Chapter Fifty-eight

As Derek saw Alex appear, his whole demeanour shifted.

A look of fright flickered across his face, as if he had been caught doing something he shouldn't.

He abruptly dropped the phone, letting it clatter onto the cabinet.

Several tense seconds ticked by before Derek could compose himself enough to greet Alex.

“Goo- Good evening, sir.” He replied with a tight smile.

Alex's brows furrowed as he took in Derek's suspicious behaviour, but he said nothing, simply giving a curt nod before heading towards the bedroom.

As Alex ascended the stairs, his mind replayed Derek's odd reaction.

“Who was he talking to to make him flinch when he appeared?”

Halfway up, he paused, suddenly remembering he hadn't let Emily know he had arrived home safely since he considered that to now be his routine.

As he appeared in the kitchen, Derek flinched again.
