Clara flew into a rage instantly. “You are such an ingrate, Ethan. Do you know how hard it was for me to find those shoes? Who gave you the right to throw something I bought on the floor? Always complaining about everything! You are so bitter.” She blurted.
“An ingrate? You gave me something that some other person rejected, a leftover pair of shoes! You pretend to care about our anniversary but you spent it out with someone else. If begging to be treated right makes me a bitter person, then so be it.” He retorted.
“Oh please, save me your whole codependent act. I know the Lamborghini Damian got is why you have been acting out all day, he told me what you did! How dare you call and threaten him!”
“I didn't threaten him, I just wanted to know what he did to deserve such. Why would you spend that much money to celebrate an employee?”
“Hmm,” Clara scoffed. “I just told the finance department to show some appreciation for our top sales representative. Did you seriously need to call and yell at him? I know that you are envious of him, don't be such a jealous person, Ethan!”
“Jealous? No, I don't care what you do for your so-called top salesman, I only care about responsible spending. Our company is still young and growing, such undeserved and unnecessary expenses will affect us! Moreover, why did you not run the idea past me first? I am still the CEO!” He insisted.
“That is none of your business, Ethan. Let me remind you, that company is under my name. You have no say in what I do, rewarding the top sales representative is basic management, I don't need your permission to do something that small, is that clear?” Clara fired.
Ethan sighed, he was already having a headache from her shouting but he didn't have the energy to continue this argument.
“Fine, the company is in your name and I don't get a say in your decisions, agreed. But what about our marriage, do I also not get on a say on why you spent our anniversary night with?” He asked, showing her the pictures of them that Damian Lillard had posted.
Clara groaned and grabbed the phone, smashing it on the floor. “I told you so many times, stop trying to control me. Just because we are married doesn't mean you get a say on who I spend time with. So what if I went out with Damian, he is just a good friend and wanted to celebrate my wedding anniversary with me. What's so bad about that?”
Ethan couldn't believe her words. So she would rather spend their anniversary with her so-called friend than her actual husband?
“A good friend? That's not what he is thinking, Clara. He clearly wants you, why can't you see that he is driving a wedge between us? You spend time with him rather than me, your husband. Why is that so?”
“Oh please, not again with your nonsense talks. You are just an insecure man, stop whining like a woman and focus on working on yourself. Take a good look at yourself, you are in a terrible condition. If you continue like this, in a few years you will be bald and beer-bellied. Damian on the other hand works out, so how can you compare?” She mocked.
Ethan couldn't help but laugh at her mockery. Before he met her, he had an athletic build, he was even part of the basketball team, fit and strong, that's probably why she didn't hesitate to marry him.
But data piles, junk food and sleepless nights had worn him down.
Damian Lillard on the other hand was just a sales representative who did little work and was also incredibly lazy at his job, so of course he had time to hit the gym. He didn't work around the clock to see that the company was a success like Ethan did.
Ethan wondered if it never occurred to her that spending all of his time building their company was why he looked this way. He wasn't lazy, he just didn't have time.
Anyway, it didn't matter explaining to this woman, clearly she had lost interest in him. He just felt bad for himself, for not seeing it earlier, for giving up everything for a woman who doesn't appreciate him.
He was exhausted mentally and physically and couldn't take it anymore.
“I think I need some space,” Ethan said, unable to stand her nagging so much. “A few days away from the company and you.” He muttered and headed upstairs.
Ethan expected her to chase after him and apologize but she only scoffed, showing less concerned. Then she started yelling insults at him and trashing the living room in anger.
Once she was done throwing things around, she picked up her phone and called Damian to complain of her husband. After a while, she was laughing happily again, totally forgetting the incident.
Meanwhile, Ethan had gone up to their bedroom and packed his bag with a few clothes and his laptop, then he headed out.
Clara was surprised when she saw him come back to the living room with his suitcase in hand.
“Hey! Where do you think you are going?” she stood up in surprise.
“I will stay at a hotel henceforth, since you find my looks repulsive, I will not bother you with my presence in this house. Perhaps now you can find it more comfortable in my absence,” he blurted.
“What? We just had a little fight and you are leaving, such a feminine behavior. You are not even a real man, you can't take a little criticism.” She mocked.
“Do you think I will beg you not to go? Bullshit! You know what? I don't care, go wherever you like. What does it matter? We both know you will come running back to me in a few hours.” She laughed.
In the past, Ethan couldn't sleep until he was sure that Clara was sleeping peacefully, so he always had sleep anxiety when she was away, but right now, he had promised himself not to care.
If she wanted to leave the house, get drunk or get in trouble in his absence, then that was her problem to deal with.
He checked in at a hotel and paid for a week. The presentation was in a week, after which he will decide the way forward for his marriage with Clara.

Humbling the group chat
Ethan looked at his suit and back up at her. “Is something wrong with the one I have on?” He asked.“No, Ethan. But I just want you to match with me, don't you think we will look better in a matching fit?” She pouted.Ethan smiled. “Okay, just for your sake.”“Perfect, there is a changing room back there, change quickly.” She urged. He took the suit from her and went to change into it. After changing, Ethan walked out and looked at her like asking what she thought.Kara's face glowed with a smile. “You are the hottest man alive,” she said and hugged him, then she kissed him deeply. He grabbed her ass and kissed her back, she gasped. “Ethan!” Her eyes widened.“What? You started it.” He chuckled. She laughed and claimed his lips again in a passionate kiss that lasted for over a minute.“So what now?” Ethan asked.“Now? When Ethan Vale got home, everyone had left. He quickly dressed up in a simple suit and took an extra pair to the hotel for Donald. After they were ready, they headed to York Town University for the anniversary party. It was already 8pm by the time they got there. The park was filled with luxury cars as many dignitaries from the city and beyond were present for the occasion.York Town University was the biggest university in the city, so it was expected that a lot of top socialites and successful old students attend the event. The corridor outside was swarming with people—alumni who hadn't secured tickets, local journalists, and onlookers all hoping to catch a glimpse of the city’s power players, especially the legendary Kara Lewis. As Ethan and Donald approached the checkpoint, a familiar, annoying voice cut through the air."Ethan Vale! Donald Glover! Stop right there. Neither of you is getting in."Ethan didn't even have to lo
Donation Chaos
While they were sitting at the roadside stall, the quiet buzz of the evening was interrupted by the constant pinging of Donald’s phone. Someone in the "Class of 2016" group chat had tagged both of them, and the messages were already spiraling out of control."Ethan, look at this. That idiot Philip is causing trouble again," Donald muttered, his voice slurred slightly from the beer. He slammed his bottle on the table, his eyes red with indignation. "I swear, I really want to punch that guy in the face..."Philip Vance was indeed back to his usual sarcastic self in the group chat:Philip Vance: @Ethan Vale, hey Ethan, since you were boasting earlier about knowing the 'Beauty Queen' Kara Lewis, that must mean you’re rolling in it, right? Why don’t you step up and donate a little to our alma mater?Philip Vance: Our class monitor, Marcus, and I have already put down 1000 dollars each. Surely a 'friend' of the Lewis family can beat that?It wa
Damian’s deceit
Clara Kent's penthouse was a monument to modern opulence, covered with glass and cold marble from floor to ceiling. Inside, the scent of expensive bourbon filled the air.Damian Lillard was sitting on the plush velvet sofa, swirling a glass of amber liquid when Clara walked in. She was already dressed, her hair meticulously styled, jewelry glittering under the recessed lighting. She stopped behind him, placing a hand on his shoulder.“Damian? Why are you still sitting here in your robe?” she asked, her voice tinged with a mix of confusion and impatience. “The York Town University anniversary gala starts in a few hours. This is the biggest event of the year, honey. I’ve already secured three VIP tickets; one for you, one for me, and one for Sophie. We need to start moving.”Damian didn’t turn around. He let out a long, theatrical sigh and took a slow, deliberate sip of his drink. “I don’t think I’m going, Clara. You and Sophie should go ahead without me.”

Kara pulled back slightly, her hands resting on his chest with a frown on her face. "I was starting to think you’d decided the barbecue stall was more interesting than your own wife."Ethan smiled, brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead. "Nothing is more interesting than you, Kara. I just had some things to settle."She stepped back, gesturing toward the open walk-in closet where three exquisite gowns were laid out. "Since you’re here, make yourself useful. The blue velvet, the midnight silk, or the silver lace?"Ethan walked over, his eyes scanning the fabrics. He pointed to the midnight silk. "The silk. It is more fitting for a powerful woman like you."Kara’s eyes brightened. She ran a hand over the fabric and nodded. "The silk it is." She said and then paused, realizing he was still in his casual clothes. "Why aren't you getting ready yet?""Kara, I have to take those tickets to Donald," Ethan said, turning toward the vanity.
What’s your identity?
Ethan and Donald walked away from the riverfront restaurant. They settled onto plastic stools at a roadside barbecue stall. It was 4:00 PM, and the air was thick with the savory, smoky scent of charred meat and cumin.Donald watched Ethan out of the corner of his eye as the older man casually ordered a round of skewers and two cold beers. The way Ethan moved; the absolute stillness in his posture, the lack of hesitation in his eyes, bothered Donald. It wasn't the behavior of a man who had been living on the streets."Ethan," Donald started, leaning his elbows on the greasy table. "I’ve been holding this back since this morning, but I can't keep it in anymore. Who are you, really? What exactly is your identity now?"Ethan didn't look up as he cracked open a beer. "I'm Ethan Vale. Your classmate and your brother." He said casually."Don't give me that," Donald pressed, his voice dropping into a serious, suspenseful tone. "I saw how you handled Jimmy
