CHAPTER 8 — “THE TURNING POINT”

Noah woke up on his own and not with Tara who any of The Lewis family yelling at me , The house was quiet , Mrs Lewis had fainted when she heard the state of what was going on and Tara was with her in the hospital, Mr Lewis locked himself in his study room , trying to figure out what was going on and how he could solve it , the weight of everything Noah had done pressed lightly on his chest, it was not out of fear, but in a strange satisfaction. For the first time since the stranger handed him that mysterious card, he felt the ground shifting in his favor.

“ What a great day to be Noah Bennet “ He smiled stretching out his legs .

He spent the early hours sending the encrypted files to a secure channel, watching each document disappear into the cloud. When he hit “release,” he knew there was no turning back. By the time the city was fully awake, the storm had already begun.

News reports exploded across every screen.

“Illegal transactions uncovered.”

“Corporate fraud under investigation.”

“Authorities raid Lewis holdings.”

The Lewis empire, once untouchable, was suddenly drowning under the weight of its own secrets, everything was happening so fast and there was nothing they could do to stop it . .

Noah stepped out into the hallway just as officers marched through the The Lewis Family Mansion, The raid was on live television.

Unluckily for Tara and Mrs Lewis , they entered at the wrong time and he watched from his room , she had fainted again and when nobody paid attention to her , surprisingly, she stood up .

“ A drama queen …” He laughed .

Downstairs, he heard shouting, it sounded so frantic and desperate. Tara’s father was pacing the of living room, yelling into his phone, his voice cracking under the pressure. Papers were scattered across the table, documents he’d frantically pulled out in hope of finding an escape.

“ Are they going to arrest him or not ?” Lewis said from his hiding place watching the scene unfold

All his years of humiliation. All the insults. All the times they made him feel like nothing.

Now they were the ones collapsing.

And they had no idea he was the one pulling the strings because he was the useless son in law , it was so satisfying to watch .

Tara barged into the room a moment later, her hair was messy, her breathing uneven, she had ruined her makeup with tears . “Dad, what are they saying? Are they really taking the West Building? They can’t do that. They can’t—”

“ SHUT UP!” Mr Lewis screamed out of frustration.

“ Mr Lewis !! We are not here to arrest you _Yet , we are carrying out an investigation and if we find anything implicating…You will be faced with authorities “

The lead investigator explained and Mr Lewis whispered something to Tara and she immediately turned to Noah .

She walked toward him slowly. “Hey,” she whispered. “Can we talk? I… I just need you right now.”

Noah blinked, pretending to be confused. “Me?”

“Yes, you.” She forced a fragile smile. “Everything is falling apart. You’ve always been so patient with my family. I know we haven’t treated you well, but… maybe we can start over. Maybe we can fix things together.”

He almost laughed. Her sudden affection was so painfully transparent. But he kept his shoulders slouched and his eyes lowered, acting like the timid husband they believed he still was.

“What do you want me to do?” he asked quietly.

“Help us,” she said quickly, gripping his arm. “Dad thinks you should try talking to the investigators. They might listen to you. You’re harmless. You’re… trustworthy and you are learned in this area …”

Harmless….She thought he was harmless , It almost made him burst into laughter but he composed himself.

“ I thought you said i was a dummy “

“ Please ….”

He nodded weakly. “I’ll try.”

Her shoulders sagged in relief. She touched his hand gently, playing the role of the supportive wife. A month ago, he might have believed her. Now he only saw the act.

Later, when she went upstairs to make more frantic phone calls and with officials all over the house , he went back to his room, He pulled the card from his pocket and waited for the next instruction.

It didn’t take long.

A sharp vibration shot through his palm, followed by a cold electronic voice:

“WARNING. TARGET APPROACHING.”

Noah’s brow tightened. “Who?”

Another pulse rolled through the card.

“SILAS VULTON IS COMING FOR YOU TONIGHT.”

Silas Vulton.

The same man the card had identified as Tara’s secret lover’s handler. An operative of one of the Mega 7 families.

He slipped the card back into his jacket, straightened his posture, and walked toward the mansion with his neutral expression he always had on

Tonight, the hunt would no longer be one-sided.

Tonight… Noah would strike back.
