Seven: Power

The vampires were swift. Strong.

The hunters were no match for them eventually. Even Nathan and Malik weren't left out..

Malik barely stabbed two, while Nathan did nothing but stand there, behind Malik shaking.

Malik couldn't blame him. He was also afraid at this point.

It was obvious that they were going to lose the war.

Nathan breath faintly. His eyes blurry with his blood crawling into his eyes.

He was lying helplessly on the floor as he was thrown to the ground by a vampire.

Malik on the other hand barely breathe. His leg was broken and he was about beaten by a vampire.

[Store: Acquire a weapon]

[Skills section: Acquire a skill]

The screen before him kept displaying the notifications. Even after he neglected it finally.

“What strength do I have to use a weapon.” He said to himself.

As he laid on the floor, a memory flashed before him. A sad one.

He recalled how his father chased him out of the house. How Elsosa's father called him good for nothing. How she claimed her life was meaningless with him. How Don claimed he was going to die in here.

He smirked and began laughing like a maniac.

The vampires all paused, watching him with confusion.

He stood up sluggishly from the ground and wiped his bloody mouth.

“Let's do this again.” He said boldly. His voice cold as ice.

Two vampires rushed at him and then we're shot dead almost immediately.

[Weapon selected: Sniper pistol with wolf's fangs bullet.]

Malik was left alone as the vampire ran to attack Nathan too.

He shut him too.

A vampire grabbed him from the back and he struggled to get out of her group.

Soon others crowded him, mounting him to the ground.

In a blink of an eye, he stood up from the ground while pushing them all away from him.

The push was powerful that most of them hit the wall and even the ceiling.

SYSTEM: [Skill Acquired: Strength.]

Malik kept his mouth open. He sat on the ground as he could no longer use a leg.

The scene appeared like magic to him.

This is the same Nathan that couldn't shoot a gun without hesitating or staggering.

“Could he be lying about having fighting experience?” Malik wondered.

Before his very eyes kept shooting the trudging vampire army.

Even when his bullets got exhausted, he pulled out a blade from thin air.

[New weapon selected.]

Malik fainted because he thought he was dreaming. Seeing Nathan fight like a pro was overwhelming.

Nathan finished off all the vampires in the lobby and collected their fangs as Malik would have done.

There was a red door just at the end of the lobby. The screen showed that the vampire king was in there.

Nathan gulped. He was still trying to understand what had happened to him. How he was able to do these things.

Nevertheless, the only way out of the hotel was through the vampire king and by killing him.

“I'II be back for you Malik.” Nathan said while walking majestically towards the door.

Although, they was a bit of tension in him. But part of him trusted this new skill he had acquire.

He discovered it was some kind of system. And it had given him an upper hand when the previous hunters failed.

He tore the door open with his feet and hung the big blade on his shoulder.

The vampire king was seated on his bed. He wasn't bothered by Nathan's sudden presence.

He just smirked like he was mocking Nathan's intrusion.

The system chimes on, giving Nathan the details.

SYSTEM: [The vampire king. Faster than the rest vampire. Stronger too.]

[Weakness: His black heart]

He is lean with a pale skin of white. His eyes are black.

“I killed your minions. I'll do the same to you.” Nathan said to him while taking his sword from his shoulder and pointing it at him. He couldn't tell if he was being bold or being angry.

The vampire laughed mockingly. “You sound bold, but you're sweating like a scary cat.”

Nathan gnashed his teeth and gripped the sword firmly.

He stood at his distance, waiting for the vampire to attack.

His eyes were fixed on him.

The vampire stands up gently from the bed and before Nathan could blink again, he was gone. Now standing behind him. Nathan turned around, swinging his sword as fast as he could, but the vampire was fast.

Nathan gasped as he could only catch a glimpse of the vampire when he moved.

Blood flowed from his hand to the sword's blade.

At first, he thought he had gotten the vampire king at the edge of the blade. But no. It wasn't the vampire's blood but his.

His hand had a deep cut on it.

Nathan caught the blade from falling off his hand. He had been injured from the earlier fight, but somehow he failed to feel the pain until now.

If there was anything he had in mind. It's the determination to get out of the hotel alive.

Maybe he'll stop this hunt for good. Return back to his normal life, but he has to survive.

He never heard the vampire move. One second the room looks empty, the next a hand like cold iron locked around his throat and lifts him off the ground.

His back slams against the wall, hard enough to knock out the air out his lungs.

Nathan coughed out blood. His blade was a bit far from him.

If he doesn't act fast, he'll be at the mercy of the vampire king.

And the king isn't one to show mercy.

Nathan quickly touched the screen to explore the system's services. He wants to see what the system can help him with.

He was scrolling fast and couldn't read properly. The vampire was already close.

He stretched his hand and picked the sword quickly and stood up.

He swung the blade hoping to give himself distance, but the vampire king took to the air—throwing a backflip.

The next blow comes with a closed fist to Nathan's stomach.

Nathan tries to breathe. A burn like fire, spreads through his chest with every inhale.

His vision became blurry.

  • Twenty: Unending Dune

Evening came slowly over the dunes, the way it always did in a place with no mercy left to give. The sky bled from gold to a deep, bruised orange, and then to a purple so dark it looked like the color of a wound. Nathan lay half-buried in the sand, watching that color spread across the horizon, and for a moment it was almost beautiful enough to make him forget where he was. Almost. He didn't know how long ago the portal had taken him. He remembered the serpents, the screaming, Dan's voice telling him to run before the ground had simply opened beneath him and swallowed him whole. There had been no light this time, no gentle blue glow easing him through. Just darkness, and falling, and then heat — a heat so absolute it had felt like breathing fire before his eyes had even adjusted to the endless gold-brown of the dunes stretching in every direction. The forest had been hell, but at least the forest had shade. At least it had sound — the rustle of leaves, the distant calls of birds, so

  • Nineteen: The Battle In The Raid

The battle had turned into a nightmare none of them could have prepared for.The giant serpent creatures came from every direction at once, their massive bodies gliding through the trees like living shadows, silent one moment and lethal the next. Every time the hunters thought they had cornered one, another would appear behind them, fangs bared, as if the forest itself had turned against them. Screams echoed through the trees. Blood soaked into the dirt. Slowly, inevitably, the Savage Hunters were losing ground.Elena gritted her teeth and swung her sword at a serpent's arm, the blade biting deep enough to force the monster into a hissing retreat."Behind you!" Dan shouted. She ducked on instinct, and a claw sliced through the empty air where her head had been a heartbeat earlier. Not everyone was so lucky. One of the other hunters cried out as a serpent's tail coiled around his body and hauled him screaming into the darkness between the trees. His screams lasted only a few seconds

  • Eighteen: The System's Deadly Task

Nathan tumbled through the shimmering rift, the invisible portal spitting him out like discarded refuse. The system had taken him into it's belly once he activated 'proceed task'.He hit the scorching sand with a thud, rolling several meters before skidding to a halt. The air burns mercilessly hot like furnace, baking his skin instantly.Sands clung to his sweaty face. "What the hell?" he gasped, pushing himself up on trembling arms. His head hurt from the fall, and the world seem to spin in a haze of golden dunes stretching endlessly under a blinding sun. No trees, no buildings, just waves of heat-distorted horizon. It was a desert, one that seems to have no end.SYSTEM NOTIFICATION[Task: Survive the eternal sands and claim Oasis core. Failure to perform inflict great fatigue.]“This is more like a punishment than a task.” Nathan complained. He blinked hard, swiping out the sands off his faceThe words materialized in his vision like augmented reality overlays, glowing blue and

The hunters stood at alert. Their hands tightening upon their rifles, blade and other weapons they had brought for the mission.Their eyes were focused in the thick greens as they waited for the next attack. The hunters were certain that the snake creature was going to return. They could even hear creepy sounds too.The sounds seemed to be coming from all angles, making them confused, if they were more than one snake creature.Shadows pooled in hollows between the roots, and faint trails of mist clung to the low spots which gave hint at unseen streams or bogs nearby. Still yet, that wasn't enough to detect the creature. In fact, it only confused the hunters the more. The undergrowth was a chaotic labyrinth filled with ferns unfurled like emerald feathers at every step, thorny brambles snagged at boots. Many of the Savage hunters complained how this was only their first raid and wished to abandon it.If only they had a second chance right this moment, they'll reject whatever money was

  • Sixteen: The Weird Portal

They entered a large forest and the energy was in different level. Most hunters confirmed that it was mixed with both high and low energy. The hunters couldn't quite tell what demons they were going to encounter, but Nathan's system has given him a hint.[Portal of five creatures: The drastic wolves, Giant scorpions, Serpent- man, Devil bees and ghost ants].Nathan gulped. From their names, he could imagine what they were. The drastic wolves, he imagined them as rigorous wolves who would stop at nothing but to tear open their enemy. For the giant scorpion, he hope not to encounter such a creature. The smaller ones alone are enough to creep out a person, but a giant scorpion is dreadful. The name serpent-man got him puzzled for a moment. Is he a half man half snake, or his a man with snakes? He thought about it.Devil bees sounded like a killer name and ghost ants was totally unimaginable.A reminder of his fatigue appeared on the screen. He groans and ignores it. But he won't be able

  • Fifteen: Strange

The portal appeared all of a sudden, right in the center of the stadium. Reports from journalists stated that, a match was ongoing before the portal's appearance. Few footballers got stuck inside the portal eventually. They were four of them precisely. Nathan saw the hunters he had seen earlier at the Bureau still around at the premises. They had not gone into the portal. He thought some action should have began. Some other stranger hunters from different organizations were also present. A lot of them. They all seem to be engaged in an argument. Their murmurs revealed complains, detest and anger. Nathan looked around for Jeremy but could not find him nearby. Instead, he finds Elena beside him like a bodyguard. There's no point in asking her what she wants because she'll probably say: to protect him. And if he asked her to let him be, she'll probably say she has to repay back his favour first. Such a strange lady. He thought. “Hey! What is going on here?" He asked a person close by.
