The chamber pulsed with light and silence.

Dozens of Watchers stood in rows, their silver eyes glowing like cold moons, their masks blank and pitiless. Blades gleamed in their hands, curved and sharp, each one etched with runes that shimmered faintly as if alive.

Kael stood at the center, cloak spreading like the wings of a shadow, crimson eyes burning against the pale silver glow. His smirk curved, cruel and unshaken.

Lira stretched, her blades twirling lazily in her hands. “So many faces,” she purred, her voice echoing off the stone. “All the same. It’s almost… boring.”

The thief cursed softly, his grip on his knife white-knuckled. The four survivors pressed together, trembling, but their fear no longer paralyzed them. They had bled before. They had killed before. They would not flee.

Only the boy was still. His dark eyes burned as they traced the glowing runes that circled the chamber, as if he alone could see the chains that bound these masked figures to their eternal oath.

The city’s silence was a living thing. When Kael led them from the ruin of the warehouse, the streets seemed to recoil. Shutters slammed before they passed. Candles were snuffed out. Even the drunks who usually staggered along the alleys were gone, vanished as though the earth itself had swallowed them.It pleased him. Fear spread faster than fire. The boy walked in front, head cocked, his movements dreamlike. He moved without hesitation, guiding them through winding streets, down narrow alleys slick with damp, across bridges where the river stank of rot. His bare feet never faltered, never slowed. His whispers, too low to catch, drifted back to them like scraps of a forgotten prayer.Kael studied him as they walked. Small. Frail. Yet the city’s breath bent around him, as if he alone could hear its pulse. Kael’s smirk deepened. A useful tool. Or perhaps something more dangerous. He would find out.Behind Kael, the group staggered like shadows. The thief limped heavily, every step a gr

  • Chapter 26: Ashes and Rumors

The warehouse had burned through the night.By morning, it was little more than a blackened skeleton—walls collapsed, beams jutting like the ribs of a corpse. Ash and blood clung to every stone, and the stench of charred flesh lingered in the air, heavy and inescapable.Inside the ruin, silence reigned.Kael sat on a shattered crate, the Devil’s Dagger resting across his knees. His cloak was scorched, his chest still marked with the shallow cut of a Watcher’s blade, but his posture was relaxed, almost regal. His crimson aura flickered faintly around him, steady and patient, as if even the embers of his power refused to die.In his hand, the corrupted shard pulsed. Its silver surface was no longer pure; crimson veins crawled across it, glowing with a steady heartbeat. Each pulse sent a thrum through Kael’s aura, feeding him, strengthening him.[Shard Resonance: +35% Aura Output.]Kael turned it slowly between his fingers. So you grow fatter on slaughter. Just like me.Around him, the s

  • Chapter 25: Retaliation

The city did not sleep. From the crumbling spires of the old temple to the alleys soaked in shadow, people whispered of what they had seen the night before. Some swore the sky had bled. Others claimed the ruins screamed like a dying beast. Children cried as dogs barked into the night, and even the drunks who usually filled the taverns stayed sober enough to bolt their doors.Every whisper carried one name.Kael.The Devil’s Heir.It was only a rumor, but rumors had weight. And in this city, weight became truth.Inside a ruined warehouse on the city’s edge, the man at the heart of the storm stood silent, turning a shard of silver and crimson in his hand. The corrupted fragment of the Moonlit Seal pulsed like a beating heart. Thin crimson veins crawled across its surface, glowing faintly in rhythm with his own aura. The survivors kept their distance.Lira sat on a broken chair, grinning despite the gash across her arm. She tossed her dagger into the air again and again, catching it with

  • Chapter 24: Shards of the Moon

The sanctum lay in ruins.Dust drifted through the air like ash after a fire, settling over cracked pillars and shattered masks. Silver blood pooled in streaks across the stone floor, glowing faintly even as it cooled. The Watchers who still lived lay writhing, their oaths broken, their masks shattered, their voices whispering fragments of vows that no longer bound them.Kael stood at the center, his crimson aura wrapping him like a crown of shadows. The Devil’s Dagger dripped silver ichor, its runes pulsing as if feeding on the sanctum’s death. His smirk curved faintly as he looked up at the remains of the moon above. The great stone carving had cracked wide, a third of it broken loose and smashed against the floor. Chains that had once bound it now hung broken, swaying faintly in the settling silence. And amid the rubble, fragments glowed with a light unlike ordinary stone. The System stirred.[Ding! The ashes of the dead still clung to the night air.Kael walked alone through the alleys, his cloak dragging across wet stone, his crimson eyes glowing faintly in the dark. The city had quieted since the slaughter, but whispers never truly stopped. He could feel them—the hushed breaths of beggars, the mutter of drunkards, the frantic silence of guards too afraid to speak his name.Fear was spreading. But so was something else. Hunger. Curiosity. Hope twisted into terror. And in that silence, Kael felt it. A pulse. A faint echo left behind by the Watcher’s corpse he had broken. The System had shown him the Oath. Now the Oath pulled at him, a thread of silver woven through the night.[Ding!
