CHAPTER 4 — THE FIRST WARNING

Noah walked home with the card hidden under his shirt, but the closer he got to the Lewis mansion, the more uneasy he felt. It wasn’t the normal quiet of the house, it wasn’t normal after such an event like the banquet they just had that everywhere looked so quiet , He stopped before he entered the house and studied the area. The whole mansion looked frozen, He looks everywhere but Tara car wasn’t in the driveway maybe she was spending the night at her new lover’s home .

When he entered, he understood why.

Mr. Lewis was sitting in the center of the living room like he’d been waiting for something or someone, he guessed maybe it was him and because he wanted to punish him for what happened at the Banquet but there was also two unfamiliar men in dark suits stood on either side of him. They didn’t look like drivers or regular staff. Their posture was too stiff and their eyes moved like they were trained to notice everything, it was such an awkward environment.

Noah swallowed and tried to greet them politely. “Good evening, sir. I didn’t know we had visitors.”

Mr. Lewis didn’t respond. He didn’t even blink in Noah’s direction. But the two men turned sharply to look at him, and it felt like they were here for an interrogation and to add to it , Mr Lewis was acting weirdly , he looked scared and it was even shocking that he didn’t mention what happened at the banquet . .

He tried to keep moving, hoping to slip past them without drawing more attention. But then, just as he took a step, the card vibrated against his chest. It wasn’t loud, but it was enough to jolt him.

And the men heard it.

They stiffened instantly. One of them tilted his head slightly, listening like a wolf catching a scent. “Did you hear that?” he asked the other.

Noah’s heart dropped. His palms turned cold, Did they just sense the card energy ? Was it that loud ?

He lowered his head quickly, making himself look small and harmless, the same timid son in law everyone assumed he was. “Hear what?” he asked softly. “I didn’t hear anything.”

The men still stared at him, as if trying to decide whether he was lying. Mr. Lewis finally looked up, his expression unreadable, but his eyes were sharp with interest. Dangerous interest, Was he detecting the card too ? Noah had no idea what to do .

Noah didn’t dare meet his gaze.

“Go to your room,” Mr. Lewis said calmly, though his tone carried an underlying suspicion that made Noah’s pulse spike.

“Yes, sir,” Noah murmured, keeping his head down as he climbed the stairs. The moment he turned the corner and left their sight, he broke into a run, nearly stumbling into his room and locking the door behind him.

His chest was tight with fear. He pulled out the card and stared at it. The surface was glowing faintly, almost pulsing, like it was syncing with him. He didn’t know what that meant, but something about it felt irreversible like the card had already chosen him, and there was no going back.

Hours passed with Noah sitting on his bed, listening to every noise in the mansion. He could hear the low murmurs of the men downstairs, he suspected that these men were connected to the 7 mega family , they were faces he hadn’t seen before and he knew all the Lewis’s family ally and these were new faces. their suit also had a weird crest on it .

There was a sound of footsteps moving back and forth, and then silence again. He waited for Tara’s voice, but she never came home.

“ I guess she isn’t coming back home “

When everything finally went quiet, he checked outside to see the men were leaving , they also did a very weird handshake with Mr Lewis.

“ Was that a sign greeting ?” Noah asked thinking the voice in his head might respond but there was nothing , Noah checked his phone, thinking it would distract him, but instead, a new notification blinked at the top of his screen. It had no sender name, just a strange symbol he’d never seen before: a black ring on a white background.

Confused, he tapped it.

The screen flashed, and suddenly a new interface replaced everything on his phone. It was clean like something from a government system, not a normal app.

Then the number appeared.

$9,000,000,000.00

Noah stared at the screen, unable to breathe. The zeros looked endless. He blinked once, twice, three times, waiting for the number to change or disappear. It didn’t.

Nine billion dollars .

“ Is this actual money ?” He gasped .

He felt dizzy. His hands trembled so badly he almost dropped the phone.

A new line of text appeared beneath the balance:

IDENTITY SYNC COMPLETE.

CARD HOLDER: NOAH BRENNET

ACCESS LEVEL: 1.

Before he could process that, another notification slid across the screen.

Not a message, it was an instruction.

TASK 1: DESTROY THE LEWIS FAMILY’S FINANCIAL CORE.

Noah felt the world tilt. For a moment he forgot how to breathe. “Destroy… the Lewis finances?” he whispered. “How am I supposed to do that? Why would I do that?”

His thoughts spun in every direction. He pictured Mr. Lewis downstairs, the strangers in suits, Tara’s empty room, and the card glowing on his table. Everything suddenly felt connected.

And he was in the center of it.

The screen went black the next second, wiping everything like it had never happened. The strange app disappeared. The money vanished from his screen. Only the card remained but when he checked his account, the money was there .

“ Holy shit !!!!”

Noah spent the rest of the night pacing the room, trying to calm his breathing. Every time he sat down, his mind replayed the moment the suits reacted to the card. They had sensed something. If they sensed it once, they would sense it again, he wanted to protect this card that just made him a billionaire.

He had no idea what to do.

Just after midnight, when the mansion was silent and everyone was asleep , his phone buzzed again. This time the message wasn’t encrypted. It came from an unknown number with no name or picture.

He hesitated, then opened it.

There were only four words.

“ They know you have it, They’re coming”.
