16: Mother's Love (II)

“Miss Jenkins!” Said the mayor, visibly upset. He had been taken by surprise, raising the scare at the exact moment that the lady had arrived. She kept a steady Nelore gaze, while the group felt uncomfortable in this situation. Leonard tried to sneak away, but Adam let him by his coat cap.

Marcus cleared his throat before continuing, bringing with him a tone of authority to try and mask his embarrassment.

“You see, Mrs. Jenkins, we are having an important meeting. You cannot enter without being called, and in this impoliteness.”

But the lady didn't move a foot, returning in kind.

“We villagers are part of the village, and we need to be integrated into the affairs. Even more so when it comes to something to do with the possible state of OUR children.”

In the face of this onslaught, the mayor faltered, his eyes now drifting to the walls.

"Ms. Jenkins, please understand that we are doing everything we can to handle this situation as best we can."
