After thinking for a while, knowing he had nowhere else to go, Manuel quickly dialed the unknown number once more and sighed.

“I’ll save the company… but on my terms.”

The person at the other end of the line answered desperately, “Anything Mr. Manuel.”

“Come pick me up, now. I’ll text you my location,” Manuel hung up.

Manuel looked up at the starry sky and took a deep breath, he suddenly felt the breeze was much fresher and lighter.

He marveled at how quickly and timely his luck got extremely good.

Soon enough, a black BMW 5 series stopped directly in front of Manuel and a man highlighted from the car and walked over to Manuel.

Manuel quickly stood up and frowned slightly. Gavin Shaw bowed curtly, “Mr. Rodriguez…”

Trying to get used to this formality as he had been denied it for quite a long time, Manuel just waved him off and got into the car.

Gavin took his belongings and placed them in the boot.

He got into the driver’s seat and placed the car in motion.

Manuel asked, “So where would you be taking me to?”

“Crystal Sky Hotel sir. You’d be spending at least a week there in the most expensive suite while you work out the dealings of the company with your Uncle, Mr. Don Rodriguez” Gavin responded, his eyes meeting Manuel’s through the mirror.

Manuel got there and was led to his suite with the help of Gavin. He could hear the slight whispers of people as they wondered if he could afford a room there.

“Look at him walking like he can even afford an hour here.”

“He might. He’s obviously got a rich good-looking friend by his side.”

“We’d better keep our mouths shut lest we invite trouble. The man by his side doesn’t look ordinary.”

“Whatever… I feel like that peasant’s polluting the air just by being in it.”

With the help of Gavin’s slightly intimidating presence, they all kept their thoughts to themselves but Manuel was no fool. He obviously noticed the slight change in the atmosphere, the mocking stares from the people present but he just acted oblivious to them all.

Upon getting into his suite, Manuel fell exhaustedly to the bed and sighed with so much satisfaction.

It had been so long he’d tasted such comfort.

Realizing he wasn’t alone in the room, he quickly sat up and faced Gavin, “Inform my uncle that I’d be meeting with him tomorrow evening”

“Oh, and get a set of clean clothes delivered to this suite tomorrow morning along with some underwear,” Manuel said recalling the looks from those people.

“Sure thing, sir. I’d take my leave now,” Gavin responded and left the room.

Manuel lay back on the bed once more, soaking in the pleasure he’d been denied for a long time.

Manuel was both exhausted and exhilarated all the same.

The Golden Bay Villa area, each villa was specifically designed by a renowned designer. All the specific properties of the villa were chosen with great care. It was a place that even the rich could not afford to buy.

At the moment, Manuel, now dressed in an expensive, comfortable joggers, alongside a black top was sitting casually on the sofa in the lounge. Across him was his uncle, Don Rodriguez.

Carefully sizing up the now skinny Manuel, Don smiled and cautiously said, “Dear Manuel, it’s been quite a while. You seem much more energetic for people of your age…”

“Let’s skip the fake pleasantries uncle, now, will you?” Manuel asked calmly without even sparing Don a glance.

Don nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed.

“Gavin relayed your thoughts on the matter to me. Can I know these conditions you speak about?

If it’s something within my capabilities, I will do them.”

Now Manuel was a bit focused and faced his uncle with a gentle smile, “Oh don’t worry uncle, it most definitely is within your capabilities.”

“I’m going to be the CEO of the Enterprises, as my dad requested and not just the CEO, the President.”

“You’d have to sell majority of your shares in the company over to me. I know dad requested I take over his company but even if I do, I’d have lesser say in the company’s affairs and that’s too shabby for me, knowing you’re the one with the highest shares in this company.”

At this point, Don’s face was ashen and was about to refute him when Manuel spoke again…

“Concerning the company’s failure, what’s going on?”

Don had finally regained a bit of color and replied, “My son, your cousin, made some hasty decisions. He injected a lot of money into an oil rig, stating he was following the trend. The results came through and we found out the stock of the oil rig was declining drastically. Soon, our collaborating investors overseas, found out about it and cut of their funding to our company. And now we’re on the brink of bankruptcy, if we don’t act fast, everything your father built would crumble.”

Manuel finally got an idea of what was going on and sneered.

“So how much are we talking about here?”

“Just 2.5 billion dollars,” Don replied with a smile.

Manuel facial expression changed, his eyes twitched dangerously, “2.5 billion?! Why didn’t you inform me I was going to rob a bank in order to save the company?”

Don was already getting annoyed by Manuel’s assertive behavior, “This is just a drop in the ocean in contrast to what you have in your account, Manuel. You can help us without batting an eyelid. Don’t forget you’re a part of this family!”, his face was now twisted. Manuel was being too thrifty.

Manuel looked up at his uncle and smirked dangerously, “Oh, so now I’m a part of the Rodriguez? Well, that’s new… From what I remember, making a less similar mistake to your son’s that even yielded great results led me to be condemned and kicked out from this family. No one even considered that I was once a great contributor, no one. Enjoying all the benefits and money I earned, no one approved of me. Uncle, I turned to you to plead with my father to help him see reasoning but you just glanced away and now not only do you try to cover up your son’s shameless deeds by trying to shamelessly guilt trip me but also trying to assert dominance?!”

Manuel sat up straight and stared intently at Don, “Don, this won’t work on me. I became a live-in son-in-law for some family. I led a very terrible life and now you think reminding me of the family I was denied is just going to make me help you?”

He scoffed, “How naïve.”

Manuel stood up to take his leave, having tested Manuel’s patience to the limit, Don became anxious and said immediately albeit reluctantly, “I agree to all your conditions Manuel. I’m extremely sorry.”

Manuel stopped in his tracks and stared at his uncle.

He knew what type of man his uncle was.

He found out much to his dismay that his uncle was the one who plotted against him, being one of the major shareholders, quite powerful and second to his dad at the time.

Don wasn’t sorry, he knew Don was only giving up all he had to live and reap the benefits of the company because he felt he had nothing to lose.

But Manuel smiled slightly, knowing his path to revenge had just been set straight.

He was going to make sure they all pay.

The board meeting unfolded like every other board meeting. Manuel had slept in the room in his office and so he was able to be in the office earlier than most people. The routine was normal for a board meeting.Manuel stood at the head of the table in silence and began to tap his fingers slightly against the polished wood as he looked distracted and then he stopped. Across the room sat the people he had worked with for a few months and some had even served the company longer than he had been alive yet one of them had hacked their way into his trap but which one?“President Rodriguez?” Director Hayes pushed his glasses up his nose. “The manufacturing reports require your approval.”Manuel glanced at him, snappin

Four years ago…Alistair burst into the hospital room, flowers in one hand and documents in the other. “We’ve going to be okay.”His wife looked up at him and said weakly, “You sound confident.” He laughed shakily, “The merger goes through next week. We’ll have enough and you’ll receive treatment. We’ll travel after this, you’ve always wanted to see Italy, remember?”She frowned slightly and asked, “The merger you told me you were still drafting? But it’s not finished yet.”Alistair was ambitious and didn’t just want to be a board member or a chairman in Rodriguez Enterprises, he also wanted to become a reliable business partner to them. He was working on the merger before his wife fell ill and then he had to abandon it and if the deal fell through, he believed to receive a lot of profit from it. Though it was not yet completed, he was going to mask it up and send it directly to the CEO, who was also known as the shadow broker even though he had never seen him in person despite his po

Past midnight, Rodriguez Enterprises remained unusually quiet. Most of the employees had gone home hours ago and only cleaning staff moved through the deserted corridors.Inside the President’s office, the glow of his computer screen illuminated Manuel’s face and stacks of files lay open across the desk, board attendance records, archived reports, meeting transcripts and old investment summaries. Manuel had the habit of maintaining order but for him to be that messy, it was strange.Gavin sat on the couch adjacent to Manuel and couldn’t help but watch his boss sift through old documents that had been long forgotten. “You’ve been looking through documents from four years ago the entire day. Sir please, you need to rest.”Manuel didn’t answer immediately as his eyes still remained on the screen going through the Project 608, the merger proposal, board discussions and attendance sheet and the same names appeared repeatedly. Gavin stood up and walked closer to Manuel, “What exactly are yo

Three days later, the trap was ready and Brandon personally delivered it. The employees of Rodriguez Enterprises were in awe and fear of Brandon as they watched him head straight in the direction of Manuel’s office. “Brandon looks so cool,” a female employee said in a slightly hushed tone to her friend and her friend replied, “Of course, he would be. Seems like Brandon is close with our boss, this isn’t the first time he’s come here and when he does he always heads in the boss’ office direction.”On hearing that, the female employee squealed, trying to keep her voice under wraps, “Then I should hit the salon and spa more often if Brandon Walker is going to keep showing up here. Who knows, one day he might notice me.”Nudging the female employee, her friend said, “You better snap out of your delusions. We’ve got work to finish, as if someone like him would ever notice insignificant beings like us.”Hours passed as they tested every feature, every folder, every document, every hidden p

The evening rush at the Eastbay Diner was in full swing. Waitresses and waiters moved between tables carrying trays loaded with food and drinks. Laughter mixed with the clinking of glasses while a live band played softly from a small platform near the far corner of the restaurant area.Outside, luxury cars and ordinary sedans filled the parking lot alike. Inside, nobody cared. Eastbay Diner had earned its reputation years ago and it wasn’t just because it was a famous place to dine and wine but also because it didn’t just offer menus to the rich. Rich and average classed, everyone came for the food and also for the owner. Whoever could get on Brandon Walker’s good side and possibly strike a deal with him would be said to have supposedly hit the jackpot. The glass doors opened and a cool breeze swept inside as Manuel Rodriguez stepped into the diner wearing a black coat over a dark shirt. He looked so casual and Gavin followed a few steps behind. Several customers glanced up from whate

And I was also able to find out someone else besides Penelope had a motive for our dinner that day and so I indulged her.”Even though Manuel had proven himself to be worthy of the positions as the President and CEO and was obviously doing well, there were still some people that did not want to accept it but no one had the audacity to voice out especially when he was revealed to be Sir Jeremy’s successor. Unfortunately, they’ve now chosen to resort to extreme measures. The next day, Penelope got to her office very early to avoid the stares and gazes of some people but as soon as she stepped into her office, she saw someone in a black suit with his back to her sitting on her own swivel chair facing the glass wall and looking down at pedestrians down below. She became on high alert and quickly pulled out her phone.“There would be no
