The basement of the royal library smelled of vinegar, rotting sheepskin, and the bitter grease of cheap tallow candles. Xiao Chen did not look up when the heavy oak door grated against the floorboards. He remained hunched over a three-hundred-year-old celestial map, his ink-stained fingers twitching as he recalculated the alignment of the dead stars.

"You are dripping blood on my floorboards, Emperor," Xiao Chen said, his voice like dry autumn leaves scraping along a wall. "The high-tier Earth energy you stole from the Old Wolf is leaking out of your pores. It is highly offensive to my herbs."

Lin Feng closed the door behind him, the iron latch clicking into place. He pulled back the collar of his tunic, revealing the dark violet ring that had burned itself into his skin. The mark looked like a twisted rope, slightly puckered at the edges as if it were actively sinking into his throat. "I don't have time for your sensibilities, scholar. Look at the frequency. It tightened three millimeters after the battle ended."

Xiao Chen finally dropped his charcoal stick. He squinted through his brass spectacles, leaning so close to Lin Feng’s neck that his greasy topknot brushed the prince's chin. He reached out with a silver-tipped probe, tapping the edge of the violet brand. A sharp, clear note, like a struck crystal glass, echoed through the damp room.

" Fascinating," Xiao Chen muttered, turning back to his desk to flip through a stack of loose parchment. "The system isn't just measuring your internal Qi volume anymore. It has anchored itself to your nervous system. It is waiting for a trigger."

"What kind of trigger?" Lin Feng asked, sitting heavily on a stack of unBound encyclopedias. The paper groaned under his newly increased physical weight. "The countdown has seven years left. Why is the noose tightening now?"

"Because you are growing too fast," Xiao Chen said, throwing a handful of dried salt into a bronze brazier to clear the sulfur smell from the room. "The prophecy is an equation, you absolute fool. You think you are a hero conquering empires, but to the entities who built this lattice, you are simply a pig growing fat enough for the festive knife. Every time you absorb a king’s cultivation, you speed up the maturation process."

Lin Feng rubbed his eyes, his knuckles catching on the crust of dried mud from the western flats. "If I stop cultivating, the neighboring sects will overrun the capital by winter. If I continue, I speed up my own execution. Give me a solution, Chen. I didn't pull you out of the imperial dungeon just so you could call me a pig."

"The solution requires a variable we don't possess," Xiao Chen said, his voice dropping as he dragged a heavy, iron-bound volume from the bottom shelf. The cover was wrapped in dried skin that didn't belong to any animal found in the central plains. "I have been translating the third layer of the star map you described. The cosmic array requires a specific resonant frequency to open the world-shield during your death. It isn't just about the second or the hour. It is about the emotional state of the executioner."

Lin Feng frowned, his hand dropping from his neck. "My vanguard general is loyal. Zhang Wei will take my head if I command it. He will hate every second of it, but his hand won't shake."

"Zhang Wei won't work," Xiao Chen said, his fingers flying through the pages, leaving black smudges on the ancient text. "The array won't accept a soldier's obedience. Obedience is cold. It lacks the necessary spiritual friction."

"Then I will hire an assassin from the southern marshes," Lin Feng said, his voice turning sharp with irritation. "Give them ten thousand spirit stones to drive a needle through my temple at the exact stroke of midnight."

"An assassin is even worse," Xiao Chen hissed, finally slamming his palm down on the page. The candles flickered, nearly dying out in the draft. "An assassin feels nothing but greed or professional pride. The array requires a violent disruption of the natural soul-bonds. It requires a specific type of agony to shatter your god-realm core and turn it into the shield."

Lin Feng stood up, his white fire core flaring slightly, causing the ink pots on the desk to rattle against each other. "Speak clearly, scholar. The numbers in my head are already moving."

Xiao Chen looked up from his ancient scrolls with a pale face, his fingers trembling so hard he had to tuck them into his wide sleeves. "The text is explicit, Lin Feng. The person holding the blade cannot be an enemy, and they cannot be a servant following orders. To trigger the celestial rupture and save the realm, you must be killed by someone who loves you completely."

  • The unifying crown

The marble flags of the Southern Summit were slippery with stale grease and spilled wine. Across the carved stone table, King Han of the Sunken Marshes slammed his jeweled goblet down, sending dark liquor splashing over his embroidered silk sleeves."You expect me to surrender six generations of sovereignty because you had a vision, boy?" Han spat, his jowls quivering as he pointed a trembling, ringed finger at the central map. "My marsh-riders have held these rivers against every emperor who tried to cross them. We do not kneel to a mad tyrant from the northern plains."Lin Feng sat at the head of the table, his fingers lightly tapping against his knee. The violet ring on his neck was no longer just a mark; it throbbed with a dark, metallic sheen, bulging against his jawline. His face was gaunt, the skin stretched so tight over his cheekbones that he looked like a wooden mask."I am not asking for your sovereignty, King Han," Lin Feng said, his voice quiet, carrying a dry, scraping r

  • The Alliance Fractured

The mid-autumn rain hammered against the high arched windows of the imperial map room, turning the courtyard below into a gray swamp. Lin Feng sat alone at the long cedar table, his fingers tracing the architectural sketches of an obsidian pyramid that would stand eighty feet above the capital’s highest terrace. The heavy oak doors didn't just open; they hit the stone wall with a crash that shattered the brass latch. General Zhang Wei stood in the threshold, his leather cloak soaked through, his breath coming in jagged, furious snorts. In his left hand, he clutched a crumpled roll of architectural vellum, the seal of the imperial builder torn in half."Tell me this is a mistake, Lin Feng," Zhang Wei said, his voice dangerously low, stripped of his usual military formality. He marched toward the table, throwing the wet blueprints directly onto the emperor’s personal maps. "Tell me you didn't just order forty thousand laborers to stop reinforcing the southern trenches so they could pile

  • The loophole blue print

The taste of copper and cold grease lingered in Lin Feng’s throat as his eyes snapped open. He was back in the palace library basement, his fingers digging into the edge of the wooden table so hard the grain groaned under his grip. Across the room, Xiao Chen dropped a handful of dried tallow into a lantern, the small wick sputtering into a sickly yellow flame."You were gone for forty minutes, Emperor," Xiao Chen said, his breath rattling in his narrow chest. He wiped his ink-stained palms on his apron, staring at Lin Feng’s neck. "The violet ring did not shrink, but it changed. The color is wrong. It looks like an old bruise that has gone deep into the muscle.""They have done this seventy-four thousand times," Lin Feng said, his voice flat, stripped of its usual frantic energy. He stood up, his legs steady despite the residual numbness in his meridians. "I saw the spheres, Chen. I saw the altars. Every single world had a king who thought he was a savior, running himself ragged to bu

  • The first shot cut

The quiet inside the underground meditation chamber was heavy, broken only by the rhythmic click of Xiao Chen’s abacus. Lin Feng sat cross-legged on a block of unmelting frost-stone, his bare torso glistening with a strange, oily sweat. In his right hand, he held a fragment of the primeval fire spirit, its core glowing with a restless white heat. In his left hand, he held a crystal vial containing the liquefied essence of the Northern Peak’s ancestral ice spring."You are going to blow yourself into a smear on the wall, Emperor," Xiao Chen said, not looking up from his calculations. "The mathematical probability of your survival is less than four percent. Fire and ice are not brothers. They are butchers.""The countdown does not care about your percentages, Chen," Lin Feng said, his teeth gritting as the violet ring on his neck throbbed against his throat. "The northern clans are subdued, but the southern marshes are already mobilizing. I need to reach the sixth tier of the God Realm

  • Northern Conquest

The wind screaming down the Jade Dragon Pass carried the scent of pine and frozen blood. Lin Feng stood at the vanguard. His boots sank into thigh deep snow. His breath did not mist in the freezing air. The white fire core burning in his chest kept his flesh hot enough to melt the flakes before they touched his skin."The outer arrays are cracked," Zhang Wei shouted over the howling gale. He pointed his heavy iron gauntlet at the massive ice gates of the Azure Frost Sect. "We have them boxed in the upper valley. Give the order, Emperor. We can shatter the main gate and be drinking their winter wine by nightfall.""No slaughter," Lin Feng said. He kept his eyes locked on the faint blue glow pulsing behind the ice walls. "We are here to conquer. I need their cultivation resources intact. I need their people alive.""They are cultivators of the Frost Path," Zhang Wei argued. His thick beard was crusted with heavy ice. "They do not surrender to fire. If we breach those walls slowly, they
