Manuel sat back down to listen to what Don had to say.
“Don’t worry, I’d get everything done nicely. I’d send the documents over to the suite you’re in. All you have to do is just to sign it. I’d instruct to you a new assistant.” Hearing that Manuel’s brows furrowed slightly. “I don’t want a new assistant. Return Gavin back to me. He’d continue to take his place by my side and not your errand’s boy. By the way, I found out that my villa is being managed by your son, relay my well wishes to him but I’d be returning tomorrow. So, I’d be sending Gavin to sanitize my villa thoroughly so he can hand over his duties.” Knowing Don for a relatively long amount of time, Don’s idea of a new assistant was a spy to feed him information on whatever moves Manuel would be making and he wasn’t going to let that happen. This time not only was he stronger, he was far wiser. Besides only Gavin had remained loyal to him. If it weren’t from his father finding out that Gavin sends money to Manuel occasionally, they wouldn’t have been cut off. Gavin was the only person happy to see Manuel return. Seeing him on that sidewalk that night, he saw Gavin quickly wipe a tear and trying to mask his emotions. Don resisted the urge to stomp his feet in annoyance. The current Manuel didn’t want to heed his instructions. He bit his nails in frustration. He was his nephew’s favorite uncle and Manuel always had stars brimming in his eyes whenever he was with Don. Even if he turned his back on him, that shouldn’t be enough for him to lose the admiration for his uncle, right?? He now even called him by his name, how outrageous! But Don seemed to have no idea that Manuel was now well aware of his atrocities and the true face that lied behind the façade he put on. “Sure, I will,” Don replied reluctantly. --- Manuel got Gavin to take him to a restaurant so he could have a meal and then have Gavin brief him on the company’s latest asides the bankruptcy. At that moment, Gavin had a call to make while Manuel just walked inside and sat at a table. A waitress walked up to him and requested what he’d have but just then, Penelope Sullivan and Harry Armstrong who just happened to be having a meal together spotted Manuel and Harry who had heard a lot of things about Manuel wanted to just embarrass him for the fun of it. Penelope wasn’t going to miss out on the fun either so she followed Harry as he walked up to Manuel interrupting the waitress. “Hey there Manuel, I’m Harry, Penelope’s fiancée. I’ve heard quite a lot about you.” Harry said. “Manuel, what are you doing here? I doubt you can afford this and who’s clothes are you wearing?" Penelope chimed in wanting to make a fool of Manuel. The waitress held back a bit, hearing this from a person who obviously knows this man. The waitress gritted her teeth, a pauper had just made her waste her time while she could’ve served others and received generous tips. And just like that, she stormed off. Manuel recognizing his ex-wife and her lover just looked up at them and nodded absent-mindedly. Harry’s expression turned ugly. How dare an ex live-in son-in-law just look at him like he wasn’t worth his time?! “Coming to such a place and dressing all so fancy with your borrowed clothes, oh, don’t tell me you were tracing Penelope? You can’t even afford to buy her roses,” Harry raised his voice a bit louder for other diners to listen in on their conversation. Hearing what Harry said, Penelope smiled satisfyingly. Her mother told her Manuel signed the divorce papers without even batting an eyelid. For someone of his caliber, he was normally supposed to beg and grovel at her doorstep but he didn’t. The nerve of a thief like him. Now she wasn’t going to let this opportunity slide. “Manuel, the past would always remain in the past. Stalking me all the way here to beg me isn’t going to change a thing. I was able to reform another document to get the contract signed and so I can forgive you for stealing the previous document but I certainly can’t get married to you again.” Hearing that, people began to condemn him for being such an unfaithful husband. “That man must be foolish to try and sabotage the woman that’s obviously the bread-winner” “How can he not even be able to afford roses for his wife?” “He must have gotten some kind of offer to become a paid gigolo and decided to ruin his wife before venturing into it.” Manuel Rodriguez stared at the couple and sneered. He looked at his ex-wife more intently and smiled, “Sadly, I’m not here for either of you.” Harry scoffed, “Then who would you be here for? Don’t even tell me you’re here to dine…” “You don’t need to lie Manuel, its fine. You know what, the company I work at is in dire need of a cleaner, I could recommend you and get you a spot.” Harry Armstrong worked in the Rodriguez Enterprises. He enjoyed a privileged status. Manuel didn’t even glance at them, “I don’t need it.” Harry’s expression immediately changed and he appeared cold, “Are you mentally retarded or just plain stupid? Even if you put your kidney up for sale you still wouldn’t be able to afford a meal here. I’m simply offering you a sugar-coated candy free of charge. I work in the Rodriguez Enterprises.” People heard that and gasped. Rodriguez Enterprises was the best company in Colburn. Even to work as a cleaner would be a dream come true. Only a fool would turn down such an offer. Penelope held her chin higher obviously proud of having snagged such a man, latched onto Harry’s arm more possessively. Manuel just smirked at the mention of what Harry said. Just then Gavin walked in with an apologetic look to apologize for keeping him waiting but as soon as he got to Manuel’s side, Manuel gave him a stern look not to say anything and he confusedly complied. “Oh, a friend brought you over, how nice,” Harry sneered. “You’d better watch your spending or this guy over here might just drain you dry.” Harry said to Gavin. Harry didn’t recognize Gavin cause Gavin only ran errands for Don. And working for someone that powerful, only on rare occasions do ordinary employees come across him. Gavin frowned slightly wanting to say something but the couple had already returned to their table. Manuel stood up having already lost his appetite, he instructed Gavin to get him back to the suite stating that he’d have his meal there. Noticing Manuel’s expression, Gavin could tell Penelope was his boss’ evil wife and already guessed Harry to be her lover, he clenched his fists slowly having witnessed how his master was treated in their family. “Sir, are we not going to do anything concerning them?” Gavin asked. “We will, but I’d let them dig their own graves, bit by bit,” Manuel replied with a determined look. Manuel took out his battered phone and called Don. Meanwhile, Gavin made a mental note to get a quality high end phone and deliver it to his master. Don picked up, Manuel didn’t give him a chance to speak, “Fire Harry Armstrong, an employee there.” Manuel cut the call. On the other side, Don flaring his nostrils slammed his fists on the table. He hadn’t even taken the reigns of the company and he’s already firing employees. He had no choice but to keep his opinions to himself and do as he was told. Manuel finally decided to get some rest as Gavin left. He closed his eyes, smiling satisfyingly of what the future was bringing him.Latest Chapter

The board meeting unfolded like every other board meeting. Manuel had slept in the room in his office and so he was able to be in the office earlier than most people. Now, the board members were slowly beginning to get used to Manuel and some of them had even began to talk freely. One director complained about rise logistics cost, another suggested delaying the european partnership and someone else proposed increasing the advertising budget. The routine was normal for a board meeting.Manuel stood at the head of the table in silence and began to tap his fingers slightly against the polished wood as he looked distracted and then he stopped. Across the room sat the people he had worked with for a few months and some had even served the company longer than he had been alive yet one of them had hacked their way into his trap but which one?“President Rodriguez?” Director Hayes pushed his glasses up his nose. “The manufacturing reports require your approval.”Manuel glanced at him, snappin

Four years ago…Alistair burst into the hospital room, flowers in one hand and documents in the other. “We’ve going to be okay.”His wife looked up at him and said weakly, “You sound confident.” He laughed shakily, “The merger goes through next week. We’ll have enough and you’ll receive treatment. We’ll travel after this, you’ve always wanted to see Italy, remember?”She frowned slightly and asked, “The merger you told me you were still drafting? But it’s not finished yet.”Alistair was ambitious and didn’t just want to be a board member or a chairman in Rodriguez Enterprises, he also wanted to become a reliable business partner to them. He was working on the merger before his wife fell ill and then he had to abandon it and if the deal fell through, he believed to receive a lot of profit from it. Though it was not yet completed, he was going to mask it up and send it directly to the CEO, who was also known as the shadow broker even though he had never seen him in person despite his po

Past midnight, Rodriguez Enterprises remained unusually quiet. Most of the employees had gone home hours ago and only cleaning staff moved through the deserted corridors.Inside the President’s office, the glow of his computer screen illuminated Manuel’s face and stacks of files lay open across the desk, board attendance records, archived reports, meeting transcripts and old investment summaries. Manuel had the habit of maintaining order but for him to be that messy, it was strange.Gavin sat on the couch adjacent to Manuel and couldn’t help but watch his boss sift through old documents that had been long forgotten. “You’ve been looking through documents from four years ago the entire day. Sir please, you need to rest.”Manuel didn’t answer immediately as his eyes still remained on the screen going through the Project 608, the merger proposal, board discussions and attendance sheet and the same names appeared repeatedly. Gavin stood up and walked closer to Manuel, “What exactly are yo

Three days later, the trap was ready and Brandon personally delivered it. The employees of Rodriguez Enterprises were in awe and fear of Brandon as they watched him head straight in the direction of Manuel’s office. “Brandon looks so cool,” a female employee said in a slightly hushed tone to her friend and her friend replied, “Of course, he would be. Seems like Brandon is close with our boss, this isn’t the first time he’s come here and when he does he always heads in the boss’ office direction.”On hearing that, the female employee squealed, trying to keep her voice under wraps, “Then I should hit the salon and spa more often if Brandon Walker is going to keep showing up here. Who knows, one day he might notice me.”Nudging the female employee, her friend said, “You better snap out of your delusions. We’ve got work to finish, as if someone like him would ever notice insignificant beings like us.”Hours passed as they tested every feature, every folder, every document, every hidden p

The evening rush at the Eastbay Diner was in full swing. Waitresses and waiters moved between tables carrying trays loaded with food and drinks. Laughter mixed with the clinking of glasses while a live band played softly from a small platform near the far corner of the restaurant area.Outside, luxury cars and ordinary sedans filled the parking lot alike. Inside, nobody cared. Eastbay Diner had earned its reputation years ago and it wasn’t just because it was a famous place to dine and wine but also because it didn’t just offer menus to the rich. Rich and average classed, everyone came for the food and also for the owner. Whoever could get on Brandon Walker’s good side and possibly strike a deal with him would be said to have supposedly hit the jackpot. The glass doors opened and a cool breeze swept inside as Manuel Rodriguez stepped into the diner wearing a black coat over a dark shirt. He looked so casual and Gavin followed a few steps behind. Several customers glanced up from whate

“My firewall showed attempted penetration. It wasn’t noticeable but because I had Brandon get someone to strengthen my firewall with a detector, I noticed. And I was also able to find out someone else besides Penelope had a motive for our dinner that day and so I indulged her.”Even though Manuel had proven himself to be worthy of the positions as the President and CEO and was obviously doing well, there were still some people that did not want to accept it but no one had the audacity to voice out especially when he was revealed to be Sir Jeremy’s successor. Unfortunately, they’ve now chosen to resort to extreme measures. The next day, Penelope got to her office very early to avoid the stares and gazes of some people but as soon as she stepped into her office, she saw someone in a black suit with his back to her sitting on her own swivel chair facing the glass wall and looking down at pedestrians down below. She became on high alert and quickly pulled out her phone.“There would be no
