A heavy, smoking missile streaks past our transport ship, missing our hull by inches and blowing up a nearby cloud of floating debris into a million burning pieces.

I pull Ifeoma hard against the metal floor of the cargo bay as Kade slams the heavy rear hatch shut with a loud, ringing crash. The engines of the stolen transport scream under maximum load, tilting sharply to the side as Kade fights the flight controls to dodge a wave of automated defense drones chasing us from the ruined capital tower.

"Everyone strap in!" Kade calls out from the cockpit, his face pale under the harsh blue instrument lights. "The tribunal has locked down every air corridor in the city. If we get hit by another anti-air missile, we turn into dust."

I look down at Ifeoma. She is already checking the glowing backup drive she pulled from the amphitheater terminal, her fingers moving fast over her portable screen. Despite the explosions rocking our ship and the smoke filling the cabin, she looks completely calm, her mind racing ahead to the next tactical move.

"The data upload went through to every sector before the tower went down," Ifeoma says, looking up at me with a sharp, victorious glint in her eyes. "The slums have received the files on the fake world architecture. People are marching on the outer gates right now. General Zane and the supreme council have lost total control of the public narrative."

"Good," I say, wiping a streak of soot from my forehead. "They wanted to keep us trapped in a cage of lies. Now they get to watch their entire empire burn down from the outside."

Zara Bello steps out from the cockpit walkway, holding a pair of heavy tactical binoculars. She presses her back against the vibrating bulkhead, scanning the dark sky behind us. "Do not celebrate too early, Simeon. The tribunal is not just sending drones. Look at the radar."

I stand up, steadying myself against the wall as the ship banks hard to the left, and look over her shoulder at the central tracking monitor.

Three massive red blips are moving toward us at terrifying speed, closing the distance from the high-security military zone. They are heavy gunships bearing the insignia of the supreme enforcer fleet, led by a massive flagship commanded directly by General Zane's personal tactical unit.

"They tracked our signal through the backup drive," Zara Bello says, her voice dropping into a cold, serious tone. "Zane survived the collapse of the amphitheater. And he is bringing a full fleet to finish us off before we can reach the lower rebellion base."

Kade shouts from the front seat. "We are coming up on the sector four partition wall! If we can jump into the underground tunnel network, we can lose them in the old subway tubes!"

"Do it!" I order.

The transport dives steeply, plunging down out of the open sky toward a rusted metal service hatch hidden deep beneath the industrial slums. The heavy steel doors of the underground entrance are blocked by a thick barricade of rusted shipping containers and scrap metal.

"Kade, the gate is sealed!" Ifeoma warns, leaning over the cockpit console. "If you do not pull up, we will crash right into the barricade!"

"I am not pulling up," Kade replies through gritted teeth, pushing the throttle all the way forward.

Our ship roars downward like a falling meteor. Right before we hit the steel containers, a loud shout echoes from the ground below. Heavy welding torches flare up, and the center of the barricade cuts open, swinging outward just in time to let our ship slide through into the dark underground tunnel.

Kade slams on the landing thrusters, bringing the transport down hard onto the concrete floor of a massive, hidden subterranean bunker.

The rear cargo ramp immediately opens with a heavy hiss. Cool, damp air rushes into the cabin, carrying the sound of hundreds of cheering men and women.

We step off the ramp into a vast underground chamber lit by flickering emergency lamps and glowing computer screens. Scores of resistance fighters, armed with modified rifles and wearing tactical gear, crowd around the landing platform. At their head stands an older man with silver hair and a scarred cheek, holding a heavy communications radio.

"You actually made it out of the capital tower," the old man says, stepping forward as he looks at me. He lowers his radio, a deep respect in his weathered eyes. "Word of your broadcast is spreading through every tunnel in the slums. You just sparked a full revolution, Simeon."

I nod, resting my hand on my side where the black fire hums beneath my skin, ready for whatever comes next. "We did not just spark a revolution. We are going to take the entire council down."

Before anyone can answer, a deafening explosion echoes from the surface above us.

The concrete ceiling of the bunker shakes violently, raining dust and small rocks down onto the crowd. Sirens begin to wail from the entrance tunnel, and the red emergency lights flash on all across the underground base.

Kade runs back toward the open ramp, staring up at the security monitor mounted on the wall. His face goes completely white.

"Simeon... they found us," Kade shouts over the alarms. "General Zane didn't just send gunships. They deployed the heavy orbital breaching units right above the bunker. The entire ceiling is about to cave in."

I look at Ifeoma, then at Zara Bello and the assembled resistance fighters. We thought we had escaped the trap, but the enemy has already closed the door.

From the ceiling above, the concrete begins to fracture in a spiderweb pattern, glowing with the bright, lethal heat of an incoming plasma charge.

A massive crack splits the concrete ceiling right down the middle, showering the crowded bunker with sharp gray rocks and choking dust.I grab Ifeoma by the waist and pull her out of the path of a falling steel beam that slams into the floor where she was standing a second ago. The alarms are blaring so loud they drown out the shouts of the resistance fighters scrambling for cover around us."The breaching unit has cut through the main vault!" Kade calls out, running over from the communication console with a rifle in his hands. "Zane’s elite troops are dropping through the breach right now!"Before anyone can fire a shot, a blinding white flash tears through the center of the bunker roof. Chunks of metal and concrete blow outward in all directions as three heavy thermal pods drop straight down from the surface, landing hard on the concrete floor with deafening metallic crashes. The hatch of the middle pod blows off with a loud pop, and armed enforcers in sleek white armor pour out, t

  • The Orbital Target

A piercing red alarm siren cuts through the amphitheater, flashing emergency lights across the faces of the terrified council members.I do not look back at General Zane or the white-armored tribunal soldiers blocking the exit. My eyes stay fixed on the giant main screen where Ifeoma is typing at incredible speed. The orbital defense system countdown ticks down rapidly, and the crosshairs on the display lock directly onto our position inside the tower."They are routing the planetary strike weapon right to this building," Ifeoma says, her voice completely steady even as her fingers dance across the holographic keyboard. "The orbital cannon takes thirty seconds to charge. If we do not break out of this floor right now, we will be vaporized along with every council member in this room."Zane lowers his plasma blade, a

  • The Amphitheater Trap

A loud gasp echoes through the grand amphitheater as every high council member turns their head toward the open bronze doors.General Zane stops mid-sentence, his heavy plasma blade hovering in the air. His grey eyes widen in pure disbelief as he looks past the rows of seated leaders and sees me standing at the entrance. My hands burn with bright, roaring black fire, casting harsh shadows across the polished marble floor."How are you out of the containment cell?" Zane demands, his voice booming across the massive hall. "The security grid should have fried your nervous system!"I step forward into the room, my boots striking the floor with a heavy, deliberate sound. "Your security grid is built on lies, Zane. Just like your entire council."Beside me, Ifeoma moves fast.

  • The Price of Freedom

A high-voltage spark snaps against the blue energy bars, stinging my skin and lighting up the dark, freezing sub-level cell.I press my hands against the glowing barrier, but the electric shock throws me backward onto the cold metal floor. The smell of burnt ozone fills the small cage. Across from me, Ifeoma sits on a steel crate, her face pale in the dim light, yet her eyes remain sharp and completely focused."Do not waste your energy fighting the bars directly," Ifeoma says quietly, her voice steady. "They are hooked straight into the tower's main power grid. Every time you touch them, the system drains your strength."I push myself up to my feet, rubbing my stinging palms. "We cannot just sit here and wait for General Zane to strip our code. In one hour, the high council convenes, and they will wipe out the enti

A blinding flash of white light tears through my eyes, and the deafening roar of the digital void vanishes into complete silence.I hit the cold, hard steel floor hard, the breath knocking completely out of my lungs. The air here does not smell like ozone, burnt plastic, or rusted pipes. It smells like sharp winter frost, high-grade fuel, and polished chrome. We are no longer inside the simulation sandbox, and we are no longer floating in the grey digital code of the upper sector. We are inside the real world."Simeon," Ifeoma coughs, rolling over onto her side beside me. She pushes herself up on her hands, shaking her head as she tries to clear her vision. Her sharp eyes immediately scan our surroundings. "We made it through the portal bridge."I push myself up to my fe
