only the son of a man who cleans houses and toilets, and my mother was probably a maid and not a goddess!" Eric's voice reverberated throughout the place, and his face was already bright red in anger.

"Give me my bracelet, I am leaving this place even if it means I have to knock down the damn door!" Eric then yanked his silver bracelet from Ali and began to walk towards the door.

The information Ali bombarded him with was too much to handle all at once, and it ended up making him lose his cool and see it all as a lie.

"Eric, the door won't open unless you open it with your magic!" Ali informed him as he watched Eric walk towards the door hastily.

His words fell on deaf ears as Eric kept walking forward and was now arriving closer to the door. "I said the door won't open!" Ali voiced out, and finally, Eric halted his steps and turned around swiftly.

"Shut up!" Eric shouted as he threw out both of his hands with his palms wide open, and what looked like a round fireball shot out from the palms of his hands and headed towards Ali.

"You sent for me, master." The mage spoke respectfully."The son of the phoenix goddess has awakened his ability." The hooded man informedHearing the words of the hooded man, the eyes of the mage widened in shock, and his heart skipped a beat. "Impossible!" The mage blurted out. "I thought they killed the lover of the goddess and also her son!""It appears the magical gods only made that story up to convince everyone that the abomination has been taken care of, but the truth is, the son of the phoenix goddess still lives, and he just awakened the phoenix's magical ability." The hooded man remarked in the same deep and terrifying voice."This is bad. If our Lord finds out about this, he would definitely go mad. The Phoenix goddess was the only magical god who had the power to stop him, and now that her son wields that power, it means there's someone out there who is capable of defeating our Lord." The mage voiced out in a worrisome tone."We can't let that happen. If the Lord finds ou

Eric ran through the street, and it took him nothing less than ten minutes before arriving back home. He pushed the door open and walked inside. "Good evening, Dad." Eric greeted as he sat down on the wooden chair where his father had already served his food. He picked up a spoon and began eating. After successfully channeling his magic, Eric felt really hungry to the extent that he felt like he could eat a full cow on his own.The channelling drained all of his energy. "So, you want to tell me that you've been out taking a stroll?" Gary questioned as he sat down opposite Eric."Uhmm, yeah. I was taking a walk." Eric replied."Taking a walk for 9 hours?" Gary blurted out."Yeah, I was definitely taking a walk." Eric lied as he kept eating his food. "All this information I learnt yesterday was a bit too much, and I needed time to think about it and digest this whole thing," Eric added."I just hope you did exactly like I told you and didn't reveal anything to anyone," Gary uttered."I

  • CHAPTER 8

Eric ran through the street feeling anxious about everything, and he couldn't wait to ask Ali more questions relating to his newfound ability. Eric finally arrived in the woods, and he began to make his way towards the area where he found the temple. "Huh?" A puzzled expression appeared on Eric's face as he finally arrived there. "Where is the temple?" Eric blurted. The spot where the temple once stood was empty, and all Eric could see now was tall trees and grass."Did I miss my way?" Eric mused as he glanced around the place with a puzzled expression. "This is definitely the place. Why then isn't it here?"None of it made sense to Eric. How could a giant building like that suddenly vanish into thin air without any trace?"Was it all an illusion!" Eric then straightened one of his fingers and summoned a small flame above it. "I have my magic, I have the spell book, so it definitely wasn't an illusion. The temple was here yesterday, but now it is gone. What happened to that old man?

Eric had his gaze fixed intently on the page of the spell book. The words that were once written in a language that Eric didn't understand were now written boldly in English. The page contains instructions on how to master the basic technique in the spell book. Eric glanced through the page quickly and also noticed a drawing below the page, demonstrating what needs to be done for him to get a hang of the technique."Circulation technique. A technique where I learn how to circulate my magical cells around my body, and once I master it, my strength, agility, perception, and speed would be increased." Eric mused with his fingers rubbing his chin in contemplation.Every magician's speed and strength are far greater than those of a normal human without magic. Eric thought their speed was different because they must have used some spell to boost it, but the truth was they already mastered the number one technique in their spell book, which was to circulate their magical cells around their

Eric ran through the dimly lit street for several minutes until he finally arrived home. He pushed the door open and walked in to see his father pacing back and forth in the living room."Eric, where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you! I even went to the market, but you were not there!" Gary voiced out after catching sight of Eric."Forget all that and let's discuss something more important, Dad," Eric uttered as he walked towards him."What's the matter, Eric? Is everything okay?" Gary questioned."How can everything be okay when you lied to me!" Eric voiced out in anger."What are you talking about? Eric, you are scaring me." Gary inquired."I am talking about this." Eric then lifted one of his fingers, and a red flame could be seen dancing above it. Gary's eyes widened slightly after catching a glimpse of the flame."How did you do that? How did you find out about this, Eric?" Gary asked in disbelief."So it's true? Why didn't you tell me anything about this?" Eric

"Shut up!" Eric shouted as he threw out both of his hands with his palms wide open, and what looked like a round fireball shot out from the palms of his hands and headed towards Ali.Catching sight of the beam heading towards him, Ali stretched forth his wand and muttered a quick spell, and what looked like ice shot out from his wand and got rid of the incoming fireball.Eric's eyes widened in shock at what had just happened, and he quickly shifted his gaze to his palms, where the fireballs came from. "Did I just cast a spell?" Eric uttered in disbelief."You are a natural, Eric. I didn't expect any less from the descendant of the Phoenix goddess. Your magic must have triggered unconsciously when you were filled with several emotions like anger, sadness, confusion, and joy. Sometimes your emotions could help you control your abilities and use them to the fullest." Ali explained."Also, I am sure you didn't notice the bracelet in your hand glowing before it vanished into thin air," Ali
