Minister Hemingway went on his way to the president’s office immediately. He wanted to see if he could convince him after he had been turned down by Sir Herbert who was already convinced that the president wouldn’t withdraw his order.

“Good day, President Humphrey,” Hemingway greeted.

“Good day, Minister. You can have your seat. I hope there is no problem.”

“Not at all. It is concerning Monk Pat. I got some info from Mr Darlington enquiring about him and I haven’t given him feedback yet. I did plead you get in touch with him so you can discuss better concerning this situation.”

“Which situation?”

“Concerning the monk instead of locking him up in the prison.”

“Do you want to join him?” Humphrey asked.

“No. that’s not what I mean.”

“Get out of my office or I ordered the security to take you to join him.”

Minister Hemingway went on his toe gently and paced out of the office dumbfounded. President Humphrey had a number of times likened to a dictator who had turned a blind eye to those who brought him to position. He was known for his shrewdness which he inherited from his father who was a former Army commander. Everyone thought Humphrey was a changed person but he used his wealth to blindfold the folks including the minister who brought him out and convince the people to vote for him. He didn’t have the intention to allow democracy just like his father until his death.

Humphrey had become a torn in the flesh since he ascend the position as the president of Cartens. The mayor knew what he had turn into which made him to turn the minister of information to his close compatriot whom he depended on for information. Minister Hemingway was about to enter his office when his phone began to ring. It was a call from Mr Darlington.

“How is the monk?” Mr Darlington asked.

“He has been locked up by the president.”

“Why?”

“He was asked to disclose to the whereabouts of the mother of the baby whom he prophecy that would give birth to the child coming to the world with a dark fate and the monk responded that he didn’t know where the mother lived. I was there to ask him myself which he responded that the gods hasn’t told him to disclose it.”

“Wow!” Mr Darlington was short of words.

He couldn’t give a response having seen the true colour of Humphrey and he thanked the minister then put an end to the conversation. He wasn’t interested in visiting the president due to his recent hubris but with the monk one of the greatest brain of the Vatice society being locked up in the UltraDope, it would cause a lot of chaos soon in Vatice once the people learnt about it and he wouldn’t want that to happen.

He booked took his flight to the capital city immediately and booked an appointment with the president. Humphrey knew he had come because of the Monk and he wasn’t ready to discharge him until the mother of the child was disclosed. They exchanged pleasantries at the afternoon when he touched down there.

“President Humphrey. Monk Pat is the voice of the local inhabitants of Vatice and the people wouldn’t take it lightly if they find out that he had been locked up in the prison,” Mr Darlington said.

“Ok. If that’s the case. The monk will be brought of out the prison and once he gives a response to my question. I will release him.”

Mr Darlington went mute and he nodded his head gently. He knew there wasn’t a chance according to what the minister told him. They walked out to the entrance after he ordered the security men to bring the monk down to his office. He was looking at him from distance as he was being manhandled and drawn like a prisoner of war.

“Monk Pat, welcome. Mr Darlington is here on your behalf. He wants your release. Now, tell me where the mother of the child going to be born with the dark fate is,” Humphrey said slowly.

“I haven't been told that. When I am told. I will let you know,” the monk retorted

“Then you will remain in the prison until your gods disclose it to you. If the gods want you out, they will tell you. Take him back into the prison and keep a close eyes on him.”

President Humphrey turned around and headed back into his office. Mr Darlington was awestruck as he was left on the stand. He was shaking his head as the monk was being drawn back to the prison. He was short of words and didn’t know what to do. The minister of information was at a distance peeking at everything that was going on.

Mr Darlington was heartbroken. He had the thought of visiting minister Hemingway initially but his strength couldn’t anymore. As he was on his way to the car park where the security men he came with were told to wait for him, Hemingway met him on the way.

“How was it?” Hemingway asked.

Mr Darlington heard the familiar voice from the corridor, his heart was already carried away with thought and his head tucked. He panicked lifting his head.

“Minister Hemingway. I am sorry. I ought to visit your office before leaving but I couldn’t because I was left heartbroken by the act depicts by the president. I was utterly heartbroken.”

“I understand. No change of heart right?”

“At all. He insisted that he will be released once he disclosed the whereabouts of the mother of the baby coming to the world with a dark fate.”

Hemingway shook his head. Although, he didn’t know that much about the Monk but seeing Mr Darlington concerned about him, he knew he must be a very important and prominent figure in the city of Vatice. When the Mr Darlingon returned to Vatice, there was already rumours that Monk Pat had been apprehended a few minutes after the Mr Darlington touched down in his office, a news came to him.

“People have been protesting demanding for Monk Pat where about.”

“Protesting?” Mr Darlington asked.

“Yes. His followers has been disseminating the information about his disappearance which was authored by the government.”

Mr Darlington exhaled and say gently clasping his palms together.
