‎The city lights blurred into streaks of gold and blue as the black sedan glided through the night.

‎Inside, silence reigned.

‎Adrian Voss sat in the back seat, one arm resting casually against the door, his gaze fixed on the passing skyline. The chaos he had left behind at the Voss estate already felt… distant.

‎Irrelevant.

‎“Sir,” the driver spoke carefully, eyes flicking to the rearview mirror. “The Voss Group’s stock drop, it’s already spreading across the market. News outlets will pick it up within the hour.”

‎Adrian didn’t respond immediately.

‎His fingers tapped lightly against his knee, slow and rhythmic.

‎“How much?” he asked at last.

‎“Seven percent… and falling.”

‎A faint smile touched Adrian’s lips.

‎“Not enough.”

‎The driver hesitated.

‎“Should we proceed with the second phase?”

‎Adrian’s eyes shifted, reflecting the neon lights outside.

‎“No.”

‎A pause.

‎“Let them panic first.”

‎The car slowed as it turned into a quieter part of the city.

‎Gone were the towering skyscrapers and dazzling lights.

‎Here, the streets were dim, lined with older buildings and flickering street lamps. Shadows stretched long across the pavement, and the air carried a different kind of tension.

‎“Stop here,” Adrian said.

‎The driver blinked. “Sir?”

‎Adrian was already opening the door.

‎“I’ll walk.”

‎Before the driver could protest, Adrian stepped out into the cool night air.

‎The door closed behind him with a soft click.

‎And just like that, The powerful man who had shaken an entire elite family disappeared into the shadows of the city like a ghost.

‎A sharp sound cut through the silence.

‎Footsteps.

‎Fast. Uneven.

‎Adrian’s gaze shifted slightly.

‎From the alley ahead, a figure stumbled into view.

‎A woman.

‎She was running.

‎No...fleeing.

‎Her breathing was ragged, her movements desperate as she clutched a small black case tightly to her chest.

‎Behind her—Voices.

‎“Don’t let her get away!”

‎“Catch her!”

‎Three men burst out of the alley seconds later, their expressions vicious.

‎Adrian stopped walking.

‎He didn’t move forward.

‎Didn’t step back.

‎He simply stood there.

‎Watching.

‎The woman spotted him.

‎For a split second, hope flashed across her face.

‎“Help me...!”

‎Her voice cracked.

‎But Adrian didn’t respond.

‎Didn’t move.

‎Didn’t even blink.

‎The hope in her eyes flickered… then shattered.

‎Of course.

‎Why would a stranger help her?

‎She gritted her teeth and tried to run past him but her strength gave out.

‎Her foot caught on the uneven pavement.

‎She fell hard, the case slipping from her grasp and skidding across the ground.

‎“No!”

‎One of the men lunged forward, grabbing her arm roughly and yanking her back.

‎“Got you.”

‎She struggled, panic flooding her face.

‎“Let go of me!”

‎The second man picked up the case, weighing it in his hand with a smirk.

‎“So this is what you were risking your life for?”

‎“Give it back!” she snapped, her voice trembling despite her defiance.

‎The third man cracked his knuckles, stepping closer.

‎“Boss said we take both. The case… and her.”

‎Fear flickered in her eyes.

‎But she refused to beg.

‎Adrian watched it all.

‎Silent. Uninterested.

‎Just another scene in a city filled with chaos.

‎It had nothing to do with him.

‎He could leave.

‎Walk away.

‎Disappear again.

‎Just like he always did.

‎“Please…”

‎The word slipped out before she could stop it.

‎Soft. Broken.

‎Adrian’s gaze shifted.

‎The woman wasn’t looking at him anymore.

‎Her head had lowered, her shoulders trembling slightly.

‎That one word…

‎It wasn’t loud.

‎It wasn’t dramatic.

‎But something about it... Something about the quiet desperation, made Adrian stop.

‎A faint exhale left his lips.

‎“…Troublesome.”

‎The word was barely audible.

‎But it marked a decision.

‎“Hey.”

‎The voice cut through the tension like a blade.

‎All three men froze.

‎Slowly, they turned.

‎Adrian stood a few steps away, his expression calm, almost bored.

‎“Let her go.”

‎Silence.

‎Then... Laughter.

‎“You serious?” the man holding the case sneered. “Who the hell do you think you are?”

‎Adrian didn’t answer.

‎He simply looked at him.

‎And that... That was enough to make the man’s smile falter slightly.

‎“…Get lost,” the first man snapped, tightening his grip on the woman. “This doesn’t concern you.”

‎Adrian tilted his head.

‎“You’re right.”

‎A pause.

‎Then...

‎“It doesn’t.”

‎Before they could react.

‎He moved. Fast. Too fast.

‎A blur.

‎A sharp crack echoed through the street.

‎The man holding the woman froze.

‎His eyes widened.

‎Then... He collapsed.

‎Unconscious before he even hit the ground.

‎The other two stared in shock.

‎“What the?!”

‎Adrian was already standing between them.

‎Calm. Untouched.

‎As if he had never moved at all.

‎“Last chance,” he said quietly.

‎“Leave.”

‎For a moment, No one spoke.

‎Then rage took over.

‎“You bastard!”

‎The second man lunged forward, swinging wildly.

‎Adrian sidestepped effortlessly.

‎A single strike.

‎Precise. Controlled.

‎The man dropped instantly.

‎The third hesitated.

‎Fear creeping into his expression.

‎“Y-You…”

‎Adrian’s gaze locked onto him.

‎Cold. Empty.

‎The man’s legs trembled.

‎“…Run.”

‎The word was simple.

‎But it carried something deeper.

‎Something that made his instincts scream.

‎He didn’t argue.

‎Didn’t hesitate.

‎He turned and ran.

‎Silence returned.

‎Broken only by the woman’s uneven breathing.

‎Adrian turned slightly.

‎She was still on the ground, staring at him like she couldn’t quite process what had just happened.

‎“You’re safe,” he said.

‎His voice held no warmth.

‎No comfort. Just fact.

‎She blinked, snapping out of her daze.

‎“M-My case!”

‎Adrian bent down, picking it up before she could move.

‎He glanced at it briefly.

‎Then handed it to her.

‎Their fingers brushed for a split second.

‎She flinched.

‎Not from fear.

‎But from the sudden awareness of how close he was.

‎“Th-Thank you,” she said quickly, clutching the case tightly. “I... I don’t know how to...”

‎“You don’t need to.”

‎He turned. Ready to leave.

‎“Wait!”

‎Her voice stopped him.

‎He glanced back.

‎She hesitated, then spoke, her tone more composed this time.

‎“You saved me. At least… let me know your name.”

‎A pause.

‎The streetlights flickered softly above them.

‎Adrian looked at her for a moment.

‎Then said...

‎“…Adrian.”

‎Her breath caught slightly.

‎“Adrian…”

‎She repeated it quietly, as if committing it to memory.

‎“I’m Elena.”

‎He gave a small nod.

‎Then turned again.

‎This time he didn’t stop.

‎As Adrian disappeared into the night once more, Elena remained where she was, clutching the case tightly against her chest.

‎Her heart was still racing.

‎But not from fear anymore.

‎Her gaze lingered on the empty street.

‎“…Who are you?”

‎From the shadows across the road, a black sedan remained parked.

‎The driver watched everything.

‎Silently.

‎Carefully.

‎As Adrian approached, he stepped out quickly and opened the door.

‎“Sir.”

‎Adrian got in without a word.

‎The car pulled away smoothly.

‎After a moment, the driver spoke.

‎“You intervened.”

‎Adrian leaned back, closing his eyes again.

‎“She was in the way.”

‎The driver said nothing.

‎But he knew better.

‎Because for the first time since his return, Adrian Voss had chosen to act.

‎And somewhere deep within the city.

‎The ripples of his return were only just beginning.
