A high-voltage energy bolt tears through the open air, grazing my left shoulder and scorching the metal of the aircraft ramp.

I pull Ifeoma hard against my side, shielding her with my body as the black fire flares up across my skin. The world around us is completely gone. There are no more city streets, no more underground tunnels, and no more glass-walled towers. Everything is an endless, grey digital void filled with floating lines of green code and the hum of the outer overseer system.

Director Voss stands on the landing ramp of her sleek silver ship, her long silver cloak snapping in the digital wind. Her face is carved from ice, completely calm as she aims a heavy energy pistol right at my chest.

"You broke out of a low-level sandbox simulation, Simeon," Voss says, her voice carrying clearly across the empty void. "You think that makes you a god? You are just a stray data file that should have been deleted eighteen years ago."

I tighten my grip on Ifeoma, feeling the fast, steady thrum of her breathing against my jacket. Even here, at the edge of total erasure, she does not panic. Her eyes are scanning the silver aircraft, looking for a weakness, a control panel, or an escape route. That is who Ifeoma is. She does not waste time crying over a bad hand; she looks for how to cheat the dealer.

"You killed my parents," I say, my voice steady and cold. "You trapped me in a fake life just to guard your master firewall."

"They tried to give the core code to the slums," Voss replies, her finger tightening on the trigger. "Power belongs to the council. And now, your little game is over."

Before she can fire, Ifeoma moves.

With a sudden, sharp twist, she reaches into her pocket, pulls out the data drive we took from the tower, and throws it hard toward the open engine intake of Voss's ship.

"Catch," Ifeoma calls out.

Voss’s eyes widen in sudden panic. She shifts her aim away from us, firing a blast of blue energy to vaporize the drive before it hits the engine.

That single second of distraction is all I need.

I push off the floating chunk of concrete beneath my feet, launching myself through the air like a missile. My hands blaze with blinding white and black fire as I slam straight into the landing ramp of the aircraft.

The impact knocks Voss off balance. Her energy pistol clatters across the metal floor and slips over the edge into the endless grey void below.

She stumbles back, catching herself on the ship's control console. For the first time, a flash of real anger crosses her cold face. She reaches out and presses a massive red emergency button on the dashboard.

The entire ship shudders violently.

"If I cannot keep the core code, nobody can," Voss says, a twisted smile forming on her lips. "The self-destruct sequence is locked. This entire sector is going offline in thirty seconds."

Ifeoma scrambles up onto the ramp beside me, her fingers already flying across the ship's navigation screen. "Simeon, she locked the manual controls. We cannot fly out of here."

"Then we do not fly," I say.

I grab Voss by the collar of her silver cloak and shove her hard against the bulkhead. "Open the outer gateway. Now."

"There is no gateway," Voss laughs, blood pooling at the corner of her mouth. "The upper council is already sending an enforcement fleet to sweep this entire grid. You are trapped in the void."

I look past her through the front cockpit window.

Far out in the endless grey expanse, a massive wall of dark red energy is sweeping across the horizon, tearing every floating building, every server block, and every piece of digital land into absolute nothingness.

And right at the front of the red wall, leading the enforcer fleet, is a towering figure carrying a long plasma blade—someone I recognize instantly from my father's old encrypted files.

Uncle Kanmi’s older brother, General Zane.

"He is coming for the bloodline," Voss whispers, her eyes wide with sudden fear. "Zane does not want to capture you, Simeon. He wants to wipe your entire existence so the council can start over with a fresh clone."

Ifeoma grabs my arm, her face turning pale as she stares at the approaching red wall. "Simeon, look at the telemetry data on the screen. The red wall is not just a deletion virus. It is a portal back to the physical world."

"What are you saying?" I ask, turning to her.

"The simulation was never just a prison," Ifeoma says quickly, her voice urgent. "It was a bridge. If we let the red wave hit us while we hold the master drive, it will not erase us—it will throw our physical bodies straight into the high-security capital district of the real world."

I look back at the red wall rushing toward us like a tidal wave of fire and code. The distance between us and the enforcer fleet shrinks by the second. General Zane raises his massive plasma blade, pointing it straight at our ship.

"It is a massive risk," I tell her, my fingers tightening around the hot edge of my glowing hands.

"Life in the slums was a risk," Ifeoma replies, a fierce, daring smile returning to her face. "Let's go home."

I grab Ifeoma's waist with one hand and smash my other fist directly into the ship's main power core, letting the black fire pour out in a massive, blinding wave just as the red wall crashes over us.

The engines of the stolen transport scream under maximum load, tilting sharply to the side as Kade fights the flight controls to dodge a wave of automated defense drones chasing us from the ruined capital tower."Everyone strap in!" Kade calls out from the cockpit, his face pale under the harsh blue instrument lights. "The tribunal has locked down every air corridor in the city. A piercing red alarm siren cuts through the amphitheater, flashing emergency lights across the faces of the terrified council members.I do not look back at General Zane or the white-armored tribunal soldiers blocking the exit. My eyes stay fixed on the giant main screen where Ifeoma is typing at incredible speed. The orbital defense system countdown ticks down rapidly, and the crosshairs on the display lock directly onto our position inside the tower."They are routing the planetary strike weapon right to this building," Ifeoma says, her voice completely steady even as her fingers dance across the holographic keyboard. "The orbital cannon takes thirty seconds to charge. If we do not break out of this floor right now, we will be vaporized along with every council member in this room."Zane lowers his plasma blade, a

A loud gasp echoes through the grand amphitheater as every high council member turns their head toward the open bronze doors.General Zane stops mid-sentence, his heavy plasma blade hovering in the air. His grey eyes widen in pure disbelief as he looks past the rows of seated leaders and sees me standing at the entrance. My hands burn with bright, roaring black fire, casting harsh shadows across the polished marble floor."How are you out of the containment cell?" Zane demands, his voice booming across the massive hall. "The security grid should have fried your nervous system!"I step forward into the room, my boots striking the floor with a heavy, deliberate sound. "Your security grid is built on lies, Zane. Just like your entire council."Beside me, Ifeoma moves fast.

Across from me, Ifeoma sits on a steel crate, her face pale in the dim light, yet her eyes remain sharp and completely focused."Do not waste your energy fighting the bars directly," Ifeoma says quietly, her voice steady. "They are hooked straight into the tower's main power grid. Every time you touch them, the system drains your strength."I push myself up to my feet, rubbing my stinging palms. "We cannot just sit here and wait for General Zane to strip our code. In one hour, the high council convenes, and they will wipe out the enti
