"OH NO!" Tessa screamed, her eyes wide with fear.
“What have you done?" She shook, the tears finally falling from her eyes.. I tipped my chin and stared down at the screaming woman who had fallen to the ground. “Emma! Emma! I am sorry." She rushed to her mother's side but got pushed off as the woman resumed crying. “Apologize to her quickly!" She hissed between her teeth, looking like she was about to open the ground and bury herself in. “No." I blurted. “What?" Her jaw dropped. My ears twitched and I picked up the sounds of running feet. She grabbed my hand, her face getting drained of color and she swallowed. “Please Draven. Apologize to her now. Please." She pleaded, her eyes getting covered in a thin sheen of tears again. Looking at her mother who was already on the floor, rolling like her life depended on it, Tessa bowed, her head almost touching her legs. “We are sorry, Emma." Her loud voice cracked. She tugged on my hand but I stood tall and refused to bow even when I felt the presence of Conrad and a few other strangers in the study. “What just happened?" Conrad thundered as he hurried towards his wife. She sat up immediately and pointed towards me. “He…he struck me." She whined and the gasps that followed irritated me. “What did you just say?" He asked, turning to look at me. Instead of answering him, she resumed crying, squeezing out tears from her dry eyes. “What did you do to her?" He asked slowly. I didn't answer, I only stared at him even as he let go of his wife and marched towards me. “We are sorry. We apologize." Tessa cried, moving to stand in front of me, her arms spread wide to shield me. I raised a brow at her bravery. “Get out of my way!" He snarled at her. Gently tapping her shoulder, I nodded at her when she turned to look at me. “Apologize to Emma at this moment." He barked, pointing at the floor. “No." “Draven!" Tessa cried but I trained my eyes on Conrad's instead. What would he do? “What is going on here?" Another voice boomed from the entrance. I looked towards the blocked door to see the visitors part away for a pot bellied man to walk through accompanied by a younger version of him. “His Excellence, Mr. Maximus!" Conrad shouted his greeting, bowing almost immediately after. I raised a brow. His Excellence? “What is going on here?" The man repeated forcefully, looking at Emma on the floor before turning to look at me. “This son of a gun struck my wife!" “Mum!" Blair cried, rushing into the room and towards her mother on the floor. “Who is he?" The younger man asked, eyeing me suspiciously. “Dax. That lunatic there is Tessa's husband." Blair responded from where she knelt. “Pfft!" Dax burst into a ridiculous laughter, the people around him joining in. “You mean this thing here is Tessa's husband?" He eyed me from head to toe as he stepped right in front of his pot bellied father. I expected Tessa to turn away from me in shame, but she edged closer, taking my hands in hers even as she trembled. "Yes.” She declared loudly for all to hear, her voice cracking with fear. "He is my husband. I married him!” She said, stunning everyone including me. Conrad was the first to snap out of it. “Now that he has struck your mother, what are you going to do about it, you ungrateful child?" Conrad hissed. “Are you going to defend that disabled shameless beggar?" Blair cried from where she knelt close to the still crying Emma. I clenched my teeth at the tag. “You married that…thing?” Dax huffed, his nose scrunched up in disgust. "Yes, she did. What are you going to do about it?” I asked, pushing Tessa behind and hobbling forward. "Step back son.” The pot bellied governor panted as he walked towards me, staring at my swollen eyes. "How dare a beggar like you raise your hand on my in-law to be?” He stopped a few inches away from me, his pot belly nudging me. "I. am. no. beggar.” I hissed, my lips twitching from anger. "Apologize to her this instant or risk being beaten.” He demanded authoritatively, his double chin shaking. "I won't.” I spat back. "How dare you?” He boomed and raised his fat hand to strike me but I held it mid-air causing everyone to freeze. "Draven! What do you think you are doing?" Tessa whisper-shouted behind me, pinching my shirt and missing my skin by an inch. “What do you think you are doing? Let me go this instant!" He roared, his tiny eyes widening. "Get her!” His son bellowed behind him and soon muscular men broke in and grabbed Tessa from behind me. "Let my dad go and receive your punishment or watch your wife get beaten to pulp.” I glared at him, clutching my cane as I still held on to his father's hand. I could feel my power surge, my hands were beginning to tremble and my deformed leg began to strengthen as I bared my teeth. I will show them who the true master was. "Draven. No!” Tessa yelled from where she stood, pure terror in her eyes like she knew what was about to happen. But I didn't listen, I let out a roar and was about to attack the pot bellied governor when Tessa let out a loud scream.Latest Chapter
I love my wife
“Tessa?" I limped towards her ready to understand what just happened when the door pushed open. "There you are.” An unpleasant voice said.I whirled around to see the Governor's wife inside, she had her hands clutching her purse as she stared down at Tessa with pure disgust in her eyes. "Good day Ma.” I raised my brow at Tessa's sudden shaky voice. Turning back to face her, I bit my inner cheek at the way she was bent at the waist, her hands clutching each other nervously behind her. "And you are?” I turned back to the woman with a cold stare. "Draven.” She raised a brow at me."Draven Dexter.” I completed, hating the fact that she looked superior. "You aren't from City X, are you?” She moved slowly to the couch Blair got up from minutes ago."No.” I hissed between my teeth. What does she want here? "I heard you got married to our Tessa.” She smirked, her eyes swiftly landing on Tessa's still bowed frame before staring straight into my eyes. "Yes.” "And that you are a cra
Her weakness
She stared at me, wide eyed and cheeks as red as fresh blood. I swallowed, my throat tightening as my grip on her shoulders hardened. “I…” She tucked her lips in and cast her eyes to the floor. I forced a chuckle. "You still think me a monster.” "Will you protect me after you have recovered?” She asked instead, raising her eyes to look me straight in the eyes.Suddenly she didn't look weak anymore. She looked like she could grab Blair's face and give her a slap or two. "And what if I never recover?” I narrowed my eyes at her, holding back a grunt of pain. "Will you stay forever then?” Her eyes turned fiercer. My eyes turned to slits as I watched her study my face."Mmhm.” I nodded and jerked when I felt my joints stiffened accompanied with needle-like pains in my stomach. "Then I'll stay loyal to you." She responded and looked away, offering her neck to me in what looked like a last offer. Holding her closer to me than necessary, I took a long sniff of her neck and felt her s
Fate
"Mum!" The brat called and hurried past me towards the red faced middle aged woman by the door. “How dare you bump into the first lady? Are you blind?" He yelled at the old lady from earlier. As if that was not enough, he raised his hand and brought it down on her face making her head swing violently to the side. I held back a growl. How dare he hit a servant of the Royals? I found myself moving forward when a hand held me back. “Come with me." Conrad ordered and dragged me out of the sitting room, up the stairs and into another room.“Tessa?" I breathed the moment I saw her bent over Blair's legs buckling her shoes. She pursued her movement but got a knock on the head from Blair."Don't you dare try to ruin my party.” She ordered and I saw Tessa nod quickly. "Look here boy.” Conrad pulled me to face him.I frowned down at him. "You are nothing but a disabled beggar, living off my wealth so you must know your place.” He poked my chest. "After this party, you'll go back there
Serve the guests
"How did you know? Who are you?” I demanded, yanking the annoying wire out of my ears. She straightened and looked me straight in the eye. "The djinn is also with you.” She stated and made a second bow. "You don't need to do anything, I and my girls will take it up from here.” She clapped and ladies dressed in maid uniforms filed in, each bowing their greetings to me as they proceeded to carry out their task."Who are you?” I asked her, walking briskly towards her. She squinted at the plate in her hand before turning to look at me. "I was sent.” Was the only response she gave to my question. 'You need to begin the search for the jaded ring.’ I hissed to shut him up, but he just continued to speak.'You need to do it now while they are all occupied.’ he persisted. I walked out of the kitchen, pretending to hobble as I leaned into my cane. Where should I go from here?” "Hey you, come here." Conrad called me from the corner. I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth. Why couldn'

I slammed the door shut and the main door burst open. “I am not taking my bath in there." “But there is nothing wrong with it." She argued meekly behind me. “I can't fit in there." I held my cane tight. Has she been bathing there all her life? Now I really wish I could snap the necks of those suckers. She sighed and I turned to look at her. Her shoulders had dropped and her head hung low. “I need to hurry back to complete the chores, the engagement party will start in an hour." “What engagement party?" “Blair's engagement party." She peeked up at me. My lips curled in distaste. “I'll find a way to sneak you into the visitor's bathroom but you have to hurry." She said with a sense of urgency. I nodded once at her and watched her pick up the bag and hurry out while I followed after her.In twenty minutes I was done with her standing watch as I changed into one of the nasty old clothes given to me. “Done." I called out from behind her and she turned to observe me before givi
Awake and growing crazy
I have been locked in for two days, in pain and in great thirst. Today I had finally managed to fight off my thirst and sat up a little too weak when I got startled by the voice in my head. 'You did a great job, son.’ My reddened eyes bulged and I looked around. I was sure as hell I didn't imagine that voice. “What are you? Show yourself." I commanded in a cracked voice. ‘Fear not son. It is I, the djinn of your clan. I was sent to help you.’ I watched a smoky substance evaporate from my body before materializing into a shadowy being right in front of me.My jaw tensed at the realization. I know I should bow, but I was too angry to even look him directly in the face. “I did not want to do this.” ‘Aahh! You were led to the right place son. I can perceive that the royal jaded ring was somewhere around here a few years back.’Is he kidding me right now? Did he just say a few years back? I held my peace and watched him. ‘You did a good job.’“Get out." ‘I have…’"Leave. I do
