“What do I do? How do I avoid drinking this?” he thought to himself inwardly, but in reality, he was talking to that entity in his eye, hoping it would give him a useful answer, but none came.

The smell was revolting; it had the scent of rotten fish. He really felt like he would die if he drank this liquid.

Kennedy clapped his hands and answered Vandal’s unspoken fears. “Mawrot Essence is my personal creation. It’s lots of fun. You are going to do whatever I say while you decay from the inside until you vomit your brain and die.”

“Why should I drink this?” Vandal finally asked.

“Well, if you drink it, you will die later… but if you don’t… you will die now,” Kennedy replied slowly.

Vandal hesitated. After all his self-promises to become stronger, he was going to die like this? Used and killed by a strange poison?

“What’s wrong? Huh? You will be super strong, I promise you. With your rich reserves of resonance energy and your sturdy, healthy body, you will be very useful to me in a lot of ways,” Kennedy grinned madly.

Vandal frantically tried to think of a plan. He finally steeled his resolve; he had no other choice.

He drank the liquid quickly without hesitation.

“Nice, that was very good. I am glad I didn’t have to force you to drink it.” Kennedy couldn’t contain his excitement; he held Vandal’s cheeks. “Good boy.”

A chill ran up Vandal’s spine as he stared into Kennedy’s crazed eyes, but a side of him was still calmly assessing his predicament and thinking of a way to survive and take revenge on these bastards for all they did to him. It was as if his mind had split into two personalities.

He stared at their adult faces; he wanted to remember every inch of how they looked.

As the Mawrot Essence went down into his stomach, Vandal could feel a dull pain spreading inside. It passed straight through the resonance energy he used to try to protect his gut and stomach as if it never existed and landed smoothly on his internal organs.

The pain inside his body gradually grew stronger.

“This Mawrot Essence is potent. It works faster in people that have resonance energy. A normal person will lose his mind in three days, then become as strong as two men before dying two days later… but an Echo Warrior could go mad that same day and become extremely strong, only to die the next day or two days later,” Kennedy narrowed his eyes.

“You know why I am telling you all this?”

“...No…” Vandal replied with much effort; his stomach was already twisting into a knot.

“So you will know exactly how you will die. You will be my second test subject with resonance energy that I am testing on.”

At this point, Vandal was already on the ground. His resonance energy seemed to make the poison even more powerful; it swiftly wreaked havoc on his tissues and organs.

Kennedy, however, paid no heed to the small figure writhing in pain on the ground.

“Emeka, keep watch over him and bind him with extra chains around that tree over there,” he gestured toward a tree behind Emeka.

“Yes, boss.”

“Good. We will check on him at this time tomorrow night.” Emeka nodded. He glanced at Vandal in satisfaction and yanked the chain toward himself, dragging Vandal’s twitching body toward the tree and chaining him securely to the trunk.

“Hehehe, your good days have come to an end!” Emeka laughed loudly, showing his teeth. He suddenly felt quite relaxed when he thought Vandal would die in no time, and a heavy burden dropped from his heart.

Vandal lowered his head with an icy glint in his eyes.

“You will pay for this, I promise you,” he spoke calmly in spite of the rising pain that felt like tens of millions of soldier ants were chewing at his stomach and gut in order to compete for territory.

Crack!

The whip lashed Vandal’s chest, slicing deeply into his flesh and drawing blood.

“Say that again… I dare you,” Emeka said with glee.

“You will die first…”

Emeka burst into laughter. This was ridiculous…a mere child giving him death threats? He was stupid to have even felt any ounce of fear toward a small boy.

“I don’t want to disfigure you yet… I want you in good condition so the boss can use you well. Then I will disfigure you as much as I want before killing you,” he replied.

The resonance energy in the lower part of his belly was being consumed rapidly; the poison grew more virulent as time passed.

“What is this feeling? It’s… it’s my eye… it’s awakened,” Vandal could feel it.

Suddenly, his mind felt as if it were being sucked into a black hole.

“Where am I?” He noticed his surroundings were pitch black, but there was a space within the darkness where it seemed like he could see outward from.

He also noticed sickly green veins on the walls, but then he felt a more powerful, dark, ancient presence. That presence was so domineering that its pressure began to cause the walls to crack and break apart in many places. The green veins ruptured, and an acidic liquid was sucked out continuously by a black hole he could not see.

As the walls were being ripped open, the acidic substance followed a specific path, which was the middle of this pitch-black world he was standing in.

After three hours of draining, the resonance energy in his body had been consumed by one-third and was continuously depleting. The effects of the Mawrot Essence did not weaken; instead, they increased.

The black hole presence he felt, rather than saw, seemed to increase in size, and as it did, the suction effect multiplied several-fold, ripping off chunks of the sickly green wall.

“My entire body feels like I am being burnt alive,” Vandal gritted his teeth in pain as waves of agony attacked his body.

Just as he felt he was about to die, he sensed a sudden change in the corroded part of his gut.

The cells there came back to life! A strange power wove through the corroded areas as if an invisible hand were sewing up his gut and stomach.

"Your mother didn't even come to see you off," Vandal whispered into Sabine's ear, his voice low enough that it was swallowed by the noise around them. His gaze drifted briefly across the crowd, as if expecting Elder Clara to appear at the last moment, but there was no sign of her. The absence lingered more than it should have. Sabine did not bother to look. She adjusted the strap on her wrist and gave a small shrug. "I already knew she wouldn't come. I don't care if she does." "Hmph." Yazmeen's lips pressed into a thin line as she noticed Vandal and Sabine still talking. Her eyes lingered a moment longer than necessary before she turned away. "You really need to stop paying attention to that boy, Yazz," Jaclynn said, already tugging at her arm. "Let's go." Without waiting for a response, she pulled Yazmeen along, and the two of them stepped into the portal together. One by one, the others followed, their figures swallowed by the white glow. When it was Vandal's turn, the li

"Look! I knew he was a swindler!" Seeing the man's vanishing steps, Sabine angrily stamped her feet.Vandal was not angry. On the contrary, he was still intrigued by the object. There is something special about this disc. After they bought the provisions and medicines and returned home, Sabine was frowning. However, as soon as they entered his room in the enforcer courtyard section, she was no longer angry or pouting. Instead, a sweet smile hung on her face."Oi, did you figure out how to use it?" Sabine asked, still smiling."So you were acting just now."Seeing the strange change in Sabine, Vandal figured out that she had been acting intentionally. She had clearly discovered his intentions."If you had said nothing and given him the fifty denamis, that man would certainly have tried to raise the price. If I did not oppose you, how would you get it so easily?""That's right. You are very smart," Vandal said. He had already discovered the use of the disc. He was able to read the meani

"Stay away from him. He doesn't need distractions like you," Sabine said, stepping slightly forward, her body angling in front of Vandal as if to shield him. Yazmeen's brows lifted in mild surprise, but it quickly melted into amusement as she tapped her chin lightly and tilted her head, as though she had just realized something profound. "Oh... I see now. No wonder you're not a distraction to him." The words landed harder than they sounded, and Sabine's breath quickened as her fingers curled tightly at her sides until her knuckles lost their color. A faint tremor ran through her arms, and though she had been angry before, it had never felt like this, never like something tightening around her chest. "I think that's enough," Vandal said, his voice cutting through the tension before it could snap. Yazmeen turned to him, the playful glint still lingering in her eyes as he met her gaze steadily. "Thank you for the offer, but I'll have to decline." For a brief moment, something

"Shit... how did that bird hear me?"A bead of sweat slid down Vandal's spine, cold against his skin."Oh? No one wants to speak?" Elder Yung's voice cut through the hall, sharp as a blade."Elder, I don't think..." Mael began."Stay out of this, Mael." Yung didn't even look at him. "You know the rules of this sect. An insult to an elder is no small matter. If order crumbles in the smallest things, chaos will devour the greatest."Silence clamped down on the room."I want everyone to stand still.""Proud," Yung called, tilting his head toward the black-feathered crow perched nearby. "Find the one who insulted me."Vandal's pulse spiked.*Proud? That ridiculous bird has a name?*His fingers twitched at his sides. Think. Think. I can't run. Elder Yung’s shadow fell across the polished floor before he did. Vandal felt Mael go very still beside him, a soldier’s stillness, the kind that meant pay attention, this matters. The elder’s right eye twitched the moment his gaze landed on Vandal. The memory of the boy once calling him useless flashed behind his eyes, and something in his jaw tightened at the sight of that same disciple now standing among the enforcers, the highest and most respected rank in the sect.“You will be protecting descendants of the holy fathers,” Yung said. No greeting. No preamble. “No harm comes to them. They seek to gain experience with this expedition and will meet you three days from now.”This annoying brat, Yung thought, holding Vandal’s gaze. I hope you die in this expedition.“And if the Resonance Council attacks us for being there?” Vandal asked before the elder could continue. “Are we allowed to kill them, or just die politely?”Yung’s water glass stopped halfway to his mouth.Behind him, one

“You bastard! You dared to use underhanded methods to nearly kill me and now you have the audacity to join the enforcers!” the broad-shouldered youth snarled. “You have no virtue and no abilities. That is why you kept rushing me like a coward.”“Hutrar, shut up!” Sabine stepped forward, her voice rising. “I literally had to beg him to stop hitting you or you would have died!”Vandal gently pulled Sabine behind him. A calm smile touched his lips as he stared straight at Hutrar. “Let him finish. What do you want to do about it? Yes, I am now a member of the enforcers. So what?”“You lost fair and square,” Vandal continued, his tone steady. “And you tried to kill me first. You literally tried to fry me with your flames.”“You are not worthy to join the enforcers!” Hutrar bellowed.Jaden stepped in beside him, his voice dripping with poison. “Hutrar is right. You are not worthy. The test clearly showed you have no proper resonance energy and your talent is tier zero.”Jaden swept his gaze
