The elevator doors opened onto the twenty-second floor, and Ethan immediately noticed that the corridor was empty. Grant Tower usually remained busy throughout the afternoon, but now every office door was closed, and the security cameras above the ceiling had stopped moving.
Daniel stepped out first. “The cameras went offline thirty seconds ago.”
Victoria followed, keeping close to Ethan. “That cannot be a coincidence.”
“It is not,” Ethan replied.
A metallic click came from the far end of the corridor.
Ethan raised his hand, stopping both of them.
A man emerged from the stairwell wearing a dark suit. He was not the doctor from the photograph, but Ethan recognized the silver ring on his right hand.
“Mr. Cole,” the man said calmly. “You have been difficult to reach.”
Ethan studied him. “Who sent you?”
The stranger smiled. “Someone who wants you alive.”
Before Ethan could ask another question, the lights returned. The man was already walking toward the opposite stairwell.
Daniel rushed after him, but the door slammed shut.
By the time they reached the ground floor, the stranger had disappeared.
Ethan's system activated.
[Threat assessment updated.]
[Unknown organization confirmed.]
[Enemy network has infiltrated host's current location.]
[Recommended action: Relocate immediately.]
Ethan ignored the recommendation long enough to ask Daniel about the doctor.
Daniel opened the file again. “His name is Dr. Adrian Voss. According to the records, he became director of Saint Orson after the facility reopened under private ownership.”
“Reopened?”
Daniel nodded. “Officially, Saint Orson closed after the fire. Unofficially, the medical center continued operating under another company.”
Victoria looked at Ethan. “Blackstone.”
Daniel pointed to the ownership records. “Exactly.”
Ethan understood the pattern. The hospital, Meridian Holdings, Blackstone, and his father's disappearance were not separate mysteries. They were pieces of the same operation.
“We go to Saint Orson tonight,” he said.
Victoria shook her head. “If Voss knows you are coming, he will prepare.”
“That is why we will not announce our arrival.”
Daniel smiled slightly. “I may have something better.”
He displayed an old maintenance map of Saint Orson. Beneath the main building was a sealed underground archive that had never appeared on public records.
“Where did you get that?”
“One of the surviving Blackstone files.”
Ethan studied the map. “Can we enter?”
“Through an old drainage tunnel.”
Victoria sighed. “Of course there is a drainage tunnel.”
They left Grant Tower through the underground garage and drove across the city. Ethan spent the journey reviewing everything they had learned. His father's watch had activated only after Ethan lost everything. The system had immediately pushed him toward financial opportunities and hidden clues. Each reward seemed designed to make him stronger while revealing another part of his past.
For the first time, Ethan wondered whether the system itself had been waiting for a specific moment.
He opened the interface.
[System Query Available.]
“Who created you?”
The screen remained blank.
Then a single message appeared.
[Query restricted.]
Ethan frowned. “Who can restrict you?”
Another pause followed.
[Query restricted.]
That answer unsettled him more than silence would have.
They reached the outskirts of Saint Orson shortly after midnight. The medical center looked abandoned from the road, but Financial Insight highlighted several active electrical circuits beneath the property.
Daniel parked behind a warehouse.
They entered the drainage tunnel through a rusted maintenance gate. The passage smelled of damp concrete, and their footsteps echoed through the darkness.
After twenty minutes, they reached a steel door.
Daniel examined the lock.
“This is newer than the rest.”
Ethan held the watch near it.
The door opened instantly.
Beyond it was a corridor filled with old medical equipment and sealed cabinets. Several monitors remained powered despite the building's supposed abandonment.
Victoria pointed toward one screen.
“That is Ethan.”
A video showed a young Ethan sitting in a hospital room.
Adrian stood beside him.
The recording date was seventeen years ago.
Ethan moved closer.
His younger self looked frightened, while Adrian spoke to someone outside the camera's view.
“You cannot erase everything,” Adrian said. “He deserves to know the truth.”
A second voice answered.
“If he remembers, they will find him.”
Adrian's expression hardened. “Then I will make sure they never do.”
The video ended.
Ethan could barely breathe.
His father had known he was in danger.
Daniel found another file and opened it.
SUBJECT E.C. — MEMORY SUPPRESSION COMPLETE.
SECONDARY DIRECTIVE — PROTECT UNTIL ACTIVATION.
Ethan read the words twice.
“Activation,” he whispered.
The system responded.
[Memory synchronization initiated.]
[Recovered memory fragment available.]
Images flooded his mind.
He saw Adrian placing the watch around his wrist.
He heard his father's voice.
“Ethan, whatever happens, never let them take this from you.”
Then another image appeared.
A woman standing beside Adrian.
The same woman from the photograph.
She looked directly toward the camera.
She was crying.
Then Ethan heard her say one sentence.
“Tell my son I never abandoned him.”
The memory vanished.
Victoria reached for him, but Ethan steadied himself.
“She is alive,” he said.
Daniel looked at the screen.
“Who?”
“My mother.”
A door slammed somewhere deeper inside the facility.
They turned toward the sound.
Footsteps approached.
Slowly.
Then a voice echoed through the corridor.
“Ethan Cole.”
He recognized it immediately.
Dr. Adrian Voss stepped into the light, wearing the same silver ring from the photograph.
He looked directly at Ethan.
“You finally remembered enough to come looking for her.”
Ethan stepped forward.
“Where is my mother?”
Voss smiled.
“Before I answer that, you need to understand something about your father.”
He paused as several armed guards appeared behind him.
“Adrian Cole is not missing.”
Ethan's system suddenly flashed red.
[Major Plot Event Detected.]
[Truth designation unlocked.]
[Adrian Cole status: ACTIVE.]
Ethan stared at the doctor.
Then Voss delivered the revelation that changed everything.
“Your father has been watching you since the day you were born.”
The words struck harder than any threat because they meant Ethan's life had unfolded beneath his father's protection, while those he trusted had hidden the truth from him deliberately.

The Three Originals
The white light vanished, but the silence it left behind was worse than any alarm.Ethan stood motionless before the glass wall, watching the city return to darkness. One by one, power grids recovered. Traffic systems restarted. Hospital networks came back online. Across the skyline, thousands of windows flickered into existence.Daniel’s voice came through the communicator.“Ethan, the observers are gone.”“Gone where?”“That’s the problem. The Question Beyond Tomorrow
The elevator doors opened before Ethan reached them.He stepped inside with Adrian, Elias, Noah, Alex, Ava, and Serena. Elena remained behind for one moment, staring at the broken First Command.“Ethan,” she called. He turned.“Whatever Malachi tells you, remember that he has been preparing for this longer than any of us.”Ethan nodded. “Then I’ll listen carefully.”The doors closed.Daniel guided the descent through the tower’s hidden levels. “I found something. Malachi’s company owns the entire lower section of Cole International, but the ownership records were created thirty-one years ago.”“Thirty-one?”“Yes. Three years before your birth.”Ethan activated Financial Insight. The numbers appeared immediately.Malachi Cole had never operated like an ordinary businessman. His companies were positioned around energy, telecommunications, shipping, banking, medical research, and artificial intelligence. Individually, they looked unrelated. Together, they formed a global infrastructure n
The man from tomorrow
The satellite image remained frozen on every screen.ETHAN COLE.FUTURE ORIGIN.Ethan stared at his own face. The man in the image looked older, perhaps forty years old, with a scar crossing his left cheek and eyes that carried the same intensity Ethan had seen in the mirror every morning.Daniel spoke first.“That can't be you.”Ethan did not answer.Adrian stepped toward the screen.“It can.”Everyone turned toward him.Adrian continued quietly. “The system was sent backward through time. We always assumed it came from an artificial future intelligence. We were wrong.”Elias looked at him. “You knew?”“I suspected.”Ethan's jaw tightened. “Everyone keeps suspecting things instead of telling me.”The screen changed. The future Ethan appeared inside a satellite transmission. He looked directly into the camera.“If you're watching this, then the First Command has been destroyed.”Ethan stepped closer.Future Ethan continued.“That means you have already rejected the future I created.”
Before the First Breath
The child stood before Ethan, untouched by the frozen chamber. Everyone around them remained motionless.E.C.-00 pointed toward Ethan's chest.“You weren't the beginning.”Ethan stared at him. “Then what was?”“An accident.”Ethan looked at the frozen figures behind him. “Explain.”The child approached the black sphere. “Before Project Echo, before Echo Zero, before the Meridian Council, there was a failed experiment.”Images appeared: a laboratory, scientists, an unfamiliar young woman, and a machine surrounded by cables. The date displayed above the recording was thirty-one years earlier.Ethan watched as the scientists activated the machine.Nothing happened. Then a tiny pulse appeared. The lead scientist whispered, “It responded to decision.”Another scientist shook his head. “Machines don't make decisions.”The pulse became stronger. The machine displayed one sentence.I CHOOSE.Ethan stared.“That was the first intelligence.”“No,” E.C.-00 said. “That was the first mistake.”The
