At that moment, the driver's words only made the suspicion around Ethan grow heavier.

The man was still staring at him with wide, unsettled eyes, as if even now he couldn't fully process what he had witnessed earlier.

"I don't think he knew what he did," the driver said, almost stumbling over his own words in his haste to explain. "But he pulled the bullet out. She didn't even—there was nothing. Nothing! And yet his hands were there, and the next thing, she was breathing better."

His voice carried a strange mixture of fear and disbelief.

It wasn't admiration.

It wasn't gratitude.

It was the fear a man felt when he had seen something he couldn't explain.

And once those words left his mouth, every gaze in the area sharpened on Ethan.

The black dragon men stared at him differently now.

Not just as some random passerby.

Not even just as a nuisance.

But as an unknown factor.

A variable.

A problem.

Victoria and Grace also looked at him, though their expressions were more complicated. Grace's eyes held confusion and surprise, while Victoria's carried the stubborn disbelief of someone who didn't yet know whether to trust him or blame him for making everything even more dangerous.

Ethan stood there calmly, his expression flat, but inwardly he was already growing impatient.

This whole thing was spiraling into something messier than he wanted.

The station, already tense and nearly emptied of ordinary people, now felt like a sealed battlefield. The overhead lights buzzed weakly. The wind from the open terminal doors pushed bits of paper and dust across the ground. Somewhere in the distance, a vehicle horn sounded and faded, indifferent to the storm brewing here.

Ethan let out a quiet breath.

Then he spoke.

"I don't have time to stand here exchanging words with all of you," he said evenly.

His tone wasn't loud, but it cut clearly through the air.

That made them pause.

He lifted his gaze and looked directly at the leader.

"Let's settle this amicably."

For a second, there was silence.

The suggestion itself seemed so absurd in the middle of all this violence that even the gang members looked momentarily stunned.

Ethan continued anyway, his face still unreadable.

"You said you're here for her," he said, tilting his head slightly toward the young lady. "And from what I can see, all you want to do is oppress her."

His eyes cooled.

"I'm not going to allow that to happen."

That sentence made several of the men shift, their expressions hardening instantly.

But Ethan went on as if he hadn't noticed.

"So why don't we let go of all this?" he said. "Maybe I go my way alone. Maybe all of you go your own way. Everybody follows their separate path, and that's the end of it."

He gave the faintest shrug.

"That actually makes sense, doesn't it?"

For one single beat, the place fell silent.

Then the boss laughed.

It wasn't a small chuckle.

It was a full, mocking, disbelieving laugh that burst out of him and echoed through the station.

The men around him joined in almost immediately. Some bent slightly at the waist with amusement. Others slapped each other on the shoulder. A few threw Ethan open looks of ridicule, like they couldn't believe such nonsense had just come out of his mouth.

Even Kevin smirked from where he stood, his arms folded across his chest, enjoying the scene.

The boss wiped at the corner of his eye dramatically as though Ethan's words had genuinely amused him.

"Who the hell is this fool?" he said at last.

The laughter around him grew louder.

He took a slow step forward, staring at Ethan with open contempt.

"So you think you can just say a few words, and that's going to be all?" he asked. "You think you can just stand there, utter some nonsense, and we're going to free her to you?"

His voice sharpened.

"You think we're just going to let you have her? Is that what you actually believe?"
